She really gets to know her students, recognizes all their little quirks, and helps each and every one to develop. She's a native English speaker (but also fluent in Swedish), which is great for international students. The atmosphere is always positive and supportive but she also will give you a challenge! This school is more technique focused than many of the bellydance schools in Stockholm, and many of the classes consist primarily of drilling - the best way to build strength and make you a better dancer from the ground up. You will sweat! But there are also great dances in the choreography class. The bellydance technique is Suhaila Salimpour format, based on a famous school in California, and it is the first and currently only certified Salimpour school in Europe. Danskollektivet also has very popular classes in dancehall, afro house, ATS, and tribal fusion. Students can choose to participate in a show at the end of the semester if they want to.

The first thing that got my attention about iDance was that it was in English...There are a lot of…read moresalsa lessons around Stockholm but to my knowledge they are all in Swedish unless you ask if they will do it in English on a class by class basis. Not that it's impossible to figure out what's going on in the context of dancing, but it does add an added layer of processing if it's not your native language (and you're not very good to begin with [at Salsa OR Swedish]). But the thing that sold me was absolutely Andreas' personality and teaching style. I first took a lesson during one of the free drop-in weeks for bachata which happens a few times during the year and really enjoyed the class. It was A) fun! B) funny! (different words Swedes ;). Andreas has an awesome teaching style that really takes the stress out of dancing and makes it easy to laugh at yourself, which is essential if you are like me and hate being bad at things. He's also a pretty funny guy leading the class. The other great thing about this school is how many different locations it is taught in! North Stockholm, Central Stockholm, Söder -- there are classes everywhere, and at all sorts of hours! They also seem to remember what it's like to be a beginner. The most defeating part for me with other schools has been taking a lesson and then trying to practice in the socials with the regulars. Of course some people are helpful and most are understanding but it's not necessarily the best situation to learn when you're starting and for me it stopped being fun at that point. iDance has come up with the idea of holding practice sessions for the students in the beginners courses with slow tempo songs and cheap entrance. Awesome idea. Pretty clear they really want you to have the opportunity to succeed. It's a big group of people, so if you're expecting individual attention that's not really how this style of teaching works. It's all about follow the leader and figuring things out with your classmates. I'm not in any position to judge the technical aspects of his teaching style or whether what I'm learning follows this or that style of Salsa. Every time I go to the weekly class I smile and laugh and so does everyone else. That's 5 stars in my book. Recommended!

There's a great diversity of styles, and you can learn not just oriental Egyptian dance (raqs sharqi) but also Bollywood, Persian dance, ATS, Tribal Fusion, burlesque, and dancehall. There are many levels so you can always find one just right for you. The centrally-located studio has skylights and is light and airy, and the school also has a little shop with dance items and costumes, as well as a shower on-site so you can freshen up after class. Each semester there are big student shows held, which are professionally filmed. There is also a hafla each semester - a smaller show where anyone who wants to gets the chance to perform. Students here can expect to learn technique and fun, beautiful choreography from highly-skilled, award-winning teachers, which students then get to perform at an exciting show. Since I'm a designer I do tend to "judge a book by it's cover" a bit when it comes to the places I give my patronage. I think this salon's "cover" and content were both great! The name, the products (Original Mineral--Australian & organic), the logo, interior decor and even the stylists are so adorbs! How could I not give it a try? I'm super pleased with this place! My stylist, Malin, was really kind and friendly. She did an awesome job of talking me through the process the whole time--referencing what she was doing and why. She didn't just hijack my head like i've had happen once or twice in the past. All I can say is.... AWESOME! She hit the color I was looking for spot on! She even put cute little curls/waves in my hair before I left just for kicks. This place feels like a somewhat refreshing contrast from other salons I've been to around Stockholm. I find that the places i've tried have usually either been very fashion forward and a little cold/pretentious or more of a simple un-luxurious kind of place. I think i've been looking for something a bit more fun like Peach for a while! It's still trendy but feels warm and girly too! The only downside to this place is that they are booked up solid at the moment. You have to make your appointment two months in advance, but I can definitely see why! They do a great job and I will be coming back. I have already made my next appointment! Tip: They have a champagne day once a week (which, I think is on Friday afternoons... but, double check!) Try to schedule your appointment then if you can! Tip: Apparently, I'm told that they get to emails a lot faster than returning calls lately (since they are so busy.) If you want to make an appointment and no one can answer the phone, email them instead. You'll get a faster response!
