Brought a large cow elk, about 300 pounds, in to be processed, when I went to pick it up I had less than a hundred pounds of meat. Got about 40 pounds of burger and some jerky and elk sticks. I've gotten more meat off of a deer! After charging me $620 to process, they brought out two boxes of meat! The last elk I got was smaller than this one and I got 3x the meat. I wondered when a guy came in and brought elk meat when I was turning it in to be processed. Well, I guess they'll be making a killing selling my elk meat. Be warned!! I would not know how well they process because when I brought an Elk in they charged me to process and I asked them to ship. Normally shipping costs is around $500 to Florida by air. AFTER processing I was presented with a $1167. Bill to ship by truck. When I objected they took no responsibility. They referred me to Wild Game Trophy Shipping and I asked them to return the meat and I would arraign my own shipping. I was then informed that my meat was already in Texas. My only choice was to donate the meat and forfeit the processing cost. If you hunt around Craig either be prepared to take it with you or make sure you know the shipping cost before you let them process. read more

I received far less meat back then any elk I have processed myself. I only got 10 blackstrap steaks and should have got 35 or more. I believe I should've received another 70 to 100 pounds of meat from this elk. I know now how they do a two day turn around on processing . Not to mention other things that happened. They are very unorganized. read more

Their service there is terrible and the people at the front desk were rude to me. I brought a deer in there that I had got and wanted to get it mounted they say there complete cape is "taxidermy ready" but when I got home to bring it to my taxidermist the ears were not inside our and the lips were not split and the worst part is that they did not flesh the hide at all it was a very crude cape out that is most definitely not worth the bs 150$ they charge and they also lost my deer tag that I needed to leave the state. I had a group of guys with me as well that brought deer in to them and the amount of meat they received back was not right. One of the biggest body bucks that was killed and brought there only revived one box of meat back while one of the smaller body bucks got 3 boxes of meat which is insane and worrying if they are switching or mixing meat up with ones that could possibly contain CWD. Mountain meat packing processed a buffalo for me, it was vacuum sealed and the price was very reasonable. We are now nine months into eating the meat and it is the cleanest and best tasting meat my family has ever had from an animal I harvested and I have used many processors in all my years hunting. These guys are super helpful and efficient. We had an emergency last year; after packing out a moose my hubby had a high blood pressure incident that landed him in the hospital for 3 days. I had all the meat and was desperate to get that taken care of and stored so I could be with him. Mountain Meats staff accommodated our needs quickly and stored it until we could get back to pick it up a week later! They didn't even charge us for storage. We have used Mountain Meat to butcher the last 5 years. They are very efficient getting the meat processed and ready to go the next day! Our meat is tightly cryovaced and labeled for each cut. The owners are very friendly and go over and above to get your animal processed in a timely manner. They were gonna be closed on Sunday and the owner set a time to meet with us so we could leave out the next day. This is why I will always use MMP because they have incredible customer service! We had our half of a beef packaged here for the third year. This year, we opened up our steaks to realize they no longer wrap the meat in plastic, but only used butcher paper. Our steaks are already getting freezer burnt as they were very lazy in their packing. I'm not sure what changed in their practices, but we are now trying to figure out how we repackage our meat before it is all freezer burnt/ruined. Unacceptable and not impressed read more

we bought processed ground beef a year ago, it taste terrible we tried and tried to eat it but from the beginning terrible, it was suggested our freeze went out, no our freezer did not go out. Initially we called to let merchant know how terrible the meat was and not asking anything in return. The employee insisted they stood behind their product and manager out of town but he would call back. manager never called back. was convinced he would call back but never did and I called 2 weeks later no manager there . same employee suggested our freezer went out and totally different attitude was told to call back later in the day. what happened to us could happen to you. and this rating doesn't even deserve 1 star! read more

my son had his pig processed here, 1st, too expensive, it cost more than the pig was worth to have it killed and cut. All pork should be cut the day after it's killed, this was definitely not. 2nd and most disappointing is the sausage, the seasoning they use is the worst i have ever tasted, so much so, the sausage is inedible, all seasonings have too much garlic. Italian sausage was ruined by the copious amounts of garlic, and all sausage tasted just terrible by the brand of seasoning they use. 3rd, smoked bacon was marginal, the small packages of 6in long strips, and didn't get near enough bacon compared to the size of the pig, in fact, the pig was 300 pounds, which equates to 2 sides which should total 180 to 200 pounds. also, he got smoked hocks, what is that, he didn't order smoked hock, he's not going to use them, leading use to question, did he even get the right pig back? I am not being overly harsh, but i have owned my own processing plant in the midwest and left it to my brothers and family, and they still operate it to this day, so , i do know what i am talking about. but this colorado, so the bar is pretty low. read more

We were disappointed in our butcher. We had an elk processed here. Reviewing their website, it seems that they know what their doing. However, once we received our meat, we were not happy. All the meat is covered in elk hair. Including the ground elk! (And it wasn't that a few hairs made its way into the packaging, the hair was ground into/with the meat!) These folks put out the best cheddar jalapeno bratwurst I have had in ... well ... I think ever. Straight up, no condiments or bread necessary just hands down the best. We grill ours, but they come fully cooked and just need to be heated thru. Quick, easy and tasty. read more
