I'm not supposed to review Local Color because I sold jewelry there, but I'm going to anyway because a lady from Raleigh gave Paul a bad review. If she reads this, and the other glowing reviews from people who have known him longer than 5 minutes, I hope she will realize it wasn't his fault. A while back I had a run-in with a shop owner (not Brevard) and posted my version of what happened on FaceBook because I was pretty steamed. His "faithful" started to pile on me all kinds of abuse and posted things that weren't true at all! Paul's supporters take the high ground and don't blast the lady for having an opinion, even a misinformed one. That's the way people should treat each other, IMHO. People get mad and lash out at anyone in the way. That's just life. Hope everybody's over it now. read more

Local Color is a Brevard staple! This shop is beautiful and ever changing as they feature unique, one-of-a-kind pieces by local artists. Before moving to Brevard, we stopped in and met Paul, the shop owner. After the move, we stopped in again and he remembered us. As a welcome to the town, he gave us free soap. Since then, we always make it a point to say hello. He takes pride in his business and treats everyone so great. He always welcomes customers with a genuine smile and takes his time to make conversation and make all feel welcome. He is one of the business owners who stays open later than most and is also sure to support any and all events and local artists in the Brevard area. Local color is a wonderful shop with a wonderful atmosphere. I met the owner, Paul, when I walked in there the first time, and left with a friend. Paul is as kind a person as anyone could ever hope to meet, and does a lot for his town, his friends, and anyone in need. If someone has a problem with him, it says more about that person than it does him... Try local color for gifts. I love the unique jewelry you can find there, and I have found great items such as fan-pulls, pictures, cute and quirky clothes, and tons more. Don't let one bad egg sway you... Local Color was one of the first little shops I stopped into when I first moved to the area over a year ago & while I don't get to drop in as often nowadays as I'd like (new homeowner here with bills out the ya-zoo), LC is one of my first recommendations to anyone who asks "where to go" when visiting downtown Brevard. My fiancé & I met Paul a few months ago (outside of LC) and I didn't realize he was the owner until after we parted ways, but it makes so much sense! LC is incredibly warm & welcoming, as was Paul. Local Color epitomizes what Brevard is all about! Not only does it support and honor Local artists the owner Paul Hawkins is one of the kindest folks around. When you go into the shop he always greets you with a huge smile and a big hug. Sometimes when we are feeling down we go in just to get some good love from Paul. The store itself is beautiful. My very first time in Brevard was about 5 years ago. Local Color was among the very first stops. I and my friends commented on how welcoming and friendly Paul was - and we LOVED his shop! I returned to the area twice a year for the next few years and in 2018, I moved to the Brevard area. Any time I hit the shops in Brevard, Local Color is the first. Local Color is a great shop. Paul is super nice and helpful. I always feel like I am in a friends home when I visit the store. My house and office are partially decorated from treats that I have bought there. I have bought my wife and kids many gifts there as well. Paul and I have become friends over the years.
