Expect to pay $1000 and wait two additional weeks than quoted. Had well drilled and got water at estimated quote. $500+ fuel surcharge and $400+ charge for pump below 60'. No credit given for shorter distance to house than quoted. Quoting only works one way, in their favor and without clarity. I asked how often and how I should treat the well and was told that was up to me and watch a YouTube video. I got water and a warranty I have 0 faith in. I guess I better ask YouTube how I should make sure my well stays safe that I paid $6500 to the experts that won't give any advice. read more

On 9/3 at 4 am our well pump was running and running. I checked it and it wasn't building any pressure past 20psi. I called my regular well guy and he referred me to another company that had the necessary equipment to remove a Baker adapter from the well pipe. I called the other company on 9/5 and was told that it wouldn't be until 9/10 when he could come out and look at it. Being that we were on our third day without water, we thought it would be a bit of a stretch to have to wait several more days. We then proceeded to look for another company that might be able to come out sooner to get our water back on line. We came across Moss Well Drilling. After calling them, we were told that a crew would be sent out first thing on MONDAY morning. We thought, "Great!". Monday came and we waited till late in the morning before calling about a no-show. The owner talked to us and then told me that he 'forgot' it was a holiday and if it was OK if he sent out a crew first thing on Tuesday. Or I could pay their 'holiday rate' of $250@hr for someone to come out on Monday. We waited. Tuesday, 9/8 came, and the 2-man crew showed up right around the estimated time. First, they checked the well pump. They primed it and, sure enough, it wouldn't build up pressure past 8psi. Next, they checked the reservoir tank and determined it was waterlogged. Since my tank is only a 35gal tank, they mentioned that they have new tanks on their truck. I asked them, "How much?" and was given a muttered, ambiguous answer of, "Oh, $7-800". Uh...ok. Really?! $800 for a reservoir tank? I was already being charged the 'normal' rate of $130@hr! When they couldn't fire up the well pump they went outside to see if they could pull up the Baker adapter by hand. No go. They had to use their small crane on their truck to pull it out of the well pipe (Unbeknownst to me, there was a $150 charge for use of that crane. Sweeet). They determined that the foot valve was old and replaced it. Then they greased up the OLD O-rings and reassembled the pick up hose in the pipe. Next, they went back into the basement to cut out a section of PVC pipe to install an adapter pressure/shrader valve to inject air pressure into the pickup hose to see for leaks. Not surprisingly, a slow leak appeared. Then they went back outside, removed the Baker adapter a second time, regreased it, shoved it back down the pipe, injected more compressed air and this time the air audibly was hissing past the O-rings. The prognosis was that possibly I had a leak in the galvanized pipe connecting the house to the well pipe. I suggested that before we start a very expensive digging project that maybe we should do the simple things first...like maybe replace the O-rings with NEW ONES? So their boss said he could get the O-rings, but his crew had to do another job and, if time permitting, could come back out later that afternoon to finish up the job. Surprisingly, they did come back to replace the O-rings. After they assembled everything, magically, the leak disappeared. They went back down to the basement and tried to fire up my pump again. No chance of it going past 8psi. Then one of the guys said they were going to try another pump to see if it's not my pump that went bad. They brought in a new pump off their truck (a Gould J5SH model) and told me, "This is an expensive pump! A very good pump that will last a long time!". While they were installing it, I Googled up the pump to get information about it and, lo, it showed up on Amazon for $327.99 with a MSP of $589. When I asked the guy, "How much is the pump?" he muttered ambiguously, "Uh...$800". I then showed him my phone and told him, "Here it is on Amazon for $327.99 with a MSP of $589! Same model!". I was waiting for a counter offer, or a, "We can meet or beat that price", or even a reasonable offer to purchase their pump, but NO. I was greeted with defeaning SILENCE. As they were wrapping it up, they disassembled their pump and brought it back to their truck leaving my pump sitting on the basement floor amidst bits and pieces of cut up PVC pipe. Both men went to their truck to write up the bill. I went out to them and the driver, who was writing up the bill, told me that they would not install anything I buy on my own. Wonderful! I received a bill for $722 and told them I would get them a check. Upon returning with the check, the driver told me that he 'forgot' to add a $150 charge for the crane! (WHAT??!!) I was taken aback! Charge for use of the crane??!!! He then showed me a binder that had all the prices in it and showed me $150 for use of the crane. Smoke was pouring from my ears as I walked back to cut yet another check. Grand total: $922. So what did I get for $922? I got 2 new O-rings and a foot valve, a mess in my basement, no courtesy call from the owner to see if the job is satisfactory and--most importantly-- NO WATER!!! Recommend Moss Well Drilling?
