The slot machines seem to be getting tighter and tighter. They don't play with you, meaning, give me a little, I'll give it back, don't take it all in a couple hours if not sooner. Another thing that a lot of regular customers complain about is that they are bribing people to come with all the drawing giveaways and vehicle drawings. Let the machines play and the people have a enjoyable evening. As soon as a night's evening giveaways are done the place empties out. Let the machines play with the customer's, let people have an enjoyable evening. In most cases, people leave pissed off not at themself for being stupid and losing too much, but pissed at the establishment for ripping them off.

The place is off the beaten path and tucked away but not difficult to locate. The casino entrance was closed so we entered through the hotel. Being that it was Sunday the crowd was a bit more senior I'm assuming because a lot of us had to work in the morning. I took my turn at blackjack and the slots. After the rollercoaster of wins and loses I walked away with an extra $300. I'm not in this neck of the woods often but I would recommend a visit.

First night enjoyed a nice ribeye for supper at Nott's. a mile up the street heading away from Lake. Before leaving, we had a seafood lunch at the Regatta over the Lake. The Hotel has new owners, but same management and the prior owner, Roberta, visits often. The Hotel has very nice rooms with the usual amenities. The coffee pot is communal, the manager instructs on its use, first guest up starts the brewing. This little town has excellent restaurants, beautiful scenery, great folks, World class birding, decent fishing & hunting. Two large marshland game preserves are nearby. Do bring your boat, as no excursions are regularly available. Large live oaks along the waterfront & in parks give shade for walking or cycling. Tips: Less crowded weekdays, can get a bit rowdy during duck hunting season. Another locally famous Cajun Cafe is a few minutes up the road, at Mermentau, "C'est Bon" Cafe & Seafoods. Only 15" from Interstate 10. Don't miss this jewel of a town, Hotel, & eateries ! Rick

What can I say besides this was the best place to be during the holidays growing up…read more Ms.Cheryl was the most excellent hostess and has been for many years of not over a decade. I highly doubt many people are coming down this way, but if you do, & you get a chance, stay here. It's quiet and full of history, the good and the ugly, but without a doubt, a must visit. The attic used to contain hundreds of artifacts and history pieces but the owner sold all of it unfortunately... I remember finding out Santa wasn't real here, haha, having an Easter egg hunt with my classmates, and there are always used to be tons of weddings taking place here :) if you get a chance to check out the bowling lane please do! It's very interesting

EXCUSE ME. WHERE IS THE LOVE BUTTON?…read more This is my favorite hotel in the whole state! I stay at hotels pretty regularly in New Orleans (which is known for having wonderful boutique hotels and B&B's) and the Fairfax tops them all. Cheryl always is friendly and courteous every time I come there! There are only SIX rooms in this plantation house built in 1852 but they are six magically captivating rooms! Rates are reasonable and of course come with breakfast (and free wifi). I usually can get the Fairfax or Murphy Suite for $169/ngt. The other four rooms are very comfortable as well. There is also a bar area with tables and chairs next to the lobby. The city of Franklin is a very peaceful and charming town with lots of character. New Iberia is only 25 miles away if you want to make a day trip to a bigger city with more shopping/dining options. This is my escape from all the noise and traffic I usually am encountering in the French Quarter. A beautiful and romantic place to stay away from it all. I really recommend the Fairfax House to anyone seeking a different kind of stay than your usual modern chain hotels.

They have just redone the carpeting and done a complete refresh. It was great. I do have one complaint and it is really a personnel complaint. This may need some training with the individual. My wife who had her hands full building out a breakfast plate for our grandson was embarrassed by a gentleman who looked to be in charge of stocking the breakfast. He yelled out in front of everyone, "Mam, please use the tongs" (she was getting a piece of bread and didn't use the tongs). The proper thing to do since this is a service related job, should have been to go over and help her get it and in a quieter tone, tell her to please use the tongs. She was quite embarrassed as everyone looked her way. So, Hotel gets a 5, Kitchen guy doesn't get a 5, but should be taught how to deal with the non-tonging grandma.
