I've…read morebeen regularly training here for 7 years and I don't think I would have persisted in this life-changing routine were it not for all of the beautiful things mentioned in these reviews - clean, well managed, not crowded so you can focus on you, with all the nicely maintained equipment you'd ever need - as well as the man who oversees it all: my trainer, Lauro. There are many reasons to choose a one-on-one training facility: the intense personal focus, tailored sessions and modifications as needed, general chain-gym-phobia and more. But what happens when your trainer moves on? After this happened to me twice, Lauro took care of me. He understood what I needed and was unafraid, despite his busy schedule, to take me on himself. With the passage of time, major life and physical events have required modifications of routine to get me back on track. Lauro listens, understands, and respects this and has the tools and decades of experience that adapt to any situation. He's not about to abandon me when I need my session time the most, and accordingly I have felt strength and self-confidence return in my couple of years training with him. He's the right combination of amazingly strong and psychically supportive and I have been fortunate to partner with him. In that sense, though a one-on-one training facility, Sessions itself has become a family and a key part of my community of support.

After finishing 20 sessions with Anthony over the course of 4 months I now weigh in at a lean 142 lbs with 18% body fat and dropping. I can't speak for the other trainers at Sessions, but If you are able to work with Anthony you will be in good hands! From the get go Anthony made a strong effort to understand my current health situation and my fitness goals and tailored my workouts accordingly. He was always sure to keep the workouts varied, interesting, and appropriate for my fitness level. He also kept feeding me useful fitness and nutrition tips throughout so that I was constantly learning. The facility itself is very nice. It is always spotlessly clean, has sufficient lockers/restrooms/showers and has a wide array of workout equipment that are all in great condition. The center was rarely crowded when I was there, but even if there were other people the trainers are careful to coordinate so that you will always get a great workout in. While personal training is never cheap, Anthony's prices are very competitive. When I look at my before and after photos there is not a doubt in my mind that it was one of the best investments I've ever made. If you're looking to get into better shape (it's never too late!) you can't go wrong here.

He was my personal trainer in Muay Thai, Mixed Martial Arts, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and wrestling for an entire year and thanks to him I was in the best shape of my life both physically and mentally. Josh has the technique and work ethic of a UFC fighter but he is the most approachable, laid back person. We both happened to move back to the Bay Area a couple years ago and when I heard about Bof5s I was stoked! I had been training indoors at my fight gym for so long that the sound of taking advantage of SF's beautiful outdoors was a welcome change. There definitely are not enough organized outdoor activities in SF and the ones that do exist have that rigid bootcamp format and a ridiculous drop-in fee. The fact that Bof5s is on the weekends (both Saturdays and Sundays) worked perfectly around my work schedule, there isn't a hefty membership, and it was such a refreshing way to meet people (an alternative to the drinking scene, imagine that!). To join, you don't need to be head to toe in Lululemon and you don't even need to consider yourself to be "in shape." Check it out if you simply want a refreshing change of pace in your work out routine, meet like-minded people, and breathe in the eucalyptus trees in the great outdoors one Sunday before you head to brunch. I had honestly thought I was a lost cause but decided to give the gym a try after a referral from a friend. After working with Julian for a few weeks, I had amazing results! I could do higher intensity workouts for longer durations and not deal with any of my previous problems. His approach is scientific and his observation skills are top notch. All J Bodyworks trainers I've used are universally excellent in their knowledge and approach to the body, whether my goals were fitness, body composition, or injury recovery (often multiple at same time). They are pragmatic in approach, motivating in both their words and belief in what I can actually do (vs. what I can do), and encyclopedic in body mechanics AND how to translate that knowledge into instruction and training. Right from the start, Todd was extremely prompt with his communication and we were scheduled for a free assessment within a couple of days. He even set me up with a week-long pass to the gym Todd used the assessment to understand my physical state, my flexibility, movement issues, etc by having me do a couple of reps of a host of exercises. At the end of the session, we discussed what a training plan would look like. What I really liked about his training program was that he was willing to work around my constraints. I wanted to work with a trainer just once a week and he was willing to give me structure homework routines to do on my own on the other days. He also used MyFitnessPal to keep a track of diet and make suggestions. After the session, he was great about following up and answering any questions that I had. Overall, I had a great experience with Todd and I would highly recommend considering him if you're in the market for a personal trainer.

His marketing as a kettlebell instructor unfortunately undersells his areas of expertise and what he is capable of doing for you. Kettlebells are merely a tool in his toolbelt for fitness and health. Yes, he is an incredible kettlebell instructor, but he has so much more to offer. He can and will tailor a custom program to meet your goals, with or without a focus on kettlebells. His approach and abilities hit all the buzzwords of the day - healthspan, longevity, mobility, flexibility, VO2 max, strength and resistance training, functional fitness and movement patterns, and so on, beyond whatever "kettlebells" might bring to mind. I do also want to emphasize what many reviews mention: Marty's knowledge and eye for form surpasses what I've experienced from coaches and trainers across different disciplines and sports. It's just incredible. He will make sure you are completing movements in a way that will keep you safe from injury, and will not let you proceed until you've met that bar. And he will explain it all to you, so you also learn along in the process. I'm sure for some it might feel slow and occasionally frustrating, but it's essential for staying injury free, maximizing your potential, and improving your form and body mechanics beyond exercise and into your day-to-day life. He is strict and, as some other reviews mention, "old school" - he's not going to coddle you. This comes from a place of care. If you don't follow his guidance, you won't meet the goals you set out aiming to achieve. He will know it, and he will let you know it. If you're not willing to dedicate a couple hours a week to exercise for your health and goals, he may not be the best fit for you. If his style and approach ends up being a fit for you, he will take you to the next level.

He's helped me correct the need to wear orthotics due to foot overpronation by strengthening my lower leg muscles. I've also corrected lower back and elbow pain through the use of kettlebells and Indian clubs. Marty will design a custom program for you and your needs. It won't be a quick fix, but is a long term relationship that will help you feel stronger and more in tune with how your body is feeling.
