There are a lot of shops (even 'shoppes') that sell ceramics in the Appalachians, from Main Street storefront to roadside shack. Driving along S. 276 from Brevard to Cedar Mtn, NC, you will see signs for Mud Dabbers Pottery (MDP). STOP. It's worth it! There are many ceramics shops, shacks, trailers and huts along this stretch of road, but don't pass up MDP. We stopped on a whim and were delighted to see a wide assortment of pottery by a dozen or so local potters and be greeted by one of the friendly potters working the register that day. All work is arranged by color and there is literally something for everyone. We noticed a number of potters that are represented by shops in Brevard and elsewhere, but MDP is such a cool historic building situated on a creek that young and old will enjoy themselves. Prices are very reasonable and there's even a "Tired and Flawed" section out back with discounted items (though you'll be hard pressed to find what makes them tired or flawed). read more
