However, our interaction with the administrative staff and social work staff was a very bad experience. As Social worker myself I understand a nursing home social worker is the bottom rung of social work . My family member was ready to be discharged on Wednesday. However she was then told that she had to wait a few days for discharge so a care plan could be completed. To the layman that sounds reasonable, yet to a veteran it means they wish to maximize their insurance payments and virtually held my family member against their will. When I confronted the Administrator, Scott, refused to give his last name, acted like a sleazy thug. The senior Social worker could not explain her actions and somehow was able to get the discharge done on Wednesday. We were knowledgeable but a layman will be exploited. The food was so bad I had to buy meals outside and bring them in because the food is inedible! Don't put your loved one here

Its a wonder NY state doesnt shut them down PTA was pretty good and caring and so was the OTA but never got to speak with the PT overseeing my friends care..who was a fall risk and never received an assessment for falls. Very sad Shame on the owners..its a for profit; obvious corporate greed at play

Just make sure you know therapy is down in the lower lobby.. LL. i had a stroke at age 26. one in a million chance ... i started my rehab therapy at lutheran shortly after being admitted. Once released i went to the shore rd center because its closer than 60th for sp[eech, ot and pt. My occupational therapist Romana is as intelligent and knowledgeable as it gets. She knows how to multiply herself when there are more than one patient as well. Her interns are well selected and experienced before coming. I couldnt ask for better people handling my recovery. She did her best to accomodate me with tools, info, props notes for work.. you name it. My physical therapist Lauren is also a godsend. We clicked right away. So professional yet cool. She has her doctrine, whats better? She does pt and helps out patients with other touchy sensitive problems. Evetyone there couldnt be nicer, they all interract great and give advice and wish you a nice night etc. Front desk :steven and jeanette are the best with planning appointments that fit YOU. we appreciate everyone so much, when we make cake at home, they get half of it. After goin since july 2011. I have upgraded 2 canes, walked up and down stairs, treadmill, moved my arm and hand which i thought was never possible, and overall self improved mentally with their guidance. Im back to work now and doing things like walk on a beach in puerto rico(this november) and swim in a pool. couldnt thank them enough. Try them out if your in need of some fixing. oh, and good luck, feel better

I was just discharged from this shameful shameful sham of a rehab place. I'd had surgery and…read moreneeded a bit of PT before I went home. OMG, this was shocking it was so bad. I had to fight to get toilet paper, yes toilet paper. No one was on the same page. There were no universal processes so everything was CHAOS. You wait and wait and wait for even pain meds. Under staffed severely. I was "discharged" last Friday without knowing I had to do it myself. I had to call the nurse at the front desk to tell her I was leaving. No one ever told me this. OMG again, I almost lost the chartered car service waiting to take me home as this nonsense was so time consuming. AND worse yet, I was sent home WITHOUT my very vital meds (heart meds!!). I called and no one knew who could do anything. The meds were there and they were so stupid they couldn't possibly just call a messenger service or send someone to me (I live 10 blocks away). They did not call in any meds to my pharmacy. This just happened and I am now going into my 4th day of no heart meds. It is a disaster and disgrace. AVOID like the plague.

Hard to believe that Hospital for Special Surgery, the finest orthopedic hospital in the world,…read moresends its patients for rehab to Mary Manning Walsh, where patients receive inadequate and incompetent care. The administrative staff is generally good, as are the nurses and, the PTs. ( Especially Yolanda) However, the caretakers and aides, save for a few, lack the tiniest bit of compassion and/or interest in the patients' welfare or comfort. They are so nasty that no amount of sensitivity training could help. This is such culture shock coming from HSS where the care and kindness is five star quality. I was left to fend for myself for hours on end when I developed diarrhea and chills and could barely get myself to the bathroom. A diaper was tossed to me, but no one came to follow up and check on me. When I rang the bell and asked for help putting my leg up on the bed, which was painful from knee replacement surgery, I was told " she showed you how to do it" before reluctantly helping me. I was told the night before my discharge that an aide, who was one of the few kind individuals there, would help bathe me and wash my hair before my discharge that morning. When she didn't show up, a different aide came in and told me that I would not be getting bathed because I had gotten bathed theday before! She seemed to really enjoy telling me that! Eventually, I was helped with bathing by the kind aide. A walker was ordered for me for my day of discharge. I had only used a walker during my weeklong stay. When my walker hadn't arrived 15 minutes before my Ambulette was set to come, I was informed that I would not be getting a walker because I got one in 2023! I was discharged shakily with a cane that I had not practiced with at all. And last, but not least, was the horrendous, vile, unhealthy food that was served. Inedible! After my week stay at Mary Manning, I felt broken.

Every time I visit -- even unannounced -- the facility is immaculate, clean, organized, and welcoming. Most importantly, the staff treats my father with genuine love, kindness, patience, and respect. He is truly happy there. He speaks so highly of the nurses, aides, and staff, and it is very clear they truly care about him as a person. That means everything to our family. His room is always neat and comfortable, and the overall atmosphere feels warm and caring. The location across from Cathedral of St. John the Divine is also beautiful and peaceful. This nursing home deserves five stars and more. Thank you to everyone there for the compassion and dignity you give to the residents every single day.
