I sometimes go to Carmelo's in Palm Coast that takes walk-ins and appointments. There, if you get in the door before closing, you get a great haircut! Not at Mr. Ray's! With two barbers, serving two nearly complete haircuts at 6:15, and no one waiting, I was shown the door. Lazy, poor customer service! read more

Got to Mr. Ray's on a Saturday morning 5 minutes before they were scheduled to open and to my surprise they were already open and had a small crowd inside already. I waited maybe 10 minutes before being called to the chair. I found the barbers to be great conversationalists and barbers. They did a fantastic job on my head for $18. Walked right in and only had to wait a few minutes. But I can easily see this place being packed. Overall, fantastic haircuts. Great banter between the team members there. Cool, not necessarily politically correct atmosphere. I find it interesting that they have you turned away from the mirror. You get to see everyone else getting their hair done but not you. Watching them manage the Satirday morning rush before firet day of school is unbelievable. I owe them an apology for being too sensitive in one interaction. I moved to a new area close to Fruit Cove and found Mr. Ray's here on Yelp. I decided to get my haircut there for the first time. My barber was Jeff and I had him give me a fade with a little off the top. Jeff actually did a perfect job. It was a very friendly and laid back atmosphere. The price was reasonable. Okay, I've tried to give Mr Rays the benefit of doubt but who ever answers the phone should stick to cutting hair. Every time you call and ask for an appointment they are very short and just say "All Booked". Maybe if Biz is so good hire a front desk/scheduler? The one good thing is that by the time they answer the phone, get you booked, you'll be ready for your next, next haircut. Get it together Mr Rays. read more

If you're looking for a good quality haircut and need it booked 1 to 2 weeks out then Mr Ray's is the spot. When you call you can tell they don't want to answer the phone and every time tell you that the entire week is booked. This is the only barber shop I would trust with my son's hair. My husband has been going here for over a year now and we started taking our 5 year old here about 8 months ago. They know exactly how to cut his double crown perfectly. It is a drive from our house but we like their work so much we keep coming back. Everyone that works here is so nice and seem to really enjoy their job. They also treat us like part of the family. It gets super busy so you may have to wait as I don't think they take appointments every day. We've never made an appointment we just stop in, take a seat on the bench and wait. read more

The place is great,anyone of the barbers can handle the haircut style that I just started wearing. Like any great barber shop or clips place,if you can go in and see full barber chairs,guess what your in the right place. And really I've only seen one place like it and that's Mr. RAY'S. Just like a good friend told me,if you can go into a restaurant and no one is there,it's best to keep looking for another place. This review is not for the barber shop as a whole, but rather for the "barber" who has cut my hair the past few times I've been in the shop. As I said, I've gotten several haircuts from Dina and she's screwed up my hair every time I've gotten her. I ask for the same traditional men's haircut every time I go and she manages to gap up my hair without fail. It seems as though the most simple men's haircut is a struggle for her to do. At this rate, i'd honestly rather cut my own hair than pay $16 to have that lady completely ruin it. Not even a hat can cover up the mess. If I ever go back, I'm booking an appointment with either Alicia or Daniel. They do a phenomenal job. Otherwise, I'm taking my business elsewhere. I've been here several times and the haircuts are "ok" (not great), reasonably priced. There's always been a certain lack of emotional maturity with some of the staff. However, when a few of them (male) started whispering to each other and the guys in their chairs like little schoolchildren and MAKING----NOT ONE----BUT MULTIPLE HOMOPHOBIC COMMENTS DIRECTED TOWARD ONE OF THEIR OWN CLIENTS who stayed quiet and was obviously embarrassed (and in the same room as other customers, including children): I just couldn't let this slide. Sorry, but this hateful behavior is totally unacceptable. I won't be coming back. read more
