Ordered takeout from here tonight. (First time) We ordered the "take out pack" with 4 strips and 2 fish (we added 6 shrimp) and the combo with 3 shrimp and 2 strips. HOLY MOLY, it was so much food! The take out pack was in a tinfoil pan, full of strips, fish, fries, and hush puppies! The strips were huge, fresh, AND homemade! (Delicious also) Yummy honey mustard and ranch also. We ordered our food, there was no ice, I wanted root beer, but that was out and I went to sit with my wife at a 4 top and my wife was getting up because the lady behind the counter told her that we needed to move because another group had come in and needed the 4 top. First of all the fish here is great. I warn you though when walking in beware of a serious tripping hazard. Entering the restaurant from the entry there is a ramp that has a lip that caught my shoe. Great catfish and great fries. We came around 2pm in the afternoon and there were 2-3 other parties there. It was a little hard to find and easy to miss since the sign is a bit lower and smaller than expected. The catfish is fresh, flavorful, and with good batter. I especially liked the fries because they were crispy on the outside and soft inside. The Cole slaw is Mayo based and was slightly sweet. Hush puppies also good with a white cornbread. I had passed Mr. Whiskers several times before I decided to stop in. Standing in front of the menu board, the Thursday Special scrolled by - 'one-half smoked chicken'. It sounded good, but this was a fish place (there's even a carton catfish mascot!). I wondered if I should take the road less traveled and order the smoked chicken, or get catfish. I decided on the chicken. I'm always slightly wary when people use glowing superlatives when giving food reviews, and you may be too. However (and please trust me when I say) this is absolutely the best smoked chicken in the entire history of mankind! They smoke it in a smokehouse adjacent to the restaurant. The accompanying fries were very good as well. I'm not sure the smoked chicken is an every Thursday special, but run...don't walk...to experience it for yourself. Next time I'll visit on a non-Thursday and try the catfish! read more

Really delicious and great service. This is a counter service place but the guy who took our order was so friendly and efficient. He also helped us move tables to accommodate our large party. The food portions were huge and everything was really tasty. I think collectively we tried everything on the menu with no complaints. I think this is a must if you're visiting Hot Springs. read more

What a delightful place. So glad we made the 9 mile drive out here. So many great things we have heard, but I think the drive and perhaps covid has lessened business here. I certainly hope it hangs in there. Make note, yelp says closing time is 8pm, but handwritten sign on door informs us it is closing at 7pm tfn. Again, glad to be here in time for this. I feel, by looking around that this business is definitely sustained by local clientele, maybe we yelpers can change that. Great oldies music playing lightly in the background. Can I just say how nice that is to not have to shout at the others I am dining with, or have to hear over the top uncensored music? Love it. And customer service? This is not a fast food joint, but its similar enough that you order your food at the counter and then sit down, they bring the food to the table. The guys that bring the food are very quick to bring the necessities , forks etc. But you ask, how is the food? Well here i have to be completely honest with ya all and maybe even disappoint some. The hush puppies were awesome, wished more than 2 came with the meal, or that we had ordered extra. The cole slaw was really good. Very finely chopped, probably food processor, but great taste. Our fries weren't the hottest, as in, kinda cold and left untouched, and IMHO, my fish could have been fried a bit more. I don't like the wet white strings that scream out to me 'NOT THOROUGHLY COOKED ' maybe mine were a fluke, idk. The others did not complain. And they were a bit "fishy" yes its fish, but that does not mean it has to have THAT FISHY taste. Same with the shrimp, didn't taste "clean" is the only word I can think of. The cocktail sauce was a big help for the shrimp. I'm not a sauce person for fish, so just the lemon and salt were my choice. The portion size of the filets were a bit disappointing to me, but I am from Houston Texas, maybe we do go big on everything and this is just a reflection of that mind set. So, what is my bottom line? I don't know, I want to love this place, and for the atmosphere... 5 big ole stars. If not for the food, I would've given this place a 1 star. The service was consistently slow from table to table. We actually timed the food delivery after we started realizing how slow this place was. Food was being delivered on an average of 30 mins per table. If that's within your wait time. Went here for dinner and we went there because of the high reviews. You walk in, order you food, get a number and seat yourself. While your food arrives you get your drinks and condiments. We went on a Saturday night and the kitchen was swamped, we sat down and they had 10 orders waiting so the food took quite some time. Got drink refills before the food came. The food was freshly prepared and quite good. The combos come with plenty of French fried potatoes (lightly salted), hush puppies (crunchy on the outside and tasty), And the cole slaw......was THE BOMB DOT COM cole slaw (so good I could eat a bowl of it) it is very finely chopped, very light on the onions, and very moist, almost watery, but not quite, slightly sweet, and not overly spiced up, the cole slaw will bring me back to Mr. Whiskers. The chicken tenders were moist on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The catfish, voted best catfish (finalist) in the state of Arkansas was disappointing, was cooked right, but lacked flavor, and the biggest disappointment was the portions size of the fillets. I discovered it about 8 years ago at their old location and have been stopping in when I am in the area since. I highly recommend the catfish and shrimp plate, #13. Previous visits to Mr Whiskers warrant **** The good: mr whiskers has been consistently delicious and prompt on four previous visits. We like to indulge in the deep fried goodness about every other month and we're due for a fish fix, perhaps we should have waited for a week night as things fell apart at the restaurant on derby Saturday. The bad: this place was jammed packed at 6pm. After a quick call to find out if things were on the 'slow down' at 6:45 we were told that it seemed to be calming down. 7 pm-In we went, straight into a line 25 deep winding thru overflowing tables and grumpy customers. The line did move pretty quickly and we went out to try to find seating for 6...a definitive no go...ended up splitting 3 and 3 and sat down for the wait. At 8:00 there was no sign of our meal. Asked a waitress about it and got the brush off with a promise to check on it. 8:15-still no food. 8:30 went back up to counter to find out what was up as other patrons arriving later than us had received their orders. We were told they had 'misplaced' our order and would be making it immediately, we should have food on the table in six minutes. The ugly: six minutes was more like 10. 100 minutes wait for deep fried food? Wow! Once served, some items were warm at best, not the ideal temp for fried food. Double cheeseburger was down right cool and actually was more of a 1 1/2 cheeseburger... very unappetizing. None of our combo meals were served with the included cole slaw. They had run out...of slaw...at a fried fish joint...on a Saturday night??? This would have been my last visit to Mr Whiskers if the very apologetic owner's daughter hadn't been quick to defuse our disappointment. Redemption: there was some sort of staff meltdown or some employees didn't show up or whatever, I can understand staff issues, but loosing a large order is just not good. They did give us some free brownies and a gift certificate for the amount we spent along with a very sincere apology for the extreme wait and off temperature food. Mr Whiskers is a great place for a week day/weekend lunch, I do not think I will return for a Saturday evening meal after this experience. My husband and I happened across Mr. Whiskers on our anniversary. My husband loves catfish so we decided to give it a go. He loves his catfish (and the tartar sauce). I had the shrimp po boy. The French bread was fresh and lightly toasted. The shrimp were hand breaded and sizeable. I really enjoyed it! We also added hush puppies and pickled green tomatoes. It was pretty good. Average fries, average coleslaw good hush puppies, great bar of sauces. Now let's talk ribs. I'm from Texas. I added a rib to my meal. It was done, but very dry and very heavy with fake smoke flavor. There was no BBQ sauce I could see anywhere. I didn't eat it all.. I think if you're going to serve ribs, soak them in your favorite sauce. Or skip it. One fine lady there was working hard and efficiently. The set up is good and ambience just right for the fare. I've been eating here for over a decade. Old location was smaller and busier since it was closer to town. Oysters are no longer on the menu. Fish and shrimp are good , IF they are served hot. How on earth did this place get a 4 plus rating? Don't get me wrong, it's ok, but 4.5 stars. I had a burger basket, side of coleslaw and three fried oysters. I love burgers and I love oysters. Maybe my two favorite foods. The burger was average, the fixings were subpar, the tomato slice (that's right slice, no s on that) was from the very end with the base of the stem still in the slice. The bun fell away wet about three quarters of the way through. The fries were average, not bad. They weren't greasy. The coleslaw was syrupy sweet and watery. Now, to the oysters; they appeared to be straight out of a bag. No way they were battered onsite. I grew up on the coast, I've eaten oysters for decades. I've had some great fried oysters and I've had some really nasty ones but this is the first time I've had food service oysters. I hope I never do again. If I was rating just the oysters I'd give them one star. Lots of that, you can tell it was frozen breading, and just a nibble of oyster hiding in there somewhere. If I was ever going back, which I'm not, I would definitely get the fish. I ride the M/C to Hot Springs two or three times a month just to have coffee and eat. Mr Whiskers is off the list. I recommend Rectors, now that's a good place to eat. read more

We came to Mr. Whiskers based solely on Yelp reviews. We were very pleased with the entire experience. We pulled up shortly after 12 o'clock noon and the place was packed. That is always a good sign to me. They had a steady stream of customers the entire time we were there which was about 40 minutes. It is very easy to order and then find your seat. The food came out hot and delicious. Perhaps the best piece of catfish I have had in a long, long time! The chicken strips were very generous and the slaw was outstanding in my wife's opinion. I also enjoyed the freshly-brewed sweet tea. Once our food came out, that was the last of the customer service, which was fine because everything we needed was readily available, including refills, sauces, salad dressing, etc. Mr. Whiskers is a pleasant motorcycle ride from our house. Really disappointed in this place, after hearing good reviews. Had the #12 which is 3 shrimp and 2 chicken strips with coleslaw and hush puppies and fries. The hush puppies weren't cooked completely and the fries tasted as they were cooked yesterday, very stale and cold. I wouldn't feed the coleslaw to anyone, almost like taking a bite full of sugar, yuk.
