Honestly the therapy was work for me but both Priyanka and Lucia were extremely encouraging and their guidance and professionalism helped me do the therapy even when what I wanted was to simply lie in bed. Once released i went to the shore rd center because its closer than 60th for sp[eech, ot and pt. My occupational therapist Romana is as intelligent and knowledgeable as it gets. She knows how to multiply herself when there are more than one patient as well. Her interns are well selected and experienced before coming. I couldnt ask for better people handling my recovery. She did her best to accomodate me with tools, info, props notes for work.. you name it. My physical therapist Lauren is also a godsend. We clicked right away. So professional yet cool. She has her doctrine, whats better? She does pt and helps out patients with other touchy sensitive problems. Evetyone there couldnt be nicer, they all interract great and give advice and wish you a nice night etc. Front desk :steven and jeanette are the best with planning appointments that fit YOU. we appreciate everyone so much, when we make cake at home, they get half of it. After goin since july 2011. I have upgraded 2 canes, walked up and down stairs, treadmill, moved my arm and hand which i thought was never possible, and overall self improved mentally with their guidance. Im back to work now and doing things like walk on a beach in puerto rico(this november) and swim in a pool. couldnt thank them enough. I don't recommend Rusk Rehabilitation to any SCI patients since they try to wrap everything up…read morewithin 30 minutes, so they can rush in another patient. As for PT, I only got to use a standing frame once because a patient before me was always using it. They're also not equipped with a functional electrical stimulation (FES) bike. Patients would greatly benefit from it. As for OT, it would be great if they can utilize an electrical stimulation (e-stim), but, of course, they wouldn't invest on it. All I can say is to go somewhere else.

There were many 1.5-2 hr gaps between finger sticks and insulin administration which placed my dad at risk for complications related to hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia. Also, dad developed stage 2 pressure ulcers/bed sores under incompetent nursing staff care on the 14th floor. Dad didn't get changed for over 6 hours or within a reasonable time after a bowel movement. Certified nursing assistants (CNAs) kicked my mother out of the room during diaper changes, stating "patient privacy" but my dad was never asked if his wife could stay at bedside. All these issues were addressed with Shova Panta, RN Manager but nothing was done and issues were overlooked. Shova lacks good clinical judgment, leadership and competent nursing skills. Dr. Shahed Abbasi, provider on the 14th floor is the Grim Reaper. My father had chills throughout the night with numbness and tingling on his lips and tongue, hand tremors, slurred speech, audible crackles and generalized edema from head to toe. All these symptoms are abnormal for him. I asked Dr. Abbasi to call 911 but she refused stating she didn't believe it was a true medical emergency. Dr. Abbasi said his vital signs (temperature, heart rate, blood pressure, respiration rate) were normal. I stated he was symptomatic. I called 911 and the operator dispatched 4 paramedics/EMT to Riverside Premier due to acuity of situation. My dad ended up in the ER trauma room with septic shock which was life threatening and was transferred to ICU. Dr. Shahed Abbasi, Shova Panta, RN Manager and nursing staff were negligent, incompetent and provided poor quality care that increased my dad's mortality rate. The only good thing about the 14th floor is PT/OT. Beware of the doctor and nursing staff. They're the ones who provide around the clock care at bedside.

Sally was amazing and took the time to hear us and talked us through what we need to make her transition seamless. Mara from administration, is always responsive and responds to our messages even after hours. We could not have been happier that we chose The New Jewish Home to care for our Mom.

Clean hallways, no smell, and anyone who's toured nursing homes knows the smell test is the real test. My friend, who lives there, says the staff are genuinely great but stretched thin, and the public data backs that up: reported nursing hours per resident run around 3.4 a day, under the national average. Good people, not enough of them. Location is the quiet win. It sits basically in the shadow of St. John the Divine, and Mount Sinai Morningside (still St. Luke's to longtime locals) is two blocks north, which matters when a hospital run happens. Amsterdam Ave has real food after visits, V&T for old-school pizza, Hungarian Pastry Shop for coffee. Well maintained, nonprofit, honest operation. Just needs more hands.
