I came across MotorCityHDJ on Yelp, where I opened a thread looking for an affordable DJ in the Detroit area. Their services came highly recommended, stating they had a ton of experience and were all-around nice guys. I was already on the fence about having a DJ as it was. We were having an afternoon wedding and were trying to keep costs low. The reception was only 3.5 hours long... I needed a good price in order to actually book someone. I already had a few quotes and wasn't impressed with any of the prices, so what did I have to lose? I went to their website to do some research and gave them a call. I got Brett, who was incredibly friendly over the phone. He totally understood our situation about having a DJ but gave us hope that there's good DJs out there willing to give a good price on a Sunday wedding. We met him at a local Starbucks to sign the agreement. He went over every section of the contract in detail so we completely understood what he was responsible for and what we were responsible for. And he was incredibly friendly. His personality type gets along with everyone. I love people like that. He accepted payment through Paypal, which was incredibly convenient for us. His website was really intuitive, with detailed forms for us to fill out with details about the ceremony, the timeline of the reception and even a music form so we could choose what songs we wanted him to play. On one of the forms, I made it clear what music I didn't want to hear and he totally stuck with that at the reception. One thing I totally appreciated was how Brett was willing to do the outdoor music preceding the ceremony for no extra charge. We were having an extremely short ceremony, so I just wanted music to lead us down the aisle. We offered to pay extra but he said it wasn't a big deal. How sweet is that? Up until the day of the wedding, Brett stayed in perfect contact with me. He even called me the day of the wedding to make sure I was staying calm (rain on my wedding day when the ceremony was supposed to be outside... of course I wasn't calm.) But it was a nice gesture. The ceremony was moved inside and Brett was awesome with the change of plans. He still played our processional music, jazzy music during dinner and finally dance music after dinner was served. One detail we totally loved was that Brett wore a pink and purple tie so he matched our wedding colors! Small detail that made a big difference. Everyone told me they loved our DJ. Some people even thought he was a personal friend of ours because he was so friendly and personable while on the mic. He played the exact music that I wanted to hear at my reception... classic rock with current dance hits mixed in. It's like he knew me my whole life with the way he nailed my musical preferences. We ended up having our ceremony at the reception venue, so he not only handled the reception music, but also ensured that our guests could hear our vows. After the reception was finished, he seamlessly integrated my "Do Play List" with other songs that fit the mood of our guests and the venue. When guests asked for items on my "Do Not Play List" (which was very long and detailed), he ensured that our wishes were respected and no one felt hurt. When songs even sampled from the "Do Not Play List," he made sure to check with me and gauge my preferences. Tom was very professional and responsive. We knew after meeting with him that he was our GUY!! (after 3 other companies). He had a very honest approach about expectations and music flow. He answered all questions before I could ask. I really like that he called and followed up with me after I canceled for a business trip and had him on my list of things to do. Tom really showed his strengths in follow up and that was the # 1 selling feature. He also had a great company website and make things so easy on the average couple getting married for the 1st time. Easy contract, easy forms for details and information from Bridal Party to ceremony & reception music. Was on top of handling people who wanted music played that we said no to prior. He did great with handling ll the people who said "the bride wants to hear it". If I wanted to hear anything I would have gone up to him and asked. He was no armature. lol! We decided on a favorite R&B, soft rock, and pop-mix for dinner music and it was fun, different and guests really enjoyed it. Tom decided to eat at DJ table but wanted to ask and not assume. Motor City HDJ is a fantastic company for events! Brett is a wonderful DJ. He made our wedding even more enjoyable with his song choices folded in with our favorite picks. When I got engaged, I immediately sought out Brett to see if he had our wedding date open. We were guests at two different weddings that hired MotorCity HDJ and we danced the night away! I knew right off the bat, I wanted to book him! Brett did not disappointed and really kept the dance floor hopping. Even when we hit some lulls, he was quick to fill the floor again - perfect song responses! He can survey the crowd and knows exactly what we get people out of their chairs and busting a move.
