Mountain Top is at the TOP of my liquor store choices. Its located at the TOP of Southington mountain right on Meriden Rd on the Wolcott/Waterbury line. The building is large so they have plenty of space for plenty of product. They offer one of the biggest selections of craft beers in the area. That includes Shebeens, Thimble Island, Stony Creek, Two Roads, Nebco and more! I have 3 liquor stores closer to my house and I will personally drive the extra 7 minutes to go to Mountain Top. The prices are competitive too, even with the increase of business due to COVID (no noticeable price increases). The staff is always very helpful. One time I had a housewarming party and bought a bunch of different beers they even gave me a deal for how many I was buying. Much appreciated. I never need to try to find something because the store is setup very clear and logical. Seasonal displays that I've boughten from have always been well stocked and never empty. I highly recommend Mountain Top to anyone and everyone! Put them at the TOP of your local liquor store list. read more

Pretty decent store considering the competition from Total Wine and Costco. They always have staff on hand ready to help you find or guide what you are looking for. Huge parking lot with plenty of parking. read more

Fantastic variety and selection. The owner carries some alcohol that I can't find anywhere else locally, and the only liquor store where I can find the larger bottle of my favorite, Wildmoon cucumber. The owner is present every single time I go in there, and he is very attentive, friendly, and helpful. Unlike other liquor stores where I wander around trying to find something in particular that I'm looking for, I never have to worry about that there. I came here on Easter to grab something quick before dinner. Most other liquor stores were closed on Easter day or at least had shortened hours. This location however was open as long as they could be, until 5pm. It's a huge location and has plenty of obscure stuff. The staff here was helpful and polite and ensured I had everything I needed. I would definitely return because of the large selection and the staff was helpful. A younger guy talked with me and was able to recommend a beer I hadn't tried before and I ended up enjoying it. read more

I've been a regular customer for years. Their selection continues to increase and if you can't find what you're looking for the friendly, helpful staff will point it out to you or look it up on their computer and offer to order it for you. They are all very nice and they make great recommendations. Inside the store and the Parking lot are kept clean, especially in bad weather. Their prices are at least reasonable if not better than average. They also feature tastings from time to time, which I appreciate before I invest in something new to try. This was my go to stop for craft beer for many years, and even after it changed ownership it was still a friendly and well stocked establishment, and although craft beer options have actually increased here, I will not be returning. The problem lies in some of the employees, specifically the beer specialist that now works there. Aside from being very sloppily dressed, he was condescending and rude to both me and his fellow employees. In the few minutes I was in there he spoke down to me in an insulting way, threw a box at the face of one of the employees who has worked there for years and has always been incredibly nice and then laughed about it with the other workers while I was waiting in line. When he saw what I was buying, he tried to "one up me" by casually mentioning that he had a can of this particular imperial IPA "aging in his fridge". Anyone with a tertiary knowledge of craft beer knows how silly that sentence sounds, so obviously he has no business recommending or selling beer to the public and he certainly has no business operating with the attitude that he does. The bottom line is there are many stores that sell what Mountain Top does and I can't see a single reason why I would ever go back. read more

I had to go to Mountain Top Liquors today to stock up for an upcoming party...that happens to be tomorrow. Everybody in the store was beyond helpful in finding specific liquors that I was looking for. Unfortunately, they did not have a rum that I needed so I had to go to another store, even though they offered to get it for me ASAP (my schedule does not permit me to get there before the party). However, after visiting the other store, I realized that Mountain Top is a cut above the rest. The customer service I received and the knowledge of the workers was incomparable to any store I've ever been to. I will most definitely be back here! read more
