I love Mount Sinai... They came through when no one else could.
In 2020 I was diagnosed with a rare disease called cholesteatoma. You never heard of it...of course not... only 9 in 100,000 people have this and I'm one of the lucky ones. My internist found it on a fluke, and I actually thought the drs were just trying to bill my insurance.I never had any symptoms and it wasn't until surgeons started talking about multiple surgeries that I started to do some real research. . The first ENT didn't even know what it was, he had another doctor in the practice diagnose it and the specialist they sent me to said it was going to be 2-3 surgeries. I went to University of Miami and the doctor there, was the president of the American Neurotology Society. He wanted to do 4 surgeries. Now I was totally freaked so I started to google this every day for hours at a time. Mount Sinai came up claiming they were 98% successful with 1 surgery only and they were a leader with advanced technology. Well, no offense to anyone in Florida that's a no-brainer so I flew up to Mount Sinai. I met with a Neurotologist, Dr. Enrique Perez, who was professional, thorough, and understanding . He could see that I was scared and nervous and he took the time to answer all my questions with sincerity.. I knew I made the right decision.
My 1 surgery was successful, it was a little more complicated than expected, but we are now four years post surgery. I have not had any recurrence and I am now cleared for another year.
I go to Mount Sinai twice a year and the care here is so special. It's easy to schedule appointments on the app and you can always leave a message for the doctor and you will receive a response within 24 hours. Hopefully no one ever has to be diagnosed with Cholesteatoma but if you need any ENT issues this is definitely where you go. read more
