I've found my barber.
This joint has been here for about a year, and I just discovered it because I didn't want to travel southward through the construction to my regular place. Better late than never.
Al cut my hair, and he is meticulous ... takes his time. Plus, he's a nice guy. Though I cannot vouch for the skills of the owner and the other person cutting hair during my visit, I can say that their customers seemed pleased.
Here's what you need to know about barbers: They go through more school than a typical hair-cutter/stylist. In fact, barbers are allowed to use straight razors, whereas others are not. Your typical barbershop won't have Duran Duran blasting loudly with posters of Justin Beiber-style models donning the walls. Nope. Rather, a good barbershop offers a hell of a haircut with not much conversation (except among the folks who are waiting). It's a legitimate experience.
Mt. Zion offers all of this.
It's a shame they are slightly hidden (just look for the "Barber" sign in the same strip mall as Spec's). This is a cash-only business, and there is an ATM in the place in case you don't carry cash. -- They won't try to sell you products upon completion of your haircut. But they will definitely thank you for your business and wish you well.
An excellent experience indeed. read more
