I once waited for hours, only to find out that a staff member had removed my ticket number from the system -- something that should never happen. I tried to stay patient, but when I finally asked about it (because I noticed basically all customers were now gone), they just told me it "wasn't in the system." The entire process was frustrating and unprofessional. The way this courthouse is run is a complete joke. If you can avoid coming here, do yourself a favor and do so. My experience at the Orange County Courthouse was extremely disappointing. The staff and officers are often impatient and unprofessional, and many seem to forget that people come here already stressed and just trying to handle legal matters. At one hearing, I came to help a friend by translating. Even though my English is fluent and my Spanish is limited, the black woman judge approved me to translate anyway. When I struggled a little, she stopped me abruptly, told me to leave, and then began speaking broken Spanish herself -- which made the whole situation confusing and unnecessary. I was also surprised because she isn't Hispanic but knew enough to not need a translator so I don't know why she allowed me to be one. It felt humiliating and disrespectful, especially since I was only trying to help. After that, a courtroom Hispanic male officer asked me to leave completely and would not even allow me to sit quietly as a guest, even though other people were sitting and observing. He was being petty and abusing his little badge that gives him some sort of power, something he likely never has at home. The way both the judge and the officer handled the situation was completely unprofessional and made me feel publicly embarrassed for no reason. The courthouse staff, in general, seem frustrated as well as MISERABLE and take it out on visitors. Overall, this courthouse needs serious improvement in professionalism and basic respect for the public.

In person window #3 politely stated they could not answer the question and called the supervisor. I was told I need to talk to the Assessor's office and when I stated they referred me here it got ugly. My repeated questions and responses were apparently out of the 'supervisors' area of knowledge, they got angry and ordered me to leave. Later I called to speak to the Collector's office Manager. Very hostile but said she would look into the matter and call me back with the correct department. She called me back and stated there is no record of me speaking to the Assessor's office and inferred I must be lying, and can't help me. Suggested "Possibly a legal matter" Sincerely, a disrespected Senior citizen, Veteran and neighbor. "Mobile home owners are paying a tax meant to replace ad valorem taxes while also paying those same taxes through rent. Clearly, that was never the intent." Said Tax Collector Jordan. laketax.com

I have been to this location quite a few times since moving to Altamonte Springs a few years ago…read more During the height of the pandemic, Seminole County changed the process for its citizens in need of services at the local Tax Collector Offices and DMV locations (along with mAny others, I'm sure,). They began requiring an appointment to be made online or by phone to avoid overcrowding, long lines, stressed out employees, and the opportunity for the spread of the virus, germs, and other illnesses. It was a good idea and was made with good intentions. However, on the flip side, if you were trying to get a copy of your ID printed or some other time sensitive service, it wasn't so great. I was unable to get an appointment at any of the locations in Seminole County for weeks, sometimes months, in advance. They did not take walk-in appointments at all. Plus, the lines and crowds inside did not seem to lessen much with the new regulations. I would get there 15 minutes early, as instructed, and still needed to get a number, sit down in the lobby, and wait for it to be called. Again, I had to wait for 20-60 minutes AFTER my appointment time. Somewhat recently, the rules changed again. The Tax Collector Offices still offer the ability to book an online appointment ahead of time, and it is still rare to be able to find one within the same week. Luckily, this location now offers walk in appointments for some basic services, such as a new copy of your driver's license or ID. This office allows walk-in appointments until 4:00 PM Monday - Friday. You can schedule an appointment online for a designated day, time, and location. They are available for weekdays, Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM. You can also check the website before going to the location for a walk-in appointment to see what the average wait times are. The last time I visited this location, I went without an appointment at about 2:30 p.m. I expected to have to wait without an appointment, but I was shocked to discover that as soon as I took a number, it was called within 2 to 3 minutes. I was in and out of the office in about 10 minutes total. The woman working was very friendly and there were barely any people waiting in the lobby. My only complaint is that to get a new copy of my ID and my partner's driver's license, we had to pay $60! We have the Florida gold star on our IDs, but apparently that doesn't help with the cost whatsoever! Besides that, though, it was a great experience!

However, my experience here renewed my gratefulness that we, the citizens, become a part of the justice system in our country. As noted in other reviews, security scanners and Seminole Sheriffs ensure a safe location for the people entering for work and other various reasons. They were thorough, quick and helpful. As a potential juror, I needed to check in using the barcode on my jury summons letter. To my surprise, Grant Malloy himself, the Clerk of Courts and Comptroller for Seminole County, checked us in. Later, he introduced himself to the group and thanked us for our participation. Mr. Malloy's humor peppered throughout kept the intro from being dry. The judge conducted a mass swearing in and then we were asked questions and given general instructions for the day, The ladies in charge of calling names for jurors and giving us breaks did a nice job of keeping us informed and providing the next steps once called. The judge in the courtroom, like everyone else, thanked us for participating and informed us of the next steps. After many questions and leaving and returning to the courtroom. The jurors were selected and the rest of us were again thanked and said our duty was completed for the next year. I felt the length of the day, having arrived at 8 am as instructed and departing around 5:30 pm. But, overall I felt it was a worthwhile process and less painful than a root canal (one of the questions from the prosecuting attorney on how we felt being there).
