Oh Michigan - you do like your camping in the summer. We have fallen into the RV-5th wheel club…read moreourselves and love it. Especially when you find a campground like Soaring Eagle Hideaway. We saw a billboard for Sugarland playing at the casino, on our way up to Traverse City (another camping excursion). A quick mobile search and I also discovered the campgrounds. A little more per night for weekends and concert nights, but oh so worth it for the full hookups and services. You have to call to book a site but each site is a concert pad, with picnic table, grill and small fire pit with grate. Full hook ups include 30/50 amp service, sewer and water. Score!! Don't have to worry about quick showers or doing dishes. We could have stayed a week, but it was only three days and two nights. They have a very nice lake for campers and a big lake float for kids to jump. Kayaks and canoes to rent. A pavilion for gatherings, and even a community fire pit if campers want to get a jam session going. The casino shuttle is 24/7. It runs every 15 minutes to take you to the casino until 11pm, but will be available to bring you back to the campgrounds anytime - just call the number. We didn't have to worry about driving and parking on a Friday night (concert parking too). We were dropped and picked up at the door. Barely a wait on either trip. The Park has a small store with necessities and fun stuff. The shuttle will also take you to the water park but that is a separate charge (very kid-centric). Campers have comp use of the hotel pool and sauna; just check in at the desk and they can see your reservation at the campgrounds and give you a pass. LOVE LOVE LOVE - we will surely be back soon.

Sites are surrounded by mowed grass. Canoe, kayak, and paddle boat rentals are available on site, and no fishing license is needed. Clean restroom and shower facilities, and onsite laundry. Free WiFi available; we were surprised to find it was FAST and reliable! Hubby is retired military, and we were offered a 20% military discount. Will definitely return!

We stumbled upon this new campground while searching for a place to try out our new fishing rods…read morenear my parents up north. Here are my pros and cons: The Good: - Quiet: Being that it's newly reopened (formerly known as Secord Lake Campground), and that Secord Lake is a shell of what it used to be because of the dam breaks (as we later discovered), of the 52 sites available, we were 1 of 3 campers on the premesis on a WEEKEND! It was so great to actually hear the sounds of nature. - Spacious: Adding on to the above, if you like being able to spread out and not camp on top of other people, until this place grows over the years to come, you can bet on having at LEAST several spaces between you and other campers. - Pet-Friendly: Dogs are welcome! It's hard to find a campground that dogs are allowed, and with it being so quiet, it's pretty nice for dogs who tend to bark at passersby. - Amenities: Bathhouses are spacious and clean, there's a play set for kids, horseshoes to rent and play with, and cute camp store stocked with the essentials AND ice cream, and a dump station on site. The Bad: - The website is more than a little misleading. Though these things are all advertised as if they are on-site, there are no absolutely lake views from any of sites (ironic, considering the name), walking trails, fishing, boat rentals, etc. whatsoever. We specifically came to this campground to be able to go fishing, but not only is there no fishing spots at the campground, there os actually no public fishing spots on Secord Lake AT ALL (the few spots are now dried up from the dam break). Considering that fishing is listed as a campground amenity and included in the Lakeview Campground logo, we had every reason to think this was the place to go to try out our new gear. We were very wrong, and very disappointed. I will say, there are plenty of trail heads and ORV trails within 10 miles of the campground to go enjoy. If you're willing and able to rent a boat, there are spots on the Lake that do have fish biting, but they are only accessible by boat. The marina across the road had no day rentals. With all of that said, if you just want a quiet place to get away, let your kids run and play, and enjoy the sounds of nature with last-minute availability, definitely give this place a shot. The owner is really attentive and goes above and beyond. We ended up really enjoying our stay, even though it was nothing like we'd expected.

Pine Ridge R V Camp Ground - View from our window of the nearly empty campground

We've camped at Pine Ridge Campground for the past five years. Over that time, we've chosen to…read moreoverlook some ongoing issues -- including a strong and persistent natural gas smell, ant infestations, loud music from a nearby bar, and no real amenities for families. The playground is extremely outdated and rarely used -- it's telling that you almost never see kids riding bikes or playing in the park. Still, we returned each year, hoping for a peaceful stay. Unfortunately, this year changed everything. Managers Joe and Susan falsely accused us of having our dog off-leash (which he never was). We always keep him leashed and use an e-collar to help manage barking. Joe even admitted that no other campers had complained, and we've never had any dog-related issues at any other campground. Despite this, they continued circling our site in their golf cart, closely watching us, and bullying to the point of telling us we were no longer welcome--threatening to call the police for no valid reason. Joe even made a comment about noticing my dog was standing on our dinette table - so he was peering outside our window??? No wonder my dog barked at him. We closed all our shades the remainder of the weekend to avoid feeling like we were living in a fishbowl. This kind of targeting isn't new -- last year, Joe also rushed over in his golf cart to confront us about a visitor pass we had already paid for, showing a lack of trust and an overly aggressive approach. So yet another instance of over-the-top behavior that seems to define their management style. Additionally, communication at this campground is poor -- it's often hard to reach someone to even make a reservation, there's no automation and poor responsiveness. On what should have been a bustling, beautiful summer weekend, the park was nearly empty, which speaks volumes. After years of being respectful, loyal guests, we've decided it's time to move on. If you're looking for a welcoming, dog- or family-friendly campground with basic hospitality and amenities, we suggest looking elsewhere.

They said they asked when booking who will be there at time of arrival, to be fair. I probably didn't think twice because I've never heard of this in my lifetime. our friends got there after us so they consider them visitors and charged them an additional $60, even though I put 4 people as our reservation. When I spoke to the manager, I said so no one can have people meet up from different areas, or jobs, or days at your campground? She stated that's correct unless they arrive with you. In my 40 years of camping I've never heard of such an idiotic rule where people can't join you later and get a car pass. Due to this we will never camp here again, and quite frankly management didn't seem to care.
