I found them on the…read moreinternet, when I needed a sturdy leash and collar for a very spoiled, super feisty Jack Russell Terrier. "Shubael", would NOT wear just any store bought collar. He chewed them all up. I searched the internet, and finally called upon "Leathersmith Designs". The owner is super pleasant to deal with and very meticulous in his designs. I was able to purchase a wonderful matching collar and leash, (leather) from this establishment. The little gems, that are attached to the collar/ leash are super cute, and sparkly. Leashes can be made without the sparkle, as well. It was just that my little Shubael, liked to be "the boy" sporting the best leash in town. He never chewed or destroyed his Leathersmith duds. He wore them proudly until he passed away at age 17. After Shubael's passing, I called upon Leathersmith once again, for a new set of duds. My new Jack Russell Terrier, Sampson, required the same sturdy leash and collar. He was a rescue, unused to a collar/leash. He was, at one time allowed to just run free, without any supervision at all. Leathersmith Designs, cured all that with another well made, easy to wear doggie setup. Sampson, is wearing his own Leathersmith Design duds, to this day. I would not purchase a leash/collar arrangement, from any one or anywhere else. Custom designs, nicely tooled products, that stand up to water, time, and do not dry out as some super market, leather collars do. Great products and great owner to work wit. They have an assortment of dog clothing, coats, boots, custom beds, custom, custom leash hangers, life jackets, leashes and lots of accessories, including hair bows with clips and with elastics, dog hats, seasonal costumes, dog strollers, Christmas stockings, Christmas ornaments, etc. They even have dog faux leather jackets and motorcycle helmets and goggles - so cute! Their customer service is wonderful and they are very accommodating. They'll even let you take measurements of your dog and make-to-fit an outfit of your choice. And while its all quite hip, pieces exceed the concept of 'trend' to provide artful and innovative designs. A juxtaposition of buttons on both rings and pins. Tarnished vinyl skillfully sculpted as bracelets. Purses made from old leather coats. Rings constructed from the glass of busted in bus shelters. Shelffuls of purses-- no two are alike. Leather earrings that are just plain cool. The list goes on. There are some more reserved jewelry pieces as well, as Lady Luck covers it all. With all of this fabulous going on, I hardly had time to notice the large art gallery at the back of the room. Vibrant landscapes were this month's feature. Gorgeous! The store is quaint looking from the outside, and as with much of the rest of the Hydrostone, reminds one of a small British village centre (ie. very boutique-like). I noticed on some photographs here on Yelp that the rear part of the store must have been an art gallery in the past, however this is no longer the case.. Now its an expansion of the sales floor. The first thing one notices when entering the store is the multitude of hats around.. If it weren't for other art pieces on display, one could easily think think the whole store is just for hats. We got a really cool hat made of rain-jacket material. It certainly came in handy since there was a raging snow/rain storm going on outside and those specific hats are waterproof.. I also really liked their knitted winter wear hats/tuques. Some of them are quite unique (see photo I added to the business profile). Theres also a lot of locally crafted art and handmade jewelry. This is always a bonus since supporting the local arts is an investment in the community and makes a nice change from buying the same old Chinese imports that you can find anywhere.
