This is the resting place of many notable figures in the history of Deadwood, and worth a visit. It's $2 admission and you get a nice detailed map of the cemetery with places to stop and pay respects. It's a little odd to have to pay to enter a cemetery, but I get it , the city has to make money somehow. That said, Mount Moriah Cemetery is definitely worth a visit. It's really cool seeing the graves of Calamity Jane and Wild Bill, and the hike up to Seth' Bullock's grave is totally worth it for the views alone. The grounds are beautiful, peaceful, and very well preserved. A must-see spot if you're in the area. read more

Great history here and such an interesting area to see. Paths are marked, but you are welcome to respectfully go anywhere in the cemetery. If you choose to go to the top and see the headstone of Seth Bullock, be prepared. It is a good steep climb. The views are all around beautiful, and $2 to enter (which I believe goes towards maintenance) is quite the value. I went right at 8am and enjoyed the peace and quiet during my walk. read more

History is so cool. The minute we arrived in Deadwood, we headed up to the cemetery, just to make sure we checked it off our list. There is a small fee to go into the cemetery, but they give you a map and tell you the best way to see the things you want. Of course we visited Bill Hickock and Calamity Jane. I wanted to visit Seth Bullock too, but his location seemed awfully uphill for this Florida gal. We also went to the far end of the cemetery to take in the view of Downtown Deadwood, and that was really cool. There were a few trees obstructing the view, but I'm not here to cut down trees for my selfish desire to see the town better for two minutes. Definitely a must-do if you're in Deadwoood! read more

My son and I stopped here to see Wild Bills and calamity James graves on our way from Rapid City to Yellowstone. The entry fee is $2 pp and they give you a map and description of the interesting plots. It's pretty hilly especially if you want to see Seth Bullock. Parking is limited if crowded. Restrooms and vending machines available at the entrance. Well kept. I may not return but it was cool to see the old graves. read more

Up the hill from downtown Deadwood, SD is a quaint cemetery where you can find Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickok. The cemetery is well maintained. It is almost too maintained. Many of the old tombstones have been replaced with new ones. Still debating how I feel about it. I love old cemeteries with the old tombstones. On one hand, it is good to know who is buried where. On the other hand, it loses that older charm. Make your own decision and visit Mt. Moriah Cemetery. read more

Seems weird rating a cemetery but it's also a money making tourist attraction so here goes. It's $2 per adult and you get a map when you go in as well as where to find notable graves like Wild Bill Hickok and Calamaty Jane. The staff is very helpful and will answer any questions you have. Aside from notable graves, there are also many sections like a Chinese section and a children's section, which was heartbreaking to see. They were filming some sort of documentry while we were there So that was kind of neat. Left just in time for a tour bus full of people to arrive. You simply can't go to Deadwood & not visit this cemetery w/ all the rich history. It may sound weird to describe a cemetery as beautiful, but it absolutely is! It's a huge cemetery w/ pretty scenery & long strolling hills (can be a bit of a walk if you're not in the best of shape). Wild Bill's always been one of my favorite old west icons... probably right behind Wyatt Earp, so it was awesome to visit his grave, along w/ Calamity Jane & Potato Creek Johnny right next to him. It rained most the time we were at the cemetery, so we didn't do too much exploring, but there were more lesser known, but still famous Old West characters buried here too. This was our first time in S. Dakota & my wife & I now want to retire there someday... beautiful state (born & raised in Southern California & it's become too much of a shithole here now... great state to live in back in the 70's/80's). read more

In a town called Deadwood you can't expect a cemetery to be top notch. They've turned this into a tourist attraction and charge a minimal fee to enter (I believe it was $2 per adult) but give you a guidebook/map. It's an uphill walk, so note that it may be strenuous for some, but a pretty view of town. We also noted that woodchucks have invaded the plots--they were everywhere! read more
