This dental clinic is located in the basement of a brownstone. I came here after switching from another dentist near columbus circle. I decided I did not like my dentist after they made me come in for a second cleaning appointment not covered by my insurance and didnt bother to call me to inform me but instead waited for me to waste my time coming into their office.That and I did not particularly like the dentist or the staff. Dr. Syoum even does the cleaning himself, not by a dental hygenist. Explains things to you while he works, and shows you whats going on. Xray machine is more modern and takes a 360 degree film of your mouth, which is awesome! He has a basket of freebies at the desk with floss, toothpaste and toothbrushes. Apparently he had an office midtown years back but got smart and moved his clinic to the basement of the brownstone he owns. Stumbled upon Dr. Syoum when Hurricane Sandy forced me to cancel another appointment to fix a chipped tooth. Now I'll be going back every six months for a cleaning. I hate the dentist - but Dr. Syoum brings just the right mix of skill, compassion, and good humor to the experience. You really feel taken care of in his chair, both by him and his hygienist. Was going to wait until I left NYC to review Dr. Yohannes Syoum, but it's been a great 3 years so far with him, so I've decided it's time to share his practice with Yelp. Been coming here to Dr. Syoum since I've moved here, he's an experienced dentist, not out to make a buck, but rather to make sure your oral health is excellent. He's personable, makes time for you. Great team supporting him too, friendly receptionist, and kind hard-working dental hygienist. I've never found it hard to make an appointment here, and there is never a wait when I do get there. His office does everything from the insurance side of things, all I have to do is to make my co-pay and that's it. The practice is located at the bottom of a beautiful brownstone, feels very cozy and comfortable for a dental office. I see no reason why you shouldn't consider Dr. Syoum to be your dentist if you're in the UWS or Harlem areas. I'll miss coming here if I ever leave NYC! A very good friend recommended this practice for me so I was gong in with really high expectations. And guess what??? Dr. Syoum exceeded them. He's an EXCELLENT dentist that seems to really care about the health of your teeth and gums. He's extremely thorough and kind. I have had a chip in my front tooth for as long as I can remember. I have been looking all over Manhattan for a good and trusting dentist. I was a little spoiled by my former dentist but sadly he had to close his office. Dr. Syoum was the forth dentist I went to and I have to say I will stay with him as he is truly the character I was looking for in a dentist. State of the art clean office, friendly staff and the doctor takes the time to examine your teeth and recommend the best treatment together with you instead of just going for it without consultation. If he thinks there is a better doctor for a job (e.g. complicated root canal etc.) he doesn't have a problem recommending you to a specialist - which was a great, fast and satisfying experience without any pain. I recently went in for a check-up/cleaning. What can I say? Dr. Syoum is the best! Where did this Dr. come from???! What a blessing of a dentist, and a human being! I have yet to meet someone in this field (and in general it's rare, sadly) with so much humanity who sincerely cares as much as Dr. Syoum. His staff is great and not only got me in last min (even called later patients to get someone to switch for my earlier time so I can make the appointment!), but Dr. Syoum stayed after hours to help fix something that was just cosmetic and could have easily (and legitimately) told me to come back another day. He is just the most personable, pleasant person who genuinly doesn't try to reeme clients for money. He won't do xrays if not absolutely needed - which I appreciate b/c of the exposure to radiation. He also agreed no problem to do my cleaning my first time there without the xrays, which most dentist won't do (for no good reason really). I'm SOOOO glad I found him. As a cash-strapped grad student, I was worried about cost when going to Mount Morris Park Dental to take care of a couple of issues. For years, I hated going to the dentist since it was always more costly than I had prepared for. For whatever reason, it always felt like I was being taken advantage of. However, Dr. Syoum was very understanding and detailed a plan that would take care of all the problems at the least cost possible. It was clear that his sole focus was the oral health of his patients. Dr. Syoum is also keen on informing his patients, explaining fully what he was doing and letting me know what I could expect years down the road in terms of issues with my teeth. Dr. Syoum is a highly skilled dentist with a personal warmth and caring touch. He runs the office with respect for your time, it is not simply a volume vactory. I have found other dentists in Manhattan so obsessed with extracting (pun indended) the maximum amount of cash, that you feel almost violated; like a vampire victim! In stark contrast, what I find most admirable of Dr. Syoum is that he actually listens to you as a patient - first.... then he suggests dental options for fixing or treatment. Many times it is in your best interest and not solely his financial best interest. I have trusted Dr. Syoum for over seven years. I chipped a tooth and luckily got an appointment with Dr. Syoum on short notice. I explained to him that I don't have dental insurance and that I'll move to Europe in a few weeks where health care costs are a lot less than in the US. He looked at the tooth and suggested to fix it provisionally for an extremely affordable price and get the full treatment in Europe for a fraction of the costs he would have to charge me. He could have easily taken advantage of my situation, but instead he suggested the solution that was best for me. Dr. Syoum really cares about his patients and, in addition, is a very friendly, likable and decent person. I would give six stars if I could. read more

What do you say when it's your first visit, you're in the waiting area and the previous patient gives the dentist accolades? I can't say, "oh yeah, I know." So I smiled and nodded and said "That's really good to know." Well, little did I know. After actually visiting with him, I got it. This was the first time I felt like any of my doctors was a real human being and saw me as one as well. We were able to have an honest and unforced conversation all while he was looking after my teeth. He did great work and went above and beyond.
