    House-made Grapenut Ice Cream
    Chris C.

Chef Glen, known for his decadent pastries, has found a way to elevate Jamaican food and the dining experience. The ambiance of this place has a feeling of sophistication, with a tropical flair that extends to their patio out front. That feeling also extends to their service and food - both outstanding! My meal started with a delicious salad that included spinach, blueberries, mango, tomato, feta, and more. It was a delicious blend of flavours and a great start to a meal. For my main course, I chose the Traditional Curry Goat Dinner, served with rice & peas, festival, fried plantain, and corn. It was served in a cast iron skillet on a wooden charger. The presentation was unexpectedly different, beautiful and totally awesome! Great impression! It was also delicious, with tender pieces of meat, rich flavours, and generous portions. Although I was quite full, I couldn't resist having Chef Glen's house-made ice cream. I chose Grapenut, a flavour I grew up with and is not really mainstream. It was rich, creamy, and delicious! The presentation was also excellent! To wash it all down, I had coconut waster, served in a freshly chopped coconut. Very refreshing! Their regular menu includes Jamaican staples like Jerk Chicken, Oxtail, Ackee and Saltfish, and more. There is also a selection of pasta dishes, soups, salads, and starters that include lobster, shrimps, Ital (vegan) dishes, and specials. For delicious Caribbean cuisine, adult beverages, excellent service, and live entertainment on the weekends, make your way over to Mr Delicious by the Beach, located on Bayly St, east of Whites Rd, in Pickering.

Took our number and never called us and placed people who arrived after us before us because of the way we look. Disgusting. Never go here.

A beautiful cake, artistically decorated without being garish? Look no further than Pesteh bakery. It took some research on my part to find a family-run bakery in Durham region. After a few very difficult years, many local businesses are trying to regain their footing, if indeed they were able to weather the storm. Pesteh fit my bill for a family-run, small business that makes unique, cheffy and artistic cake creations. The two cakes I ordered, Chocolate and the signature Pistachio, looked and tasted like nothing I could ever make. I am no dessert chef. My guests didn't even ask if I'd made the two cakes, but rather, where did I order them from? Pesteh's cakes taste every bit as remarkable as the look of their decorations. The chocolate cake had a pronounced chocolate, rather than merely sugary, taste. The pistachio cake sang with bright color and pistachio flavour. Wow. Just, wow. Not only did Pesteh provide us with cakes to show with pride, but also, the thoughtful owners gave us instructions on how to carefully store leftovers. Not that there were any leftovers. Guests were asking for seconds! Are you looking for an epic cake for that special birthday, anniversary, or holiday feast? Pesteh is conveniently located in Ajax, and I am sure that you will not be disappointed. In fact, quite the reverse! Now I know where I will get my dessert for the next special-occasion event!

I had seen on instagram a few friends that had gone to Cocoa Berry and decided to check it out, as it's actually pretty close to me. I called the owner Channel during the week to pick up cupcakes for Saturday of the same week. She answered right away and was ready to take my order. She offered me alternatives to work with our budget, and even went out to the stag shop to really make them bachelorette worthy. They were ready and boxed for me on Saturday afternoon to pick up, even though I was running late. There is ample amount of underground parking available. They also have other items that you can get like jerk chicken! I am going to have to come back for that. The cupcakes were jumbo and frosted with goodness. It was moist and not overly sweet. My girlfriend loves vanilla cupcakes, and as do I, and it was made to perfection. The toppers were a great touch as she printed out bachelorette themed prints, as well as the bride to be's event logo, which she loved. Very reasonably priced and great response time. Will be coming back!

Tip: What you see when you are ordering through the Tim Hortons app may not be accurate. I ordered…read morea blueberry lemon tart through it and found out that it wasn't available upon picking up my order. I had a deal to get an iced coffee for $1 at Tim Hortons. I had completed a survey and got this deal as a thank-you gesture. It was time to redeem it. Last Saturday, I had finished eating lunch at Swiss Chalet. Across from it was this Tim Hortons, which is a combo store with Wendy's. I pulled out my Timmy's app and ordered these items: - Medium iced coffee - Blueberry lemon tart - Chocolate toasted coconut donut - Honey crueller donut I paid through the app using my Tims Card. I got a gift card online, so it came in handy. I had no issues driving across the street and heading to the drive-thru. It's rather scenic with trees and grass. At the order area, I let the woman know on the other end that I had an order under my name. She was pleasant and said that I could head up to the window. I got a man at the window. He delivered the news that this store didn't have any blueberry lemon tart. Bummer. He asked if I wanted anything else. I don't like on-the-spot swaps when I don't know the menu well enough to know if the swap is worth what I had paid for. I'm not a regular Timmy's customer. I only know the prices of what I generally order when I'm here now and again. I also wanted the blueberry lemon tart to try, so it was disappointing to not get what I had paid for. I was annoyed for a bunch of reasons. Shouldn't an app like Timmy's account for inventory? I asked that question and he said that staff were "too busy" to update whether it was available. I get being busy. However, you are also promoting an item through your app that you can purchase, but you are misleading the purchaser of actually receiving it. He offered me the custard tart. I've had it before. I eventually chose it, which I found out after reviewing the menu at home that it was the same price as the lemon blueberry tart that I wanted. Good move there. He suggested getting a muffin. The strawberry cheesecake-filled muffin was ten cents more than my original item. I wouldn't have know that fact. I wasn't feeling getting a muffin with cheesecake filling. He then offered a donut. I had just bought two. Each one was $1.79, so I would have been ripped off if I had got one in lieu of the tart. I actually knew the price of a donut. I asked if I could get a refund. Even though I paid with a Tims Card, the refund would go on a credit card instead. Such a pain. Why can't it be loaded on a Tims Card and hope that it's far more automatic than waiting days for a credit to appear on a credit card? That's why I got the custard tart. It should not be so difficult to get a refund. Frankly, I shouldn't have been in this situation. If the app accurately told me that this store was out of blueberry lemon tarts, I wouldn't have ordered one. It's also why my rating is three stars. The information that I got to purchase a lemon blueberry tart was inaccurate. I was disappointed that I didn't get what I had wanted. Getting a refund on a credit card that I didn't use instead of on my Tims Card, which was the payment method that I did use, was more complicated than it should have been. I will say that service was great and this man apologized for not being delighted with my order. I grabbed my items and drove off. I had my iced coffee as I drove off. It was yummy and cold. I do like an iced coffee at a cheap price. I had the honey crueller when I was parked. It's my favourite donut. This one was light and airy. It had icing sugar, but it wasn't as sweet as it generally is. I did not get any napkins. Luckily, I had some in my card. Napkins are necessary when you are eating sugary, messy donuts. This place has both the coconut toasted and chocolate coconut toasted donuts. I went with the latter. Both donuts are so good. I would have been crushed if this chocolate coconut toasted donut was also unavailable. I loved this donut. It's my comfort cakey donut. It's perfect. Sadly, it's not always on the menu. When I do spot it, I must get one. I had the custard tart when I got home. It tastes better when you heat it up. I liked the flakiness. It is on the sweeter side, though. One of these days, I'll get a blueberry lemon tart. I don't trust what I see on the app for this location. It's best to simply order it at the store to figure out whether it's in stock and then pay. I don't know why ... perhaps just because someone else made it?! If you can get there before 7:55, you will not likely face much of a queue to get in. After that, cars are sometimes lined up down the street! Service is fast, friendly and efficient. And you can fuel up on gas after, if need be. It gets busy at peak hours, but just get going a few minutes earlier, and you will have your tea/coffee and possibly a treat in no time. And they will wish you a good day as you leave, and sound sincere about it too! The easiest way to get there is to drive up the side street right beside it, and join the line. You may have to make a sharp turn. That is the only inconvenience. But the friendly staff makes up for it. In addition, I recommend their savory pies - I prefer savoury to sweet, generally, and on a sluggish morning, that and a warm beverage will start your engine. The nearby gas station will start your car!
