Typically I went to The Water Store until…read moretheir prices got out of hand, then have been going to either grocery stores (Safeway, Times) or Walmart for drinking water. Store is on Alamaha a block or so behind the Minit Stop on your left. Parking is a limited at the front but there's lots of parking along the side of the driveway and behind the building. Don't let it deter you. I was happy to see a few things. First, their prices are reasonable. I want to say maybe $0.65 a gallon for filtered drinking water. They also have alkaline available. Second, the store is well staffed and maintained. Plenty of stations, all were clean, water on the floor was promptly mopped up with wet floor signs, cashiers were friendly and fast. Finally, I always enjoy when they have carts available to wheel your jugs to your car and they had several. If you're into merchandise, they sell water jugs and tshirts too. I will probably be going here from now on for a few reasons. First, I don't have to guess if the machine is gonna be working. It's faucets and they all work great. Both Walmart machines weren't accepting any bills today. Second, it's clean. One time I used a machine at Times in Kihei and there was vomit in the drain (probably a nearby local alcoholic unhoused person threw up in it; I reported it to the owner but was not contacted back or thanked). I remember the last time I contacted this company about their water machine in Kihei taking a dollar of mine, the owner quickly called me back, apologized and Venmo'd me the amount I lost. Their owners care about the customer experience. Finally, as stated before, the prices are reasonable. The Water Store at Maui Lani last I went was charging nearly $18 to fill three 5 gallon jugs. I'm glad this company hasn't gouged the prices that badly. Keep up the great work, Island!

I hired Allen's Plumbing because I had friends who worked for them in the past and I wanted to give…read morebusiness to a longtime local company. I hoped for competent workmanship and a reasonable price for replacing an older solar water heater with a new electric water heater. I was also glad that I even found a 100 dollar off coupon for a new water heater that Allen's Plumbing offered on their website. Scheduling was an issue as I was forwarded from an Oahu call center to a Maui local scheduling number and was forwarded again to a department that would need to estimate my job. During each of these stages I thought communication was adequate and I was told my online coupon for $100 would be honored. Work was planned and completed on the date it was scheduled. No real surprises. I did ask and paid extra for installing 2 owner provided fixtures. These were installed and worked without issue. A day or so after I was charged for the initial job and extra work I asked for and was emailed a receipt. When I checked on the receipt I found I was not credited for the $100 coupon. I then called the same Maui local scheduling number and asked about the coupon. I was told they did not recall accepting the coupon for this job. I gave them a few weeks to rectify this issue as a business that should obviously honor coupons they offer and even accepted prior to starting a job. This has not happened. I can't give a high rating because of this but if you want to continue to hire them to do competent workmanship then you will get what you pay for. A pleasant surprise today. After a few weeks of no response to an issue on coupon for $100, I received a response from the owner. He seemed very straightforward and addressed the issue with a refund. I understand businesses can get busy and may not always get back to you but it was nice that the owner stepped up to clear this up once he was aware of it. Customer service and honest business practices are still alive and well. This gives me confidence to revise my review and recommend this business for this small gesture that really tells a lot about the plumbing company you may hire in the future.

Background: There was an existing 35-year-old 'SolaHart' brand solar hot water heater on my Oahu…read morehome roof and it worked perfectly although it was older. Then I noticed it was slowly leaking. My trusted plumber had a look and it was the solar unit leaking and not the plumbing. It needed to be replaced. A split solar hot water heater would be $12k to 14k. Sun King: So a google search told me that Maui based 'Sun King' was the 'SolaHart' company in Hawaii. I gave them a call. They even had the records on the old unit. A new replacement SolaHart unit would be about $9k installed. So I received a quote and all the information about payment, installation scheduling, coordination with my roofing company as the roof needed replacement first. Like any solar system there is a time delay in installation due to ordering and scheduling. It is not like replacing a standard home hot water heater. But it's leaking now: Well these guys deal with this all the time. So they sent over Paul to assess the situation first hand and install a temporary electric hot water heater and disconnect the leaking unit. That didn't work out, but everything else was planned out and installation scheduled for about a month later after the roof was completed. The catch was that there would be no hot water for about a week while the roof work was ongoing. The old unit would have to be removed while the roof was replaced...so no hot water. Anyway eventually Paul and his experienced crew of plumbers, electricians and installers found a way to hook up and wire the temporary heater. It saved us from a week of cold showers. Yes!!! Satisfaction: 5 Stars. While home repairs, remodeling, renovation, on older homes don't always go smoothly. Everything worked out in the end. Bumps in the road may happen but it is their ability to deal with imperfect situations that are the key. Personally, I favor the simple SolaHart type of passive system (vs. the split system) because of the price and reliability. Remember the first one lasted 35 years. Google SolaHart for information. It was bolted securely to the wood rafters. Maui Headquarters and Tax credits: Despite being headquartered on Maui they do travel to other islands. They had their own crew and truck plus 2 other trucks showed up. Somehow they had the ability to provide full services on Oahu. The office also assisted in providing information on tax credits. Very helpful because this clearly lowers the actual cost. Lyn from the front office, Paul, and each and every technician that I encountered was professional and pleasant.
