Mercury News commits FRAUD! BEWARE!!!!…read more Sometime last year a guy who claimed to be in college came to my house to sell me the Mercury News. He told me it would help with his college cost. I told him I was not interested. Then he asked me for my number and told he he can just show his boss that he is actually trying to sell papers and at least he will be getting some credit. Lapse of judgment, I gave him my number. To make a long story short, our apt building started to receive the paper once a week. Then I get a renewal invoice from Mercury News. I called the Mercury Newspaper and found out a email was created, start a new subscription, an email that I NEVER CREATED!!!! Furious, I told the rep that this is fraud and identity theft. furthermore, I wanted a email confirmation from them stating they closed the account and what actions do they plan to take on this individual. They stated they will get back to me in 2 days. We will see.

The newsagent sells a vast range of newspapers and magazines, pretty much anything you can think of! They also sell a decent range of cards, soft drinks, gifts, confectionery, local maps (town plans), etc. The staff are friendly and efficient, so although Mercury News is always busy, there's never much of a queue. The Post Office is a fairly sizeable branch situated at the back of the shop. They do all the jobs you expect a post office to do, posting parcels, car tax, premium bonds, passports etc, and the staff are much like in the newsagent, good natured, but efficient. The combination of the two businesses makes Mercury News a very useful shop!

This…read moremorning I made a remark to the man serving at the counter who looked unusually tired, it was just gone 8.00 am so I remarked in what I thought was a humourous tone "Good morning you look how I feel" it was intended as an engaging socially humerous greeting. I was met with a lecture about how not to be judgemental - he was clearly very offended by my remark. I immediately appologised unconditionally saying I was just trying to be humerous, his response was to continue to give me a lecture on being none judgemental. He went one to say he did not like customers remarking to him that he should smile more (I have never said that to him thank goodness). The service is always pretty quick even when busy but this is not the sort of customer experience I expected from who I believe is the owner or manager of the business. When I was in retail it was standard to greet customers with a smile not to make them feel they have been offensive when no offence or judgement was intended. I am grateful there was not a queue behind me, he wasn't playing to an audience. I consider myself an empathetic sensitive self-aware person sadly my response will be to avoid using that particular Post Office whenever possible in the future.

Stood waiting whilst…read morestaff had long conversations with each other and the queue got longer n longer then one of staff just went off to get a roll to eat ! Old people stood in the queue waited at least 15 minutes to get a parcel sent. When I finally got to the counter no apology then made two errors. Totally incompetent. People wonder why post offices are closing down!!

Ashby post office is in the mercury newshop in market street…read more its at the back of the shop on the right hand side. there is no post box outside but if you want to post a letter then you can cross the road and post one at the sorting office. there us hardly any queues and if you have a parcel delivered by parcelforce and live in Ashby and your not in then it will be left here for you to collect. i did this on Thursday when i got my steam iron. u can do your car tax here this was on a poster on the wall there. friendly service with a smile i like to add .
