Been going here 2 years now it's only gotten WORST! Short staff and resources unavailable. Cafeteria is horrible!!! Not many food choice. The stem building is brand new has been open for 2-3 months the ac broke over 5x, the elevator malfunctioned which causes students (even disabled) to get up 3 flights of stairs for class. Born and raised in Cali. Military with courses taken at several California community colleges, to include Modesto, Fresno, LA, and SD area. This is by far the most difficult and non-productive environment to pursue your education. It takes weeks-months just to get an appointment with an advisor, who proceeds to tell you that you've missed several deadlines and are way behind the curve... I thought that's what advising was supposed to do... help you get on track with your academic pursuits. Don't get me started on the veteran situation here. You may as well forget any educational credits for your JST as the advising department will not accept them. They have certain medical programs pigeon holed and are super disrespectful when you mention military service as a positive when applying. If you talk to the veterans office they will be annoyed and question why you are not at advising... even though they are fully aware of the terrible advising situation. If you are looking for community college course work and don't need to be in person (micro, biology, chem) just take classes at palomar, miracosta, or pretty much any other community college system. UPDATED REVIEW I have been attending MSJC for four years now. I will transfer in Fall 2024, and this is my honest review. PLUS, EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS SCHOOL. 1. Professors are nice and knowledgeable, and they also care for their students. Of course, you have those professors who have been there for such a long time and are tired of their jobs, but you also have professors who care about students and their success! (Always use RateMyProfessor before choosing a professor). Also, the Honors Program has the best professors in my experience. 2. The school provides a lot of resources if you do your research. Yes, I do agree with other reviews. Sometimes, the financial aid and counseling departments don't have a full grasp on what they are talking about, which is why it is important you do your own research. If you do, you should be fine. 3. Scheduling appointments with the Counseling Department can sometimes be difficult since they are always booked. However, it is not impossible. You just have to find your way around it. I have always been able to get my appts on time. Make sure to book ahead, but I agree that it is a struggle and is definitely an area where MSJC can improve by hiring more counselors. 4. Enrolling in classes is easy, and they have done a great job adapting to the online environment since COVID-19. Since then, the school has also increased the number of online classes offered at MSJC. 5. The school also tries to use textbooks from free sources, such as OpenStax, which is great for students because you won't have to pay for expensive textbooks all the time. However, I find that the quality of the textbooks is sometimes not the greatest, thus diminishing the quality of education, but it is doable if you get a professor who addresses gaps or mistakes in the textbooks (which is not always the case). 6. Lastly, Food at MSJC is trash. I got sick plenty of times whenever I ate at the cafeteria. Shout out to the cooks who made the food taste edible with such low and ultra-processed quality ingredients. The school does not care what they feed students, which is insane considering the impact food has on mental health and, thus, academic performance. It also provides very limited vegetarian options and has no vegan or Kosher considerations. 7. Overall, MSJC is a great school. Is not amazing, that's why they're only getting a four star review. But the school wants students to succeed. They provide resources and accommodations required to help students. If you are choosing your professors wisely, and doing your own research, as well as getting involved, you will love it here. [Pro Tip] I would get involved in the honors program ASAP as I believe it is one of the best programs they have at MSJC. Try to find programs and clubs that meet your needs, and try to be involved as much as you can. In addition, they have resources for Undocumented students, Veterans, Low-income individuals, parents, and foster youth. Just do yourself a favor and go to any other community college in this state. I have had great experiences at both Cypress and Mira Costa Colleges, and silly me, I thought every institution of higher learning would have the same level of respect and professionalism toward students. Nope! MSJC enrollment staff straight ignores students, and their mistakes cost me an entire semester and set my graduation back half a year. I have been met with incompetence and been outright ignored on every level and I deeply, deeply regret transferring to this "school". Counselors will waste your time and money having you take classes that you don't need and then shrug when you express your disappointment at having put in the unnecessary time and effort. I agree with other posters. They should have zero stars. My son transferred to the school from an out-of-state school. He needed to know what classes from his old school would transfer for so he wouldn't take classes he didn't need. He talked to counselors who gave him incorrect information or told him to make appointments where none were available. Emails went unanswered. After 8 months I helped him and got the admission staff to help. Turned out that none of his classes would transfer so he wasted a year at the school. Worst Community College in the area. If I could give 0 stars I would. I am a transfer student from ASU (currently am taking classes online*) and I need to take 2 classes in person in order to graduate. I tried speaking to someone over the phone and they gave me all the wrong information for my situation. When it came to my enrollment date for these classes I was unable to. I tried speaking to someone in enrollment center and the receptionist didn't even give me the time of day. I tried explaining to her my situation and she completely shut me down. Said to schedule an appointment and when I ask for a appointment, she states there's none??? Worst community college, please save your time, money and efforts and go elsewhere. The cafeteria food is soggy and over priced. Paid $4.75 for a burrito that was soggy and moist. I did not order a wet burrito. Also their breakfast sandwiches are $2.75 for just one and they are always super moist. Even the staff is kinda rude, there is a lady there who just could scare you half to death. It's like high school cafeteria food here. Went here to take an Automotive course at the San Jacinto Campus, was major disaster. The professor was cool but his teaching methods were garbage, and I never understood anything he was teaching mainly because he kept switching topics even when nobody had understood anything. Beside the Automotive class, the whole college lacks so many classes, food is overprices especially at the Menifee campus which they just sell large Taco Bell bootleg, literally they would charge $6.00 for a burrito combo that just comes with the burrito itself and small drink. With that amount of money they charge, I could literally walk to the Jack in the Box near the campus and get a large combo that comes with fries for less the price. I enrolled my son in a writing class his senior year of high school to allow him to get acquainted with the community college experience. We were thinking of having him attend Mt. San Jacinto so we signed him up. Navigating their sites to enroll for anything was staggering. It ended up being best just to go down there. In the end, the class he enrolled in was cancelled and I've had a horrible time trying to get my money refunded. I've been given the run around and empty promises again and again. A portion $31 of the $120 was refunded but not the rest. I am glad to have had this experience because I now know that this is a place to stay far away from. read more

I have no idea how they're still open. The data: They have lost their ability to grant student loans this past year. They are not in compliance with Federal financial aid regulations and are in danger of losing the financial aid granting abilities. Unless you are a DPSS or EOPS student you have almost no chance of getting the classes you need. The bookstore is frequently out of stock of needed texts and the line is several hours long at the start of the school year. The cost of texts here are much higher than they are on campuses that have a company-owned bookstore (like Efollett). They do not have the latest technologies in the computer labs and do not teach the latest software in computer classes. My personal experience: I earned three AA and AS degrees over ten years ago and returned to pursue a different career path a few years ago. I stopped attending MSJC after getting bad advice one too many times. Different counselors were advising me to take classes I didn't need ("take anything in this category" without consideration to my major, nor consideration to the courses I completed when I earned my previous degrees). I entered college level courses from the start. I never needed remedial classes. However, I ran out of financial aid after taking 60 units of classes, most of which I didn't need because I was misinformed. I left MSJC and attended a different institution. In the end it was best because I was able to get more specialized classes that really did count toward my major and gave me a more realistic preparation for my career. A large chunk of the professors have been teaching so long that they are out of touch with the work environment in the fields they are teaching. read more

This is in regards to the Continuing Education Pharmacy Technician course. Which I took in the Spring of 2014. This course is hosted by MSJC with the educational program being taught by a 3rd party, in this case, The Learning Oasis (Formerly Boston Reed). The course consists of a 20 week classroom education portion as well a a mandatory 120 hour externship portion that add up to the total 240 total hours required to obtain a California Pharmacy Tech license. At the end of the classroom portion of the program it was told to us students that we would only have to wait a few weeks until CVS could process our paperwork to have us start our externships. Well six months later after being told multiple times that it would only be "a few more weeks" by The Learning Oasis , I'd given up on waiting for the school to get their act together so I asked for my money back. I was told that I would have to take it up with Learning Oasis and there was no possibility of getting my money back as I'd "Already taken the course". And what a joke that course was, we had an instructor who didn't' even work in the Pharmaceutical field, online coursework and quizzes that had wrong answers more often than not, and an educational provider that couldn't be bothered to get back to us on any inquires in regards to their crummy online service. Google Boston Reed in Napa to see some less than stellar reviews. All things said and done, MSJC has done a terrible disservice to myself and those others taking this program and hopefully this review makes at least one person sit back and question whether or not they want to put down $2000 on this program. Well how can I start by saying this is not a two-year college I am sorry but I have been here since August 2014 and I am still currently attending not to mention I take five classes a semester 2 in the summer so yes it's a decent college for the decent price especially if you're receiving financial aid but this is not a two-year college this is more of a 3 to 4 year college if you're planning to get a Associates degree from this campus however if you are just trying to get 24 units and transfer of course it might be a faster process but if you're someone that's older like me that plans to graduate trust me you're going to be there for a while so have a seat kickback have a piña colada and your book ready to go. And oh yeah just a little heads up don't let them sucker you into going to San Marco for the reason that San Marco and MSJC have a priority agreement where anybody that graduates at MSJC automatically goes to San Marco so don't let them sucker you on that.
