On our recent trip to London, four of us went to the Steak Restaurant, on the recommendation of…read moresomeone recently relocated from California. I mention this because we have some amazing steak restaurants in SoCal. The restaurant had several families dining, and had a nice level of background chatter. Our chef took the time to come speak with us, recommend cuts of beef and generally go over our options. This was a lovely surprise as this rarely happens. We started with "fall off the bone" ribs and the Hallumi - (squeaky cheese - wish I could find this here in SoCal... if anyone reading this knows a place... please let me know!) We ordered rib eye steaks, I had the filet... with sides of creamed spinach/truffle fries and Mac and cheese. Everything was cooked to our liking, and the chef came back out to check on us. We actually ended up going back again just because the food and service were great. Look forward to visiting again! (Oooh... if you go, ask for their salts.. I liked the Merlot infused one)

I had a few appetizers (calamari, scallops, cheddar mushrooms, and bone marrow. It was the first time I've tried calamari, scallops, and bone marrow. The calamari was tasty, the scallops wasn't my thing, the cheddar mushrooms were very tasty, and the bone marrow was amazing. The waitress staff (Nicole) was excellent with fast service. Highly recommend.

The steak was good, and the waitress was lovely. Although my…read moresteak wasn't cooked to my liking, it was tasty and all that, but not as I asked for it. A random chunk of lettuce in a wooden bowl with some sauce on it - they do this at all miller and carters and I have no idea why, it's not tasty and looks just like someone can't be bothered to cut the lettuce up properly. The starter of sticky chipotle chicken was a chewy meh experience and just not all that at all. The hubby did really like his steak though. The 2 ladies that had been our servers were lovely, reallly polite and smiley. Did a really good job and suggested the wine... The decor was quite past its sell by date and there were issues all over the place with it. Torn, marked, scuffed and ripped. If this was priced lower then it would be perfectly acceptable, however, it ends up coming to the same cost as an expensive steak restaurant and the ambience only of that if a high street pub. I'm not anti the place and will give another M & C a chance but won't be breaking my back to go back.....

The average meal per person here including a cocktail, starter, mains + service charges can go anywhere between £40 - £80 (depending if you get the steak or not). It's not the cheapest place to have steaks. I've had better steaks else where, but I do enjoy the service and the restaurant as a whole. Today I am having the 200g Cheese Burger - £13.50, comes with chips. They forgot to ask how I wanted my beef cooked, so it came well done. They do serve decent food, I wouldn't say it's mind blowing but it's neither bad. Not much to complain about. I would bring friends and family, they have a huge dining area. Its kids friendly and they also serve a halal menu. There's also 5pm - 9pm happy hours on selected cocktails, but it's only available on the bottom floor/ bar area.

From this point on things went downhill VERY SLOWLY (I say slowly as that is how the rest of our order was brought out). We sat there for about 40 minutes after the starter tray was removed. During this time, another party of 5 people came in and sat right behind us, ordered, had their entire meal brought out, and our order was still not brought out. Mind you, we did not order anything special. The the manager walked by and asked me "Is everything ok?" I said NO our food was not there and our drink cups were both empty. I asked for a refill on my wife's Coke and my Water, he did have the drinks refilled and had the chops to actually ring out the refill on the coke BEFORE refilling the drink. He did nothing else to check on the other issues or even offer to see what the problem was. Our original server was totally missing in action. One other server cleared the starter plate and then another brought the meal when it finally came. Just terrible service! Near the end, our original server came back and brought the bill. I paid via my Amex and she asked if I wanted to add a tip. I said "No, not this time", to which she responded "I did kind of leave you stranded for a while". Mind you, I don't like not tipping. I know they make their living from the tips, but when the service was this terrible, I just could not bring myself to tip. This is the first time in my life I did not tip a server, so that should tell you how bad the service and management staff was. Then if all this was not enough, on my Amex I was billed twice for the meal. I would tell anyone that is looking for someplace in Westfield to eat, do NOT eat at The Meat Co.
