So bad you almost feel like they have something against you. We went through a low-end process in which they sent us fuzzy, photocopied pictures of the lights they'd be sending. Since we picked them out at the showroom we didn't inspect these images, although we should have. One set of lights was delivered without any instructions, junction box, and had packaging that barely covered the light. The other lights were ridiculous, enormous, and not what we selected when we took time out of our day to go to their showroom and work with one of their employees. Not the end of the world, we wrote them and asked if we could exchange the lights for what we needed... for some reason instead of accommodating a rational request that would ensure we're not out several thousands of dollars, we received a firm and seemingly spiteful response including all caps (unprofessional) and a closing of "enjoy your lights" when they know we're being left with thousands of dollars worth of lights that aren't usable. Spare yourself the time, energy, and money. Go somewhere else, there's plenty of other options. read more

My aunt in East Village needed some help with some lighting issues. Asked around and did a yelp review and we got introduced to Miri at MSK. MSK has been our "go-to" place for all things lighting since. We're very grateful to Miri, who came to our rescue with a tricky chandelier installation job. She has got old-school kindness and professionalism which is quite rare these days. My aunt has been so happy with her quality light fixtures from MSK and their reasonable prices on repairs for our older fixtures. Miri and her staff also gave us expert advice on proper light placement in a room with little natural daylight. My aunt was going for a mid century type of feel with lamps. It's great they have a service location for repairs and custom needs. MSK is truly one of a kind. They are ABSOLUTELY the best! read more

I'm surprised at the negative reviews. My mom is an interior decorator in Manhattan and swears by MSK. Great service and selection. She just renovated my pre-war 2-bedroom in Brooklyn Heights and took me to the showroom/store, which is gorgeous, very high-end, but not outrageously priced. I'm very particular so I liked the balance of styles. We went classic with the living room and bathroom, but modern in the dining room and kitchen - recessed, overheads, sconces, etc. Delivery was on time and all in one piece! read more

Dated, limited selection. Obnoxiously high markups. Archaic proposal process. Did not give us what we selected in the showroom. Very rudely denied a return or exchange for the correct lights. They are clearly a vestige of another time in the industry. Go somewhere else for a more contemporary offering and modern sense of customer service. read more

This place rates ZERO stars. Miri, who is the owner, will overcharge you every chance she gets. She has done so 3 times in doing business with me. Once she charged me twice for some tracks and lights. When I realized this, I emailed her and received the credit. I chalked it up to an honest mistake. The 2nd time is when within one week of receiving a quote she decided to charge us $10 more per item resulting in an additional charge of $200 overall. The 3 time, which was within the same job as #2, was when she made an error in adding up the invoice resulting in my paying $3 more than I should have. Miri refused to acknowledge this error and refund the money. You can say $203 is not a lot of money. OK. However in every single dealing, MSK attempted to overcharge me. She refuse to admit an arithmetic error in the last. She shows their true colors. I strongly suggest everyone to stay far away from MSK Illuminations. read more

MSK and its owner "Miri" were hands down the worst vendor we used during our 6 month long upper east side renovation. A simple problem regarding recessed lighting in our bathrooms was made exponentially worse when our contractor needed guidance from the product manufacturer. Miri conducted herself in the most unprofessional manner and then played games like not coming to the phone, withholding the lighting manufacturer's contact information, obnoxious attitude, etc.. Ultimately our decorator and contractor had to figure out which manufacturer to contact and with whom to speak by experimenting on the Internet, where thankfully they were successful. Miri's conduct, and the conduct of her assistant Courtney, who actually hung up on a conference call, was at best inexcusable. This was after quite a bit of money was spent at MSK. As the type of lighting fixtures found at MSK are available anywhere anyway, there is no reason for anyone to subject themselves to such treatment. read more

When we started to think of how we would redesign our current condo we had no idea where to begin. We wanted interesting lighting that sparked conversations when our guests would walk in. Our trouble was how we would find the right store that had functional pieces as well as the interesting ones. A family friend turned us to MSK. Miri was an excellent resource throughout the whole process. We sent her the blue prints of our condo and she sent back her suggestions along with fixtures that would work well for our space. 8/13/2013: MSK's response is inaccurate and simply shows that multiple customers have had same Service issues. I am not RenX and my review is not a duplicate of theirs, and we never dealt with moisture in our walls. We are another unhappy customer b/c we had a long, trying and "bristly" interface with MSK and their team. My review is real and deserves to stand. read more
