I went to the Riverside Thrift Shop today. Apparently, it opened only a few months ago. Being fresh and new, by all rights, they should be totally on top of their game. 1) The main problem is it's too darn small. It's little more than one small narrow room. (I think my living room at home is bigger than this store!) As a result, there isn't much inventory...mostly garage sale type stuff...not enough to pick through and find something you might like. There's a HUGE warehouse in back of this building. If THAT was part of the store and filled with stuff too, you'd really have something great. But that's not the case. 2) The dude running the shop ignored us, never smiled, never spoke, and he was completely devoid of any customer service skills whatsoever. Not cool. This definitely sealed the deal and made me not want to ever walk through the door again. There always seems to be at least one crazy person shopping at every thrift store I go to, even a super small one like Riverside. Indeed, I came across one. There was a wild eyed lady buying a dozen ceramic ducks. Despite the sparse inventory, this woman had managed to locate every duck on the premises. There is a cool little reading nook that I really appreciate it and they have a good furniture selection as well as plenty of shelves to see all the different glassware and things like that. All things considered the stores pretty well organized and I will definitely be going back here again soon if I can. Their books are SO ORGANIZED. Love this spot.

All items are fair trade or local, and all profits benefit a charity for families in need in New Ulm. Gifts here include chocolates, tea, pottery, photography, jewelry, ornaments, bird houses, and other surprises. I bought a 'kitty-bank' - a beautiful hand-made coin depository that looks like an art-deco cat. It was made in India. Because it is fair trade, it benefited the local artisan and because I bought it at New Ulm's Own, the sale will help locally, too! Note that the store is tucked away behind another. Look for the sign and walk through the front entrance past the first store. Keep going to find this shop.

The volunteer was nice and asked what kind of dog I had. Cash only, no cards. No bathroom for the public either. I noticed they have 1 shoe of each pair out. The last couple times I've gotten new paints that turned out to be excellent. I like that they have 5 different brands on hand and have a plan to add another brand. Long ago I signed up for their in house rewards program and I've used it that last several times I've gone in. The selection of games is very good. My daughter loved the Squishables. There's a big room with lots of tables where games are being played. Every staff member I've ever talked to was great and always helpful.

Brenda tirelessly answered all my questions and helped me pick out a comforter for our bed. I feel as if I purchased an heirloom, particularly since I can come back to get the wool re-carded for a fraction of the cost of comforter replacement. I placed an order and it was ready way sooner than I expected (about a week, really, or maybe less). Here's where I need to apologize, as COVID has turned me into a Yelp n00b. I TOTALLY FORGOT TO TAKE PICTURES! You'll have to trust me that the showroom is filled with all sorts of cool notions and supplies for quilter and other sew-y types. There are also woolen goods for purchase, like hats, socks and mittens. I enjoyed checking everything out while Brenda brought the comforter out for us. We've had the comforter for nearly a month and I love it! It's lofty and squishy and perfectly keeps the temperature comfortable without feeling like a ton o'blanket. As soon as I relocate to a home with more bedrooms, I'll be buying more comforters.
