But they also had a nice assortment of teas. It made a great place to pick up a gift for my wife, who is an avid tea-lover. The staff there was also quite pleasant which made the visit all the more enjoyable. The only downside I noted was that it was a small shop. The Sunday afternoon I was there, it was quite crowded and difficult to navigate because of the number of bodies inside. But the end result was worth the effort.

Last Christmas he bestowed upon me a lovely little white box of mixed truffles made locally in Colchester. I love gifts, I love chocolate, and I love local, so it was splendid. I waited until well after my return Stateside before diving in because I know me and chocolate - we begin and end quickly. The truffles were wonderfully indulgent, not large, and just the right amount of sweet when you need to treat yourself. Have to many and you go to far. Minerva has done a wonderful job of making it just right. All the flavors were grand such as vanilla, strawberry champagne, salted caramel and others. Some were dusted lightly on the outside as well. The flavors were lovely. I highly recommend just picking yourself up a small box, it's all you need, and indulging once in a while in these hand made lovelies.

Once you enter this old-fashioned sweet shop, you will find it hard to leave. Apart from shelves full of all sorts of sweets from around the world, the main attraction is the counter laden with fudge. There are so many types and flavours of fudge on offer, that it's hard to choose. I usually end up leaving this shop with many paper bags containing small amounts of different flavours. I can vouch they are all delicious and you'll probably be back for more. :) There are also jars of jams, marmalades, curds as well as hard candy on offer. My only complaint is that the service tends to be a bit slow. Overall, a nice little shop full of sweet treats for children and adults alike.

It is not cheap, but the six chocolates in a packet are rich, flavoursome and mouthwateringly superb. The entrance is dominated by tempting (but highly priced) giant slabs of chocolate in a wide range of flavours. Beautiful in appearence, they make excellent gifts for the person who has everything (except enough chocolate, there is never enough chocolate). At the rear of the shop the selections of small packets of six chocolates are helpfully arranged by chocolate colour, fruit and nut selections. The varieties change regularly, which keeps you coming back for more I would not recommend this chocolate for children; too expensive. Buy them a bar of the ordinary stuff, and save this initiation for when they are old enough to appreciate it!
