Food is amazing. Very clean organized store. Owners are very personable. It was delightful. We drive 4 hrs after watching on YouTube.

Wonderful overall general store. Do you forget to check upstairs, the quilts are amazing!! Just down the sidewalk is an incredible leather shop. Check out their wonderful handmade leather handbags. I use mine every day and have been able to gift bags to several friends. They have belts, wallets, gun holsters, saddles and collars for dogs and all other types of leather goods. A must place for a laid back visit and simple food made with care and attention. The store is full of homemade entrees. I had a coconut cream fried pie and it was delicious. We also ordered sandwiches from the grill. The meats are always fresh, along with choices of bread and delicious fixins. The grocery is filled with all types of home grown and prepared specialties. By all means eat your treat on the front porch in the rocking chairs. Take your time and enjoy the laid back beautiful scenery. A Mennonite treasure! read more

What a fun visit this was for us. We enjoyed walking through the shops in Muddy Pond. There were many interesting items on the shelves. Much of the items for sale weren't made locally but were from other Amish and Mennonite settlements in other states. The packaging and the products were interesting to look at. This was definitely worth a trip to. We didn't find the people in the stores at all rude as indicated in a previous post. They were friendly and business-like. This was a fun visit. read more

If you've never been to a Mennonite grocery store, then you're totally missing out. I've been to a few, and Muddy Pond ranks up there as one of the best. They have gobs and gobs of spices, seasoning, canned (in jars), and other cooking/baking goods. I can look through spices and seasonings for hours, so I was in heaven! The store is very busy, as I'm sure it's reputation precedes it. However, the check out line run by a young woman in the community ran fast and friendly. Be sure to head upstairs to see crafts like quilts, rocking chairs, baskets and various sewn products. Also, there's a couple of friendly dogs who roam the parking lot who are worth visiting, as well. Surprisingly, they take debit/credit cards! The only thing that would make this place better is if they had homemade baked goods. All I saw were fried pies. read more

I'm always up to visit the Mennonites. I think they do an awesome of living off the land. Today we stopped at the Leather Shop to get some belts. They make sure it's sized around you correctly and then they punch the holes in. My dad got a case for his cell phone. Both purchases were great for the price and completely satisfied. Landmark of Muddy Pond. Baking goods and supplies, cheeses, meats, household supplies bulk foods, Amish crafts and furniture, quilts and handmade pottery and being in the midst of the ever humble, simple Mennonite community are just a handful of reasons to visit this area. If you can get to Monterey, you can find the way to the General Store. This is a great place to take a family trip for a couple of hours or to take visitors to the country and inside rural Tennessee. read more

Disappointed to find that this is just your average general store selling cheap products at a markup, rather than the homemade / handmade goods from the local Muddy Pond Mennonite community members. Not worth the trek we made for the visit. read more

Had heard of Muddy Pond for years. Finally got to stop by on the way back from a riding trip to Big South Fork in October. Plenty of room to park a couple of horse trailers. Great shopping in the leather shops and thoroughly enjoyed the general store. The cream filled pumpkin roll I bought at the sidewalk bakery sale was to die for. read more

This is the larger store in Muddy Pond. It has lots of great 'amish' type products. Be sure and try the free samples of cheese at the little deli counter... the GREEN ONION cheese is Fabsolutely Fantastic! But don't miss the much smaller and friendlier store down the road, at a house across the street from the sorghum mill. It's run by the Guenther family, and they are wonderful people. Old Ms. Guenther makes the best sourdough bread in the area! read more

I love this store. I went there as a kid when I grew up in Crawford. I was pleasantly surprised to go there after all these years of living up north, and find that the quality of the merchandise has withstood the test of time. The quilts and furniture are beautiful and made to last. I have never had better candy than from the Muddy Pond General Store. That's saying alot, since I've traveled quite a bit. read more

For those of you who want to go to Muddy Pond you must understand that they are not people who live in the big cities. Mennonite communities are a place of their own, a culture of their own and a life style different from others. I go down at least 2 or 3 times a year. They are nice people but will not get into a conversation with the general public as this is not their way. I will ask that before you set judgment as to their actions, take the time to understand them. Go to Lancaster Co Pa and visit the Amish and you will find Muddy Pond very gentle. We have made friends and enjoy the Amish as well. read more

Went to Muddy Pond two years ago, with great experience. This one entirely different. Workers rude, most items no longer hand made. Worse part was the Grocery store, where we ordered a hamburger($6.25 for frozen, George Foreman grilled, burger). After 45 minute wait, decided to move on, as it was obvious the cook was overwhelmed. We politely asked for our money back and was met with rudeness. The "cook" said he could only give us our cost for the burgers but not our tax back. We remained calm, and accepted the partial refund rather than make a scene. It made us wonder if the "Mennonites" have left the area or if stealing and being rude is accepted in their religion. Do not recommend this area, unless you want to overpay for items you can get in a local Walmart. What a shame, used to be a nice, unique experience. On a positive note, the sorghum is still made at the mill, but has become a pricey item as well. read more
