Matt was very nice to deal with at the beginning then he turned into be arrogant asshole. The numbers were way off. It just ended up being the most horrible experience I've ever had with a builder. After my barn was didn't show up. I had to bring my own concrete guy in to finish the job properly. Worst part of it is I over 150 leaks in the and then I ended up with more leaks a week after the warranty expired and he refused to come out and fix them and result I would never deal with that company again Motor city builders absolutely awful terrible experience. We had our 2nd floor addition done by motor city builders this spring. We contacted several builders/contractors and Dave was one of the few who responded timely and with a detailed quote and also had his own crew (no sub contractors other than hvac and electrical). Once the construction started, Dave and his crew were professional from start to finish, on schedule and very detailed oriented. We did have some unexpected overruns on the budget (2 zone hvac, foam insulation and other unforeseen structural items) but Dave explained the differences and gave options and credit for quoted items as much as possible. Even with the overruns, I would say their prices are fair especially considering that you are getting quality craftsmanship which is very hard to find these days. All of his crew have been with him for a long time, they are experienced and if it wasn't up to Dave's standards, it was fixed right away. At first Matt made you feel confident in the companies abilities to get the job done on time with no issues, however as you can see in the pictures, one of the workers cut around the electrical outlets instead of removing them or asking me to have them removed. This caused the outlet tabs to sit inside the drywall rather than on top where they should be. This also caused me to purchase oversized outlet covers. Paint runs were visible around the windows. The worst thing was when Matt came to get his final payment. As he was leaving I noticed the front entry door was damaged (see pictures) he called his carpet person and told me and my fiancé that the carpet installer seen that on Thursday, the last day work was performed. He tried to claim that someone probably tried to break in. I live in the front of the sub where parents line up for the school bus. I checked my game camera and it happened to be on that prior Tuesday and took a picture of the open door which showed no damage. I sent this picture to Matt with a time and date stamp on it. He offered to install a door if I bought it. I did not damage the door, his people were the only ones coming and going through that door. I even discussed it with a Genesee County Sherriff who has serious doubts that someone would try to break into the front of a house that backs up to the woods. I Matt does not respond to my communication attempts in a reasonable amount of time I will be seeking a legal remedy to this situation. Because of his response to this situation I will never use this company again and we had been planning on using them to install granite counter tops, but can no longer trust them in our house. read more
