The office staff and river guides provided me the best experience I could've hoped for. The guides are knowledgeable, helpful, and so fun to be around, and the food they cook is amazing. Overnight rafting trips can be stressful if you don't know what you're doing, but the guidance I received about living in the wilderness (even for just a few days) was crucial. The guides encouraged us to connect with others on the trip, and everyone grew to love each other. There's no replacement for having a belly full of delicious food, sitting under the stars after a day of whitewater excitement, telling stories and singing songs with people you just met but feel like you've known forever. Canyon Rio takes care of everything so you can truly relax in moments like this. Thank you so much!

Also they gave us a bunch of free swag :)

Oak Creek Canyon Vista Overlook sits right at that transition point where the road climbs and the…read morelandscape suddenly opens up. You're driving, maybe half paying attention, and then it hits you. You pull over almost on instinct. This isn't a long hike or a full-day commitment. It's immediate. You step out, walk a few yards, and the entire canyon drops away in front of you. Oak Creek Canyon stretches out below like a living map, winding through layers of red rock, green patches of forest, and shadowed cuts that shift depending on the time of day. The elevation here gives you a different perspective than what you get down inside Sedona. You're not surrounded by the formations. You're above them, looking out across the whole system. It changes how you read the landscape. You start to see how everything connects. The road threading through the canyon, the way the rock walls rise and fall, the contrast between desert and greenery that somehow coexist in the same frame. The light does a lot of the work here. Early morning is sharp and clean, pulling out detail and texture. Midday flattens things a bit, still impressive but less dramatic. Late afternoon is where it really settles in. The sun drops, shadows stretch across the canyon, and the reds deepen into something richer. It's the kind of view that keeps evolving the longer you stand there. There's usually a steady flow of people, but it never feels overwhelming. The overlook is wide enough that you can find your own space, lean against the railing, and just take it in without feeling rushed. There's a calm to it, even with others around. What I like most is how effortless it is. No planning, no gear, no commitment beyond pulling off the road. And yet the payoff feels like something you had to work for. It delivers that sense of scale Sedona is known for, but in a way that's accessible to anyone who shows up. You don't stay for hours, but you don't leave right away either. You take a few photos, then a few more, then you stop taking them altogether because you realize it doesn't translate. Some places are like that. Five stars, easy. It's one of those stops that turns a drive into something you remember.

The parking was a bit jammed on a Saturday, getting here early might avoid this. We will be back.

The trail is in its best shape from April until November, but we've gone there all times of the year and see other hikers, horses and mountain bikers, The hike will bring you through forested Meadows and then around the east slopes of Little Elden Mountain. The route will lead you by two springs, Sandy Seep and the larger more developed, Elden Springs, near the end of the route! This hike is part of the Arizona National Scenic Trail (AZT), A route stretching lengthwise more than 800 miles through the state from Utah to Mexico! Let's not forget the beautiful sunsets that I've snapped a couple of pics of here! We also see tons of wildlife here from small animals to elk, snakes, horny toads, lizards and tarantulas! I like its proximity to home, ease for vehicles to access and our dogs love it here! We never see too many people around, so it's a peaceful spot!

However the guide was very hard to understand and his lack of knowledge about flaura and fauna was shocking given how much the trip cost. The pre recorded audio was ok, but a real guide would have customized the trip to the time of year and the specific flowers in bloom and perhaps identified scat and tracks or otherwise found ways to share some passion for the canyon. There was also a mixup regarding the hike so I didn't get to do the one thing I was looking forward to most. Overall I would not recommend.

I chose this only because it was the top result in the google search I made. Instead of the view of the grand canyon, we got to spend over seven hours in a smaller bus, with no air conditioning for much of the time captive inside on a very hot day. Much of the tour time was spent in construction traffic on the road, and on a very dusty bumpy dirt road. There was not much of a view where we were, and the water was very muddy and dirty, compared to other locations higher up the river in the canyon, which of course is out of the control of operators. This tour was twice the money as other options, but I felt we got much less than other tours. Other tour reviews rave about the great food, but in this case, we got a subway box meal. Our driver left for a section of the tour when we got to the river, causing us to be hassled by a local ranger, who wanted to know who was on the tour and to see our permit. I was not able to provide the permit for our tour bus, and he stayed by my child until we could find the driver who had the permit. We never went to the Grand Canyon Park, or the overlook, and this tour wasted our entire day on our limited vacation. Unfortunately, our efforts to get into the park the next day were thwarted by very heavy weather, and so we will have to actually see the grand canyon another time a few years from now. This tour went through the town of Seligman, an interesting and historical section of old Route 66, and the inspiration for the Disney movie "Cars", but did not even stop there. We saw other tour buses let people out for pictures and to walk around, but not this tour. Very disappointed. I cannot imagine who this tour is designed for, but I would not recommend it to anyone.
