Turkish food is delightful. Visiting Turkey is an unforgettable experience - and having to leave the country is literally painful. With such a rich culture, the Turks certainly aren't slouches when it comes to food. So, on the last night of my Turkish journey, I was not going to compromise when it came to my final meal . I wanted some of the very best food that Istanbul had to offer. I needed a meal fit for a sultan, and Mozaik Restaurant gave it to me.
I'm not going to be shy: I learned about Mozaik Restaurant through my travel book. It came highly recommended, and since I preferred to remain in Sultanahmet, this restaurant won the pleasure of my business. Once I arrived, I immediately noted that the staff was very attentive to the needs of their customers. Since I arrived late, I had my pick of seating options. As a side note, I was also given the option of eating on a rooftop terrace, which actually belongs to the restaurant next door. Since there wasn't much of a view, I chose to sit on the (heated) patio that provided a better chance to people watch.
The menu at Mozaik is extensive, and it features many less common dishes from Anatolia. I was in the mood to have a substantial amount of grub. Since I was traveling solo, my server allowed me to order a half-portion of the Chef's Mixed Grill, which is usually made for two. I was certainly glad that this arrangement was made, as it was an excellent choice. The dish contained various grilled meats such as chicken, several selections of beef, and minced meat (beef and lamb) kebap. The minced meat kebap was the some of the best I had while in Turkey. Prior to the meal, I received a very nice portion of pide and hummus. Mozaik's style of pide was the best I have tasted (as it is much thicker than offered by other restaurants).
If you find yourself in Istanbul, it is unlikely that you will not stop in Sultanahmet. With all of the sightseeing, you're bound to work up quite an appetite. So, once you're there, be sure to check out Mozaik Restaurant! read more
