Unlike other downtown Athens antiques stores, this one does not feature many hand-painted local pieces and does not include 1818 Farms from Mooresville items (but you can get an edited selection of 1818 items across the street at U G White). My sister and I went because she wanted a painting of a landmark in Paris, that was done on silk. It was actually well done, and the sheen of the silk was beautiful in that it glistened! I had never seen a painting done on silk before. It was nicely framed, and I thought, a good value at $40.00. She also bought a set of 3 individual crocks her friend loved when they previously visited. They totaled ~ $34.00. This is a nice antiques store with a friendly staff and a fun place to browse in downtown Athens.

With that said, they have some gorgeous pieces that are not overpriced--they're rare, they're in extremely good condition, etc. Think original paintings, 18th century furniture (in immaculate condition), an impressive array of silver serving pieces, gobs--and I do mean gobs--of pearls and other estate jewelry, etc. The owners are super friendly, chic without being pretentious, knowledgeable without condescension, and the shop is gorgeous. When we were there a lovely dog was roaming about, too (I loved that, you might not). Unless you have a high limit on your Amex, likely just a window shopping excursion, but a delightful one nonetheless.

The vendor of the dress shop will help with corset sizing and try ons during certain days of the week. The last time I visited, I looked in the dress room for a split second because I was familiar with her items and continued my shopping. When I left to the other antique store a few doors down, it seemed she had followed me into the store to give me a business card. The stuff is relatively cheap, but there isn't a lot of good quality items here and it seemed dirty in here. Beware of Double Charges at This Store I made a purchase on…read moreApril 25th, and the register was not working correctly. The cashier asked me to move to another register. Before doing so, I specifically asked if my card would be charged twice, and I was assured it would not. Unfortunately, I later discovered that I was charged twice for the same items. When I brought this to the store's attention, they refused to issue a refund and even went as far as to justify the duplicate charge to my credit card company. Only one of the transactions has a signature, and the second charge appears under a different system ("SQ Southeastern Salvage"), which raises additional concerns. I spoke with someone who identified themselves as the store manager, but they insisted both charges were valid. This has been extremely frustrating and disappointing. I strongly encourage others to carefully monitor their receipts and credit card statements when shopping here.
