Once a little boy at his grandfather's knee, now an old man putting flowers at the grave of the grandfather who's been gone 37 years.

This is a very well kept up Cemetery. There is a lot of green grass and a lot of roads going through it. It's really quite large. As you drive around and walk around you see a lot of newer plots and a lot of older stones dating back to the 1800's. My husband has various family members buried here so we come here every year on or near Memorial Day to leave hand picked flowers at their graves. Today I saw a tall monument marked the USS Olympia and the name John Johnson saying that he had been killed while on duty in 1895. I got curious so I Googled the ship and in reading through the information I found verification of an accident that happened on a training exercise in 1895 in which a Coxswain named John Johnson was killed. Gotta love Google. My main problem with the cemetery is that it is like a large city compared to a small town . I prefer smaller town cemeteries especially in the Midwest because they are more comfortable. Also this one has a six foot fence around it to prevent problems like vandalism and muggings whereas the Midwest cemeteries are usually open and available 24 hours. At this one they are very strict about everyone leaving by 4 p.m. Entrances are limited. My husband tells me that years ago there were various entrances and you could even drive all the way from Imperial Ave. to Market St. through the cemetery and drive from Mount Hope Cemetery straight into Greenwood without having to go back onto the main street. Another disadvantage here, the trolley goes right through the middle of the cemetery so you'll be standing there pensively remembering your relatives when all of a sudden at the trolley crossing there is a loud ding ding ding ding! and the gate comes down to prevent people from driving across the tracks as a trolley passes through. Today we put flowers on the graves of my husband's father's baby sister who passed away when she was only 2 months old in 1912. It's hard to imagine that that is now over a hundred years ago! We also visited the resting place of his maternal grandparents and an uncle and aunt. I think it's nice that he always remembers them and I think he worries that after he's gone no one will come visit the graves and put flowers on them. It is a tradition he learned from his father and has tried to pass on to his children so maybe they will continue after he's gone.

From the very beginning, Natty and Gricelda were so understanding of my brother and I specific needs. They were never pushy and were always patient, kind and genuinely caring. They also worked with our budget and were very mindful of what we were comfortable with. We never felt pressured to purchase anything extra that we didn't want or need. Thank you to Tim for taking care of my dad's crypt. And to Belen, Arianna and Reyna for listening to every concern, question and request we had and helping us through everything. What meant the most to us was that everyone truly listened. We never heard "no, we can't do that." Instead, we heard "yes, how can I help?" and "yes, of course." During such an emotional and difficult time, that kindness meant everything. They made the viewing and burial services so much easier for our entire family. I was especially touched by the compassion, dignity and respect everyone showed my dad. From when they took him from his home until the very end we felt comforted knowing he was being cared for with such genuine kindness and love. To Natty, Gricelda, Tim, Belen, Arianna, Reyna and everyone at Dignity Memorial who helped our family, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You helped us through one of the hardest moments of our lives and we will always remember the kindness you showed our dad and our family. Thank you for being there when we needed you most.

She made sure to set out cups and napkins and the coffee was already brewed and ready to go. She had a very friendly demeanor and had a calm presence to her which is great for instances like these. The last thing you want in moments like these is someone with a strong personality or people who don't seem like they know what they're doing. Well. Everything was great and then Rosie left ‍. There was a male employee who stayed behind and I cant tell you his name because he never introduced himself nor did he speak much. It didnt seem like he knew how to control the audio/visual as he had to call in order to figure out where the controls were. When the coffee ran out we asked if he could brew more. When I went in to the kitchen about 30 minutes later everyone was saying it was a bit weak and was coming out lukewarm so they had taken to warming it in the microwave. Well, that apparently was too much power because before we knew it the coffee pot, the microwave, and the fridge all lost power. I told the female employee (not Rosie, also unaware of her name because she showed up later and also neglected to introduce herself) we could just unplug the microwave if it was going to be a problem. She said she was going to call someone to fix the issue and brew stronger coffee. I came back in to the kitchen about 30-45 minutes later to find that now the coffee pot wasn't brewing and only water was coming out. The viewing was going to go until midnight so warm coffee for a grieving family would have been great. We ended up sending someone home for a coffeepot from home. Finally about 10:30 or so they were able to secure a second industrial size coffee pot to replace the now dysfunctional one. While the two employees seemed friendly enough, well actually the female seemed friendly, the male just came across like a deer in headlights, it would have been best to have someone experienced on staff for the night. -Rosie was great for the short time she was there. -There is only 1 unisex bathroom -The location is gorgeous albeit small -You have to go outside to get to the kitchen which is a bit cumbersome especially when it's cold out -There were heaters in the viewing room but I don't know if they were shut down early or if they also stopped working because the last hour or so, the room was incredibly cold -Limited parking

Instead of having the family burdened with additional responsibilities when his time comes- it was great to see him being proactive. And honestly, a huge relief, in my opinion. Back then, and to this present day- he's been living in a facility that takes care of his daily needs. So, when I got his phone call that a representative from Featheringhill Mortuary would make the drive to him and get the paperwork started- pops requested my presence as well. So, I brought this up to my momma- (parents have been divorced for 30 years & actually have a friendship still). And she asked to be present as well, with pops approval. Had a representative not made the visit to his facility- we would have rented a mobility van, which isn't cheap to make such arrangements. The FM representative was patient and forthcoming when it came to explaining services, what to expect when payment is made, and why we would receive paperwork from a life insurance company. Since the arrangements have been accommodated for pops- momma has been interested in getting something very similar to his policy. As the years passed by, I have procrastinated in setting up the appointment for momma. We finally set one up and went to their location. I asked if they could retrieve pop's policy and we can piggyback on his arrangements. The FM rep was patient with momma, who has trouble at times understanding the English language. Her appointment took an hour. We didn't feel rushed at all. We booked our appointment first thing in the morning. Parking lot in the back, with some of the stalls looking very cramped. And off street parking on El Cajon Blvd. I'm most likely going to make my arrangements with FM very soon as well.

Hours after my father passed away, I went straight to California Cremation and Burial as my first choice and didn't regret a bit. Jorge was kind, professional and very honest as far as the monetary amount for the services requested. Their price package was very reasonable compared to the other mortuary around the city. He was very straight forward and never offered extra services that we don't need. He was very knowledgeable on the process with regards to the transfer of remains from the US to overseas. He was able to provide a date for my Dad's visitation service that was convenient to all family members. After we talked and agreed on the services we requested, he was up and running taking custody of my dad from the hospital morgue within an hour. He also posted my Dad's obituary in their website that same day. He was in constant contact, giving me updates and needed documents to facilitate acquisition of his death certificate from the county which he obtained a week after my Dad's passing. I was very impressed of how quick that process went through. Regarding the visitation service, Manuel (Service Attendant) did an outstanding job having my Dad ready at the Chapel at the scheduled time.
