Oh, the mixed feelings! Where do I even start?…read more
I am thrilled to say that I had a truly marvellous experience at Clipz. But why the three stars, you wonder?
My 340 kronor deal turned into a 1200 kr "deal", that's why!
We'll start at the beginning. I bought a special on Let's Deal, for colour and styling for 350kr. I thought I also wanted a light cut - not to take much off but maybe add some layers, but I figured they could just add on a bit for that.
The salon was small, but classy-looking and clean. When I arrived for my appointment at 5, the man in the reception was on the phone - but I wasn't stressed, so that's fine. He was extremely friendly and charming, and asked if I wanted a coffee while I waited - and presented me with not just an ordinary brewed coffee, but a delicious mocha latte complete with chocolate sauce and a biscuit on the side!
The man, as well as the woman who actually washed and coloured my hair, both seemed very experienced and knowledgeable. They weren't Swedish (I think they were from Lebanon?) but they both spoke very good Swedish and communication wasn't a problem.
I showed the man a few pictures of the brown colour I wanted and he said that it had red tones in it. I said I didn't really want red tones, just golden-brown. He said he would have to mix two dyes to get it right so they would have to add a bit to the cost, and I said that was fine.
The whole experience was great - they were both friendly and funny and it was a relaxed yet professional environment. In the end the man recommended not layering but just trimming a bit this time, and layering "next time" after another round of dying, since a lot of the colour would fade and the dry ends that needed cutting would appear.
I agreed and said that was fine.
The man got off work at some point and had to go before my hair was finished, but first gave me a bag with free high-quality shampoo, saying it was a gift and that I should use it every day and it would help moisturize it.
He also said he needed to take the payment before he closed so they could close down the cash register.
Then when I went to pay - they charged me 840!! That's in addition to the deal, that was the "extra" alone.
I should have complained - I should have pointed out that it was very expensive....but he had been so nice and I got free shampoo and I thought the cut would be fantastic perhaps...but in the end the woman only trimmed off 4 centimetres. I felt bad complaining, which is my own fault, I should be more bold...but I had a hard time being mean when they had been so, so nice to me, so chatty and friendly - which I have found is unusual in Stockholm.
Both the man and the woman were very skilled, used great products, and had lots of great tips for what to do with my hair - how to style it, what products to use (without just trying to sell things) and more.
I also get a clip-card where customers get the 10th cut/whatever free, and he clipped off two since I did cut and colour...but still....
Ah. Mixed feelings. It was a great experience and I'm really happy with how my hair looks, I'm just not happy with the unexpected price tag. Maybe I'll try calling and asking for a better deal on the next one to make up for it - a free cut since this was just 4cm or something. If I do I will update the review and share how it goes!
