The maximum open play players is 36 players and you do not need to a membership to play. I called in ahead of time to get my name on the list but it was not required as there were only 18 people on the list at the time I called (1 hour before the open play began). They accept cash or credit card. The courts are well paved and the outside balls have a nice bounce to them. The courts are well spaced apart so there aren't too many instances of other people's balls rolling into the court. The lights were great as they do not blind you when playing due to the fact that the lights are facing upward instead of downward. There were 6 courts (rolling nets) and there were around 25-30 people in attendance so there was not too long ago a wait between games. I was able to play 5 games in the 1.5 hour open play session. There is pretty good intermediate group of players (with a few advanced competition - the pro working there is a 5.3 DUPR) here so that is a plus for more experienced pickleball players. The only complaint is that the pickleball kitchen line is a bit hard to differentiate from the tennis service line. My only wish was that the open play hours was an hour longer but getting to play 5 games in 1.5 hours isn't bad. I would rate this place 4.5/5 due to the pickleball kitchen line issue but I will round up to 5 stars. Will definitely come back!

CUTE park. As in,…read morecute little playground equipment with rabbits on giant springs, "toy" cowboys who hold up monkey bars, tall slides (medium tall by 60s/70s standards), wooden playground equipment. The only things missing were the tall slide, merry-go-rounds, and a jungle gym. However, the old (and now, kitschy), well made and maintained pieces make this one of my favorite parks in Houston. Also, its a piece of old Houston; it was established in 1926. This Rice University area park has a neighborhood organization that takes excellent care of the area. To the tune of $10,000 per year. As well they should, it's one of the last bastions of built-to-last playgrounds. Steel and wood and charm, no plastic. Who doesn't remember climbing on the pumpkin stagecoach at Pumpkin Park? Fleming Park is meant to be charming and unforgettable. If playground equipment isn't your thing, there are plenty of picnic tables, oak trees, and general relaxation areas. A perfect pocket picnic park. There's also a couple of tennis courts, two B-ball hoops, and a baseball diamond. There is no sign for the park, only a list of park rules and a community board. If you're uncertain that you are at the correct park, look for a 15' Totem Pole Bird House that was erected in 1991 by Fletcher Mackey. It is constructed of Cypress and Cedar Wood, ceramic, copper, and painted steel. One item of sadness, some idiot(s) stole the lamb spring ride back in January. There are signs on the community board with a photo and plea for its return. Rather, I should say "her." She was named "Mary the Lamb." Again, she's very, very cute, has a snow white fleece, and a giant metal spring attached to her underside.

There is also a large grassy area for toddlers to run around (ours loves to run on the grass). Lots of beautiful live oaks. Had no issue finding parking on the adjacent street. The only issue -- there was a lot of small broken glass pieces by one of the trees. I'm assuming this was an anomaly but definitely not what you want to see at a children's park.

Came to pick up a family friend from camp with my own newborn and toddler in tow. After waiting in the carpool line I pulled up and proceeded to load them In. A young lady told me I can't stop but to just be quick so I continued. I'm not sure how you safely put kids in the car without stopping, so i didn't realize this was problematic. The next lady that approached me was extremely rude yelling at me that I can't do this and she's going to report it. I let them know I don't the system, but if they tell me a better option I would be happy to do it. There was no reason to be that rude. Politely offering a more appropriate solution would've been sufficient. Instead this lady was aggressive with me as I was juggling two toddlers and a newborn in the Texas summer heat. The last thing I wanted to do was slow down the line, but being nasty about it when the first young lady told me it was ok feels like her anger was misplaced. Unacceptable.

The workers are always friendly, and the gym has a lot of options to be active: basketball courts, tennis courts, swimming pool, cardio area (stationary bikes, row machines, stair masters, treadmills, elliptical, etc), weight machines, free weights, stretching mat as well as rack, and a group fitness studio that doubles as an area for stretching and floor exercises. There's a locker room with showers too. The hours are still okay-- open early on the weekdays at 5:30 AM and 8 AM on Saturdays but not until 10 AM on Sundays. They close at 10 PM on weekdays and 8 PM (the bummer!) on weekends. A few things to note: - open to anyone who works (or trains/studies) in the med center, just bring your badge - the pool is heated (great for winter, but you don't have that ice cold refreshing pool to jump into in the summer!). No lifeguard, but there's a super shallow end and the majority of the lanes are 4' 7" or so deep. - bring your own lock for the lockers (they have free daily use or you can rent for longer term with a fee) - they close for holidays during the year and for a week or so in November and in December the winter holidays This place is still my respite and place to go to blow off some steam or stay fit-- I like how I can swim, run, and do weights conveniently in one visit if I wanted to. Will continue going here to workout!
