The food was great especially the roast beef . The train itself was very comfortable and the scenery was pretty. It's a must do if you are passing through West Virginia. It is a beautiful 100 year old dining car with tables right at the huge picture windows and big comfy movable chairs. It has a private restroom as well. Lunch was served in the parlor car (no need to wobble your way to another car) on the way up to the falls, and was a cold buffet of roast beef, pastrami, cheeses, tomatoes, lettuce, garden salad, grilled chicken for the salad, potato salad, rolls, and drinks. All of this was followed up with a delicious piece of pie and a glass of wine on our way back down to Elkins. The Parlor Car host, Chase, was personable, attentive, and overall outstanding! The scenery was beautiful and High Falls are quite spectacular. Mary, the historian, did a wonderful job telling us all about the history of the train, the towns, and the landmarks along the ride. I would 100% recommend this trip if you find yourself near Elkins, WV.

Very deceptive. No front desk. No check in. More like a VRBO or Air B & B apartment check in. Just…read moretexts/emails a code. You need to park several store fronts away and then the room #102--was actually several (20) steep stairs up from the ground floor. All of this would have been fine but it's misleadingly advertised as a typical inn. I booked this for my parents in their mid 80s. Totally inappropriate and inconvenient for them. No one to check them in. Nowhere close to park. No one to help with a code. No one to help take suitcases up and down a flight of stairs on the second floor advertised as the first floor. They needed to hold on to the railing with one hand and hold their luggage with the other while they painstakingly made multiple trips. Not fun or practical when you are older and tired. Very disappointing. People think it's cheap compared to Greenbrier (which it is) but it isn't a comfortable stay. There are no other hotels very near there so you are kinda stuck.

Our first visit was in room 101 and this time around, we are in 102. Room 102 is much bigger but both rooms are spacious. 101 can be loud because it's right above the restaurant but it's not too bad. There is plenty of parking and the rooms are easy to access. If you are planning to arrive late, give the restaurant a call so that they can give you the codes. We've had easy check ins both times and have never had any issues. There are plenty of amenities and the kitchen has what you need if you're staying for awhile. Both times we've been here, we have only stayed the night, so we never needed to use the kitchen except for the refrigerator. This is a great place to stay if you're visiting the Greenbrier which is fairly close. This is definitely our trusty inn and will always come back!
