Truth time: I stalked this property for two months before booking our stay. I saw that the Moxy would open in October of 2019, and kept an eye on the website to check prices. It turned out to be cheaper than the hotel I'd originally booked, and since I could earn nights by staying here, I canceled the other reservation and confirmed a room here.
Here are a few tips for those traveling in, which I hope you find helpful.
- If you're coming from the airport, get a train ticket and hop on the S-8 S Bahn train from Flughafen Munchen to Ostbahnhof (Munich East train station). You can take the S1 train, as well, it'll just take you longer
- Once you exit the train at Ostbahnhof, go down the stairs and head in the direction of the Friedenstraße exit. You'll see signs along the walls to guide you
- Go up the stairs at the Friedenstraße exit. Once on the street, you'll see a car dealership in front of you (it was a Mazda dealership in December of 2019)
- Cross the street towards the dealership, and turn left
- Cross the street again at that corner (onto Haager Straße), and turn right
- Walk down Haager Straße. You'll pass a few car dealerships, a taxi company, a restaurant (Palette in December 2019) and a Whole Foods-type grocery store.
- Go past the first hotel entrance you see on the left - it's the Residence Inn, and it's the only signage you'll see at that point
- Round the corner, pass the staircase and enter the ground-level entrance for Moxy. Take the elevator up to the lobby level to check in
I'm not gonna lie - it felt like a long walk when we arrived. It was after 8 pm, it was dark, we were hauling a hundred bags and we were tired. My husband was sure we'd taken a wrong turn, and we did end up going through the Residence Inn lobby before seeing the entrance to the Moxy across the way. But once you get the hang of it, you'll see it's not so far from the train station, which is an easy walk.
Check in was quick and easy, which was nice, as I'd mentioned we were jetlagged at that point. Our room was on the 4th floor, and we liked the feel of it and the building itself. It's definitely more of a "younger" hotel, not as tight as a traditional Marriott property. The walls were concrete, which made it much more quiet and peaceful. The toiletries were in bright pink bottles, the hair dryer was also bright pink, there was no closet or wardrobe to speak of, and there was no phone in the room.
We did go down to the bar once during our stay, on our first night, actually. We'd planned on grabbing a few snacks, and maybe some beers to take back to the room. Instead, we ended up staying at the bar, chatting with Thomas, for almost 3 hours.
We started with nachos (who goes to Munich and orders nachos, for crying out loud?), and soon added the meat lover's flatbread and the sausage and sauerkraut. We needed food to soak up the many beers and "welcome drinks" we had while sitting there.
We were there for five nights, and we were very comfortable. The air didn't work, but we were able to pop open part of the window to allow cool fresh air in. It's quiet enough in that neighborhood that we didn't have to worry about loud cars, loud people or anything else while trying to sleep.
It's convenient to the train station, which is also handy in that almost every train headed west got us to Marienplatz, so we rarely had to wait for a train. Definitely would recommend, and would stay here again in the future. read more
