He was supposed to be here Thursday morning at 9. He texted me and said he got a late start and got here around 10. It was extremely hot that day so my husband told him that he could leave and just come back early the next morning when it's not so hot out. He was supposed to be here at 7am but didn't show up until after 8am. He asked me if my husband or I could rent a tiller. We gave him $70 cash for the rental on top of the money the night before. At 9:23am he texted me and said he had to go get gas for the tiller and he had a doctor's appointment to go to and he would be back when he was done. I texted him at 12:35pm to let him know I had to run out and do a few errands. He texted me back at 1:07pm and said he just got out of the doctor's appointment. He said he would be back in the evening when it was cooler. I asked him what time and he said 7pm. He never showed up. I texted him at 8:25. He texted me that his wife had the car and he was waiting for her to get back and that he would be back in the morning at 7:30-8 am. Saturday is at 8:05 am I got a text from him saying that he had a flat tire and he would be over once he got it fixed. When I asked him what time he said he couldn't get a tire until 2pm so he would be there Saturday evening. At 7:30 Saturday evening I texted him to ask him what's going on and he said he had a family emergency and he was at the hospital with his son. I totally understand family emergencies so I waited to hear back from him. I didn't hear back so at 7:30 Sunday morning I texted him to ask him if he was going to get here and finish the job and his wife texted me back. She said he would be here to finish the job. I waited all day Sunday for him to contact me and he never did. No phone calls. Nothing. I texted him on Monday morning and told him that I wanted a refund for the job because he didn't get it done. To which he responded that there will be no refund. I will not ever use this company again and I will make sure I let people know what kind of business he's running. Anyone with a job would have been fired for a no call/no show. He didn't have the proper equipment for the job and there was minimal communication except when I texted him first. I'm filing a complaint with the BBB and Madison county. I informed him of this and his response was it's a waste of time. A reputable company would have asked what they could do to rectify the situation but he didn't care.

I found Joe's business on Yelp and Joe was very responsive when I was in need of someone to quickly mow. I was pleased with his response time and the pictures he provided indicated that the work was good and complete. I scheduled a second mow, he sent pictures, and I paid. And a third. The problem is that I was away from town and when I returned, a couple of days after paying for the completed the third mow, the grass was very high. It was obvious that the third mow had definitely NOT happened. My neighbor had mowed at least once in between (in order not to draw attention to the empty house), leaving me to wonder if the second mow had happened. All three times I received pictures "proving" that the mows had happened. While the first mow is undisputed, I can't know when any of the subsequently shared pictures were taken. I contacted Joe immediately upon my return and discovery (it was a Sunday) and he was very apologetic. He said it was an employee who lied to him and Joe promised to mow later that day or first thing the next (Monday). He did not. On Monday he responded to my text and promised that he would be out on Tuesday, add in a weed treatment and reduce the price on subsequent mows; all of which sounds great except that he didn't show and didn't respond to my text. On Wednesday morning I asked for a refund and was told that he was just waking up but would be there in "a couple of hours". He was again a no show. Then I posted a negative review on Yelp. Joe immediately responded (to me directly), disputing my review, and sharing a story for his whereabouts. And he finally did show up to mow the lawn. In fairness there was rain on Monday and Tuesday, there were also clear windows in which to mow each of the days. He told me that I was his "first job" each of the days. He said it was his employee that had lied about doing the job (and not), but that doesn't explain his lack of follow up. Nor does any of it explain sending "pictures" that clearly were taken at other times. Bottom line: He took my money and did not provide the service until after I posted a negative review. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE unless you have a way to verify the work.
