Edwin Stipe - New truck for our growing plumbing department arrived this week.

    Edwin Stipe

    (42 reviews)

We recently had a furnace and water heater installed by Edwin Stipe and, based on this…read moreinstallation, I would never recommend them to anyone. Here's the story: Several years ago, Edwin Stipe replaced our A/C. We were happy with the install, and happy with the technicians who have been inspecting the unit as part of the service plan. This is why we chose Edwin Stipe for the furnace and water heater install. Tim Fleischood of Edwin Stipe came to our house and made recommendations for the work. It sounded reasonable, and based on past work, we went ahead with the job. One of the problems I had with the old furnace was the filter was located inside the furnace and it was always collapsing. Tim said no one installed the filter in the furnace anymore, and promised it would be on the outside in the ductwork. Installation day came. The workers were friendly and respectful of our property, donning booties to keep the floor clean as the brought equipment and tools in and out of the house. This is where the positives end. When the installation was complete, I discovered the filter was installed inside the furnace, just like Tim said it would NOT be. The workers said it would be OK and the filter would not collapse. I grudgingly said OK, and they left. When they left, they said someone would contact me for the permit inspections. The A/C was running and after a couple of hours I decided to check out the filter. I had to remove 4 or 5 sheet metal screws to access the filter (ridiculous!) and the filter was indeed collapsing. Looking at the installation, I noticed, among other things, the gas to the furnace was off. WTH? Clearly the furnace was never tested, and no one said anything about returning any time to turn on the gas or testing the furnace! There were also massive air leaks in the duct work where they had installed a transition piece for the new furnace. I contacted Tim, explained my frustration, and he said they would return. The same tech who did the installation returned (I hope he never returns again). He told me (believe it or not), it doesn't matter if there are air leaks because its in the house. What?? He had absolutely no answer as to why the gas was left off and asked if I wanted the furnace tested. Uh, yeah! The tech turned on the gas and ran the furnace for about 30 seconds. He cut a very jagged hole in the side of the ductwork, mutilated a filter because it didn't fit, and cut a piece of exhaust flue in half, straightened it out, and screwed it over the filter. I was livid! It was the worst hack job I've ever seen. I contacted Tim (yet again) and sent him a picture of what was done. He promised that someone would come out fix everything. A few days later, another installation team came out and installed a proper filter holder. They left and I thought all was good. After a month and a half, I contacted Edwin Stipe to ask if a permit was applied for, because no one had contacted me for an inspection. They said they had mailed the permit information to me and I would have to contact the township for the inspection. OK, but it would have been nice if they had told me that in the beginning! Well, today were the inspections, one for electrical, one for mechanical. The electrical inspector noted that the top of the 2 foot conduit was not supported and it should be. He said it was sloppy work and he would talk to the installer. He didn't fail it, since I said I'd support the conduit. The mechanical inspector noted that the exhaust for the water heater should have a minimum of 3 screws equally spaced at each exhaust joint. Of four joints, only one had enough screws holding it together. He gave me the option of him failing the inspection or I could add screws. I promised to add screws. As much as I would have wanted Edwin Stipe to return and complete the job to the point it could pass inspection, I really didn't want to schedule them to come out yet another time, and have to reschedule the inspection. Plus, I'm not really sure they would have done it correctly. So, zero communication, three visits to complete the installation, sloppy work, and an installation I had to complete in order to pass inspection. Would I recommend Edwin Stipe? Certainly not!

Do Not Recomens! My wife and used Edwin Stipe for a/c and heating needs. We signed up for the…read moreservice plan to have it checked once a year to service our system and make sure everything is working correctly. The service man came out and stated we needed a new upstairs heating and a/c unit. We just had the blower replaced three years prior. The gentleman told us the unit is getting ready to expire and he recommended a new a/c and heating unit at the cost of $16,000 to $20,000. We got a second opinion. Thank God we did. The unit is working fine. The gentleman that came out said there was a wire that powered up the unit was very loose and could cause the system to eventually not work. He repaired the connection. To date, we have had no issues with either one of the a/c or heating units. Note: the gentleman that came out to service our units were highly recruited by Edwin Stipe to work for them. People, beware of the scams that Edwin Stipe uses in increase their new unit installs to increase there total sales for the year!

Tom, Kevin and Kayden started the demo and was finished in good time. then the install got started less Kayden for a day or so. then the floor company had 1 day then Tom and Kevin were back for a day or two, then Kayden came back for a day or two with Tom. Tom and Jason finished the work less minor items waiting for arrival and Tom came back to finish the remaining work. all done except the custom shower doors but will be installed when ready. overall, a good job done well in good time. would recommend Schuler anytime

Several years ago I hired Schuler to plumb a laundry room drain pan for me. The salesmen did not…read morebother to measure the area, nor did he give much thought to the shape and dimensions of the pan. The result? A pan that was plumbed so close to the wall that a mere 1.75" exists between the back of my washing machine and the wall to allow for the hoses, and this is with the washing machine as far forward as it can go in the pan. This places a lot of pressure against those hoses. There should be at minimum 6" to 8" of space for the hoses to hang, and there was plenty of room for that. Also, the bottom of my dryer was unable to clear the lip of the pan, so it sits up on wooden blocks, and they even needed to remove trim to fit it all in there. This was their solution in a laundry room that had enough space to accommodate virtually any residential washing machine and clothes dryer out there. I now need a new washing machine, and the only one that will fit depth-wise (and just as poorly) is the identical Speed Queen, which I would never buy again for reasons which are irrelevant. So because of Schuler I will now be washing my clothes by hand because I can't fit any other brand washing machine in that pan. The cost to hire someone else to replumb the pan, remove the bolts which hold the wooden blocks in place, and replace the vinyl flooring they ruined would be astronomical, not to mention, this is a job you should only have to dump money into once. I filed a BBB complaint years ago with no results, though there was plenty of back and forth between us. When I would call the office, I would be hung up on as soon as they heard my name. I left a review on their Facebook. Someone there messaged me that that were sorry and asked what they could do to help. The person who sent that message must not have realized who I was and that 'the orders' were to 'hang up' on me. Once they realized this, my review got zapped, and they blocked me from their page. Google, too. If you're a disatisfied customer, and it will cost too much time and money to fix or redo a job, Schuler will just zap you away. The FTC has now heard from me, and I encourage anyone else out there who has been treated unfairly by this business or any business to do the same, and this includes price gouging. I paid almost 6k for them shrink my laundry room to where it will only ever fit a teeny tiny Speed Queen. That's not fair business practice. I've given them so many opportunities to right their wrong, but when I'm sitting here thinking...what if Speed Queen ever increases the depth of their washing machines to where even theirs won't fit? Or...what if I sell my home? A second-floor laundry with a plumbed-in pan should be a selling point, not a deterrent. Not a good feeling...

The system was installed in Nov of 2020 - brand new furnace and piping overhead- new zone valves and bleeders - I reiterated the importance of not having a system that would fail every year since this is what I had been previously experiencing. Again, he convinced me that he had given me thee best option. He took his time with the installation and I finally had heat running. Well it took 1 year and one of the One valves failed. he came expecting payment for switching it out saying that I had to pay for his time. As a result of the zone valve breaking, my pipes froze. there was some water damage and he finally comes after some coercion expecting payment. Telling me that he only warranted his labor for year. Here it was January the following year - 2 mos following. I paid him top dollar and I was expecting top dollar service. Not for him to try and get money from me for broken parts that HE installed. And for a failure, I would expect that he would've been willing to fix. Bottom line is he was only after the quote/money. Once the installation was complete, he could care less about any issues that would surface. I would never use Applause again. I have a system under warranty that's not really under warranty. Had to pay another plumber to address the frozen pipe that the faulty valve created. Left bleeder on during initial installation causing water damage to 2nd floor ceiling. Walked away like it wasn't an issue.

He explained everything he did very clearly. Ultimately, it took a power auger with a 2" bit to push through a piece of tile in the main line leftover from a contractor remodel a few months back. John was great throughout. Solved the problem and charged a fair price. Very happy with his service. Highly recommend.
