Solid 3.75* out of 5 for motel & staff.
Can be a couple of stars less for guests & the indigent, ne'er-do-wells, addicts & working girls trolling the property on some days.
The good:
* Can't beat the almost always below $50/nt price. Even with taxes, it only adds on a few dollars, not $25+ like at hotels.
* Front desk staff is pleasant & professional, even though now during Covid, they're doing double duty... at times they're washing floors or cleaning in the back. They do it with a smile. All of them wear masks.
* All the HBO channels, all news, WEA, etc.
* Room is updated & Covid clean. Sure, some things are older... the bedspreads aren't brand, spanking new, the shower head is loose, but everything's clean.
* Mini fridge, m/w, a few plastic cups & 2 soaps in the room.
Good to know:
* During Covid, there's no lobby coffee. You need to visit the front desk with used towels to replace them. Housekeeping will only visit if you ask & then you must leave the room so they can safely work.
* You need to drive for food. Not much around... McD's & HEB (local grocery chain) about 5-mi away. There's a donut shop & gas station next door, but the earthlings that frequent, wander by & work in those places are as dicey as those wandering around the M6. I'm a girl & the middle eastern wannabe lothario who owns that dump is 2 quarts low on respect for women.
* Keep in mind, if you're unfamiliar, you are 30-min away from Lakeline/Avery Ranch & at least 45-min from downtown. It's faster to take the toll roads & is about $1 from here to downtown. You'd spend that $1 in extra gas anyway, if you forgo toll roads. Austin traffic isn't as congested as it normally is pre-Covid, but there's still a fair amount of traffic, especially during rush hours & noon, when I guess the entire town decides to have a simultaneous lunch.
The bad:
* Like many M6's, the lighting is always dim, aside from the vanity mirror.
* A major problem on a few days during my 1-wk stay while apt hunting was the working girls who visited. M6 rooms are all paper thin, so you get stereo Annie Does Austin for free, well into the wee hours. The bags under my eyes from being continually woken up was my proof following days. The pimps come by at regular intervals to signal with their car horns at 1-4am, alerting the girls that their sessions have ended. Well, punctuality is helpful at any job.
During the day on a couple of days, prostitutes hung around the storage facility next door, waiting for cars to pick them up.
If you don't stay in a hotel for a few days, these are often things that go unnoticed by other guests... they just know there was a noisy neighbor or some buffoon was beeping the car horn. Stay a couple of days, working in the room on the computer with the curtains open & you even see drifters sauntering through the parking lot, all around the bldg, looking for an opportunity to grab something from a car or open room while housekeeping is working. I've several times had to either stare down someone who was getting too curious while I was getting out of my car with packages or sifting through my trunk looking for a needle in a haystack, or I had tell them to "keep walkin'" in my best Pacino impression.
This part of Georgetown is a bit dicey. I wasn't scared, just en garde. Too bad, cuz during my week stay, I'd love to have been able to leave the door open daily for an hour or so, while working on the computer, to let in the air & sunshine. It didn't feel safe or wise to do so.
The price & cleanliness makes it worth the bother, especially if you're just dropping in for a day or 2. Just watch your belongings while unloading. read more
