We celebrated our anniversary tonight at Mr. Lester's Steakhouse and had a solid experience overall. We started with the chargrilled oysters. They were just okay, the oysters themselves were on the small side and the bread served with them was a little tough. That said, they brought out a separate basket of house breads that were excellent. Fresh, warm, and worth the calories. For entrées, we ordered the sea bass and the 14 oz ribeye. The sea bass was very good and generously topped with crab meat, rich without being overpowering. The ribeye, though, was the star of the night. Perfectly cooked, well seasoned, and absolutely mouthwatering. Exactly what you expect from a proper steakhouse. Sides were creamed spinach and lyonnaise potatoes. Both were well prepared and complemented the meal nicely. For dessert we shared the crème brûlée, and as always, it delivered, smooth custard with that perfect crack on top. To top it off, they brought out a plate with chocolate-covered strawberries and a few other sweet treats, which was a nice touch and made the evening feel special. Overall, a very enjoyable dinner. This restaurant is inside the casino and its an open casino meaning you have to walk through it to get to the restaurant. I haven't been to a lot of casinos, but this one seemed pretty average compared to the grand Lake Charles ones I've been to. The restaurant itself is very nice! We sat in the main dining area. The cigar room was a lot more lively in full and in a separate area behind separate doors. We went on a Friday around 8 PM and it was not packed at all. The crowds seemed a lot older like above 50s. They serve you an assortment of bread like focaccia, garlic bread, a muffin, and a cheddar/bacon croissant with dips so honestly, you don't need to order an appetizer! For entrées, my husband got the 12 ounce fillet with the garlic mashed potatoes, and I got the salmon with the same side. We got the half size mashed potatoes and they were the perfect size so I would stick with the half size portions for the sides! The food was very good. He got his steak medium rare, and it was extremely tender, but could've used more flavor. My salmon was extremely tender and very flavorful!! I didn't care for the asparagus side because it only had hollandaise on top and the asparagus themselves had no flavor. The garlic mashed potato side was very good though and so is the crab and corn bisque soup! They have a lot of desserts but they all seem to be very large portions so we opted out and they served us a small plate with a praline, chocolate covered strawberries, and petite fours as a complementary desserts! We had a lot of leftovers and they boxed your leftovers for you and put it in a bag. All in all we had a great experience. The service is top-notch. We are younger, so it just seemed like it was for an older crowd. The quality of the food is more high-end, so it is pricier! I don't think we will be returning, but it was nice to give it a shot! It's a shame what this place has become. We went with a party of 12 for a special occasion and were sat at a really small table that was meant for 8. And they were not busy at all so could've sat us at a more accommodating spot. We did have 2 servers that could get you a drink in about 10 mins. Food was alright but service was a total miss. 5 stars for ambiance and service. 4 stars for the food. While everything was yummy, my lobster was a little tough, and the sides were a little under seasoned. The prime rib was huge but very fatty. I could eat the BBQ shrimp and grits every day for the rest of my life. Lobster bisque was rich and heavenly. It's definitely a place you have to experience a few times. It's worth it. Took the wife here for our anniversary dinner. The ribeye was good, but people had compared it to Ruth's Chris and it wasn't that good. Wife had the crab cake and didn't care for it but the real star was the crab dip appetizer that was on special. The bread basket they bring out with an assortment of butters was really good too. Showed up on time for our reservations, was seated right away. We waited 18 minutes before we saw our waitress. The hostess served us water. After ordering our drinks. We waited 45 for them to arrive. Our appetizers arrived before them. The crab cake was lacking crabmeat. The steak was so tough it had to be sent back. The service was extremely slow. A manager never came by to check on us. Extremely disappointed in the whole experience. 4 out of the 6 of us were first time diners and would not return. Mr. Lester's is one of THE best steakhouses that I've been to and I've been to many high end steakhouses all over and Mr. Lester's has got it going on. From friendly service top notch bc you're not a number seated at a table you are a very important guest! My husband and I go quite often and they get it right every time. The blue point marinated crab salad, soft shell crab Appetizer, bone-end ribeye and filet mignon not to mention the tuna are all fabulous! Def our top to-go places. read more

Happy Birthday to ME!!!! Getting the lobster! Consistent great food and service! Ever since I was a kid, my parents and grandparents have been going to Mr. Lester's. I used to only get my seafood platter in a go box when they got home, but for the past 8 years I have gotten to experience it all in real time! I forward to eating here each and every time I get a chance. Their steaks are the best I have ever had, and their desserts are decadent as all get out! I went for my birthday rt before the restaurant had to close. I really did like this place but lately they have going down hill. I ordered a huge cowboy ribeye steak. When they brought it to me it was so small that I started to laugh because I thought it was a joke. I told them I ordered the cowboy ribeye and they said this is it. The best restaurant in the area by far. Fine dining, fabulous service, fantastic food, superb atmosphere. We are regulars here and we always have the fresh coffee, espresso, and either the whole chocolate raspberry praline tort or the bread pudding. read more

I had a wonderful experience at Mr. Lesters! Not only was the food to die for, but the atmosphere was very pleasant. Our main server, Dodie, was friendly and knowledgeable (she told us she had been there for 21 years!!) Believe me when i say.. everything you get here will be delicious. We had the stuffed shrimp and crab cakes appetizers and they were amazing! The portions were kind of small, but we did have a table of 6. They also bring out a variety of freshly baked breads before the meal accompanied with different kinds of butter. They definitely know how to cook a steak here! Do yourself a favor and get your steak pepper crusted. This is what sent my thought on this place soaring. I got the 8 oz. filet pepper crusted with grilled shrimp on top. (The shrimp were 10 extra dollars and i only got three.. that kind of stinks). And for dessert, i had the creme brulee! They also brought out some complimentary pralines and chocolate covered strawberries. I left Mr. Lesters weighing about 10 extra pounds but it was totally worth it! There is no way I can be on Yelp and not write a review about on of my top 3 all time steakhouses. Let explain best steak Mr. Lesters is in my top 3. Overall food, decor, atmosphere, service Mr Lesters #1 hands down. Ok let me first start with the service from the time you place your call to make your reservation you know you are in for a special night. They are very nice, friendly and accommodating. There is hardly ever a wait when you have reservation which is usually and indication this place has a very organized flow even when the place is jammed pack. The decor and atmosphere speaks for itself very elegant with nice wood brick accents with big comfortable leather chair and booth all very roomy. They also have a very nice cigar lounge and a private dining room that seat about 12 ppl. Alone like with every other aspect of the decor the private dining room does not disappoint at all if not impress you even more. The food ohhh my. Not along after you have been seated and your order is taken, sometime before you lead server will come over a bring you a bread basket with at least 8 or more different bread and three type of butter. The server will take the time to give a description of each bread and the three butters. Let me tell you allllll the breads are good and fresh one of my favorite things about this place. Now for the appetizers my favorite of all time is the crab cakes. Not you traditional crab cake these are done with a lump crab season cream cheese mixture rolled in panko bread crumb and deep fried Then there is the lump crab stuffed mushrooms. Poor little mushroom caps are smothered and lost in a mound of season lump crab meat baked to perfection. Now the steak, I have only had the peppercorn crusted ribeye 12oz. I cannot begin to say how good this prime cut of beef seasoned perfectly with the nice texture contrast from the peppercorn. Now I will say on one visit the chef must have gotten a little heavy hand and added to much peppercorn but they immediately fixed it and it was perfect. So on subsequent visits I tell the server to assure the peppercorn is not too heavy. I also ventured outside my usual once and had my steak topped with sautéed crawfish tails (slap yourself for never have tried this). Sorry it's a Louisiana thing lol (yes Louisiana born and raised). Side items I have had the four cheese au gratin potatoes, praline sweet potatoes, asparagus Hollandaise, lyonnaise potatoes, and cream spinach just as with everything prepared perfectly nothing to add nothing to take away pure awesome. I have to say I never had any of the dessert but I heard they are very good from another friend. Even if you don't order dessert you will receive a complimentary (bite size cheese cAke, pecan praline and chocolate covered strawberry). I know I said the same thing what a way to end a great dining experience. read more

This used to be one of my very favorite restaurants. We went this past Saturday night with a party of eight & were totally disappointed. 5:30 reservations and seated promptly, restaurant not overly crowded. Bread baskets were awesome. Downhill from there. Ordered appetizers and did not receive them for 45 minutes. Corn & crab bisque was good but luke warm. Ordered entree and side dishes, another 45 minutes for food to arrive cold. Only items hot were creamed spinach & potatoes Au gratin. Broccoli & Cheese was cold. Five steaks, Grilled Shrimp & the Fish Special (raw) were served COLD. Fish was sent back and not replaced until everyone was almost finished eating. When you pay $50 dollars plus, per person, you expect it to be fresh off the grill, not Saturday night. One member of our party got sick on the Shrimp. We will think long and hard before we return to one of Louisiana's top rated Steakhouse's. When we reported our dissatisfaction to the manager we were given such a lame excuse I'm ashamed to post it! read more

I like the hotel, I like the casino, I like the service in this restaurant and it's pretty but I can't say I'm a fan of the food. Granted, I only had the onion soup and the shrimp cocktail but, well sad to say but it wasn't good. The bread in the soup was soft and had no texture, the cheese was bland. The soup itself did have some flavor but nothing to make you say.........YUMMY! and wolf it down. The shrimp cocktail was also disappointing, the shrimp were fresh but far too salty and that ruined it, the cocktail sauce didn't have enough of a heat kick for me either. Great and friendly service though! I ate at the bar, and the bartender was very friendly and made me feel comfortable dining alone. I was there very early on a week night so there was no one else at the bar while I was there. They also serve a huge bread basket with lots of different breads but I really didn't enjoy any of them. I tried them all, you get like 6 different types. I'm glad I didn't try a steak here because based on the items I did have.....I don't think that it would be anything special. I couldn't finish my shrimp cocktail or soup because I really didn't care for them. I am sure if I had spoken up they would have removed it from the bill, but the service was so great I didn't want to offend. read more

Mr. Lester's steaks are really good, the ambience is nice and the coffee setup at the end of the meal (order it!!) is pretty impressive. I'm in Houston writing this review because I see the other two star and that's not fair. I've been here three times over the years and can't wait to get back. Saturday evening party of 6 The noise level from the bar area was horrible. It did not allow for an enjoyable meal. The staff could have cared less. The staff helped us set up the menu, including assistance designing a menu for a member of our party who has dietary challenges.
