We Love this Clean close to the Beach Spot ! Have been coming to this little Gem for years. Quick walk to the beach. Really nice KOA hosts :) Nice little Store with Tshirts and emergency items . Nice Super Clean bathroom and shower . It's a Great spot to hit Monterey, Carmel, and Santa Cruz for a day trip .

The facility was clean, I felt safe in this campground however, I have a couple complaints. They advertise free wifi, however the wifi does not work. Also not password protected so it's unsecured. Also the bathroom code was not on our paperwork at check in. We were told it was emailed to us, we looked through email and could not find a password. There was no emergency number to call. I feel like there should always be an emergency number for issues that arise. In response: We callled the " emergency number" on the paperwork. It went to a VM. No one answered or ever called back. The internet is not good. I Youtube and could not get any internet at all. It was late at night. Its also not password protected. I see you mentioned looking into the reservation, can you clarify what that means exactly?

Great little RV Park. Friendly and clean and a good location. Easy drive into Carmel by the Sea and Monterey Bay. Walking distance to a beautiful beach and sunset (see photos).

Nov. 2023: Really love the location and facility of this KOA. It's very clean, well organized, and well situated. It sits near the ocean, just a short walk. The harbor is right next door. You can see and hear the sea lions from the campsite. There are a few restaurants nearby you can walk to. Very pleasant service. Enjoyed my stay here!

    Nice fire...and a beautiful sewer line .
 Haha!

Camping is meant to be one with nature . Not everyone just sittin inside there Rv's

the space between the Rv spots are little to none. almost makes you think they promote being indoors instead of enjoying nature. your tiny slab of concrete to try and have a fire ....you know something people hold very special to be able to bond with there family. well ...you get to sit right next to someones sewer line . either with it behind you or right infront of you . what an enjoyable experience...NOT!!!!!!!

Well maintained small RV park. Within walking distance to several good dining options, some lovely scenic areas and a wide variety of shops. We had a romantic walk in the evening to view the full moon over the Harbor which was spectacular. There is a resident cat here who is quite friendly. We would recommend Moss Landing KOA Express and we will be returning.

Great location. You are about twenty minutes north of Monterey and twenty five minutes south of Santa Cruz. The harbor is right behind the campground, with fresh fish for sale. The coast is only 500 feet. Great for a nice walk with the pup.

The smallest KOA I ever been to, but definitely one of my favorites. Checking in was a breeze. Got our complimentary cookies with an overview of the campground map and we were on our way. Because of the size of the lot and everyone checking in all at once I've received assistance on backing in my trailer to control the traffic. I typically do not like distractions while backing in, but in this case I see how it was necessary to get everyone settled in quickly. WiFi is complimentary as we were provided a user name and password. However, I had no luck. I decided to just use my cellular data instead. I'm sure the front office would have resolved the issue if I've brought it up to them. I don't put this against them. We parked at lot 4 where the rear is a chain linked fence. Behind this fence is a parking lot that gets full in the morning. This is where folks go on boat tours. While this didn't bother me much, it can be for others who seek privacy. They have two gender neutral restrooms next to the front office. These include showers in them. Majority of folks come here fully equipped and I personally didn't see this as a problem with just the two. You have the beach and a few places to grab food and drinks within walking distance. This is definitely a plus without having the need to drive far. Heading over here without a reservation is not recommended. Many were turned away. It was fully occupied during my stay.

Very nice RV site with full hookups. Clean and well maintained. People are friendly and nice. Easy walking distance to beach and lemongrass restaurant (awesome thai food). Wifi signal is good and has bathrooms, washer dryer machines.

Reserved a spot with another family and requested a spot next to each other for 2 nights. The day before, I called to ask about dogs on the Salinas River State beach. I called and Liz answered the phone, she said technically that dogs aren't allowed on the beach. So we decided not to bring our dogs. As we were traveling to the KOA Liz called to let me know that GPS usually takes you from 101 to 1 where you have to turn left at a stop sign. On a Friday afternoon a left turn in an RV at a stop sign would have been less than ideal. She advised a different route that worked like a charm. We got to the KOA and met Liz and checked in. She was very pleasant. We arrived at our site and the only complaint I have is our picnic table was warped and not useable. We didn't have it replaced because we were with the other family and theirs was fine. I LOVED that I could hear the Sea Lions barking in the harbor from our camp site. The next day we rode our bikes to the beach you could also walk. We spent a few hours on the beach watching the SeaLions, Pelicans and some Humpback Whales. It was amazing seeing that from the shore. Later we took a walk to the harbor to find the barking sea lions but they were somewhere we could not get to. There was an awesome seafood restaurant Phil's Fish Market that seemed very popular. Their fresh strawberry short cake looked delicious. They did close at 6pm on a Saturday which I found weird. Overall we had an amazing time. Next time I will book a whale watching tour so I could see them up close.

Beach & wild life, in waterway

Everyone was so accommodating! The sites are very close to each other but I would definitely come back! We had 4 rigs and they put us back to back which made us our own gathering place beach is a close walk!

April 18-21, 2025…read more Thought I'd update my review, since it's been almost 8 years! since my prior review. We stayed in one of the sites with water and electricity. I believe there are only 10 or 11 sites with hookups; the rest have no hookups. Even though they don't have hookups, I prefer the sites on the bluff overlooking the ocean, but those are almost impossible to get these days. It's competitive out there when trying to make reservations. We were very happy with our large grassy site with beautiful trees and lots of birds. The sites at this campground are a nice size; it's great to have your own space. Unfortunately, our luck was that there were several big groups of campers here together, and they tended to gather at the campsite near ours. Lots of kids, scooters, bikes, barking dogs, etc. Just families enjoying each other, but it was rather lively. The campground seemed like a different world after these groups departed. Peaceful, even. There is a bit of road noise that you can hear from some of the sites depending on their location; but at night it is quiet enough to hear the owls hoot. There are two trails down to the beach; the one that was closed on my prior visits was open. It's quite a climb, but worth every step. Dog-friendly beaches are always a huge plus in my book. Also a plus is that there are four dump stations ($10). I'll definitely come back--I'll keep trying; someday I might actually get one of those premium sites on the bluff again. Note of caution - if you have a tall rig, some of the trees on the road to the campsites were in need of trimming, so you need to watch carefully. Easy does it. Also, the garbage trucks come through at 6:00 in the morning. Really? At a campground? ....... So if you like to sleep in...forget it.

We especially appreciate the high quality of service and upkeep, including the informative attendant at the front gate, the well-maintained campground, and the helpful State Park day workers that we would run into occasionally. The restrooms and coin operated showers were maintained. A special note of thanks goes to the camp host, Andrew, and his black Labrador, Hoppy. Their effort, including driving around in the old golf cart to sell firewood bundles, was a perfect touch that enhanced our stay. We have returned multiple times and look forward to continuing this tradition. Thanks, Andy

At the beginning of the hike and at the end of the hike you have to cross a river that is about knee deep for someone around my height of 5"4. The hike took us 5 hours to compete with ample breaks included. We hung out on two different beaches (not included in the time) throughout our day which was a ton of fun. It was my first time ever seeing or even hearing about purple sand and my mind was blown. The trails are VERY overgrown so I'd suggest wearing long sleeves and pants to avoid ticks, poison ivy, and stinging nettle. Parking is free if you are willing to park along hwy 1 and walk/run across the street. There is paid parking inside of the park and there seemed to be plenty of space if that's your preference. Lastly, I love that there are clean bathrooms at the beginning of the trail head. Overall, this loop offered absolutely amazing ocean views during the majority of hike. Bring lots of water, sunscreen, and your camera.

Also, while the trail is quite wide, it is lined on both sides with poison oak almost the entire walk which is fine as long as you don't touch it. The trail floor starts out as dirt and small rocks and eventually turns to sand and rock. There's also a small section of a two planks wide stable bridge over a river. It's maybe 30 feet long and the water below is about 6 inches to a foot deep. It would be fine for most children to cross with an adult. The views once you arrive at the ocean are truly stunning . The sand is quite hot and there are many small rocks and lots of seaweed, so I'm glad I wore flip flops. Sneakers would have been better I think.

Right off the bat, our check-in experience was frustrating. We had reserved and paid for an ADA campsite, only to arrive and find someone else already occupying it. Apparently, there is no system in place to verify IDs against reservations, which seems like a huge oversight--especially for ADA-designated spots. After spending time sorting that out, things settled temporarily. Our first night at the Weyland campground quickly went downhill once "quiet hours" (10pm-6am) began. Instead of quiet, the majority of the campground was loud, playing music, and talking well into the night--until nearly 4am. There was zero enforcement of quiet hours, and no visible presence from a camp host or ranger to address it. It honestly felt more like a free-for-all than a state park campground. Hoping for a better experience, we moved to the South campground for our second night. Unfortunately, things got worse. The bathroom across from Site 45 was in unacceptable condition. The ADA shower stall took three of my paid shower tokens without working, and to make matters even worse, there was literal human feces on the floor. Not just dirty--completely unsanitary and clearly not being maintained. We attempted multiple times to contact the camp host about both the bathroom situation and earlier noise issues, knocking several times with no response. It was incredibly frustrating to have no support or accountability when problems came up. It's really disappointing because this park is naturally beautiful and has so much potential. But the lack of basic management--no ID checks for reservations, no quiet hour enforcement, and poorly maintained facilities--completely takes away from the experience. It honestly feels like the park is being let down by the very people responsible for running it. Would love to return someday, but until there are major improvements in oversight and maintenance, it's hard to justify coming back.

We booked a Luxury Tent - Lower Grove through Airbnb for about $200 for 1 night (we did book pretty late - about 1 week in advance - so the price might be cheaper if booked earlier). Instructions on getting there were pretty easy, and check in is in their central office building 3-8pm. Staff were super friendly! The office closes at 9pm, and then security comes onto the site, so I felt very safe. The whole campsite is small so a lot of the sites are pretty close to each other. They have cabins, RV spots, drive-in sites, walk-in sites, and some really nice luxury tents. Some spots have a nicer view up the hill, but the Luxury Tents in the Lower Grove were on the steep downhill road near the exit, more tucked in under some trees. I did like that the Lower Grove felt a little more private than the Upper Grove. But we did have to walk up the steep hill to get to the nearest bathroom. Our Luxury Tent (50Q) was pre-built and sturdy, and had space for our car right on the site. Our tent came with a queen sized bed, heated blanket, 2 side tables with reading lights, USB plug, a small shelf at the foot of the bed with some towels, and a small side table with a electric kettle and coffee packets. Outside on the small patio was also 2 adirondack chairs for lounging, and a propane grill with grilling utensils. I do wish we got a small table outside for our food, and a fire pit at the site would have been nice. We also ran out of propane in the morning but I'm sure they would refill it if we were staying longer. Our tent was perfect for 2 people. Some other Luxury Tents are much larger and can fit many people, and had large patios, tables, and firepits. Since our site was under some trees, it was quite shaded, which I'm sure would be awesome in the summer! We stayed during early November, so the evening was cool and morning was brisk, but it wasn't freezing. The campsite amenities were very cool: a heated pool, sauna (can fit 6-8 people), multiple fire pits and lounging areas, ping pong table, cornhole, horse shoes, basketball hoop, playground, and hiking trail. There were some sports equipment and games at the front that were available to use as we please. I super enjoyed the clean bathrooms, showers, and dishwash area - with provided hand soap, paper towels, dish soap, and body soap in the showers! It was always clean and never crowded. I thought this was worth it for our site and luxury tent - super duper convenient to not have to bring & set up a tent/sleeping bag. We basically arrived and were able to get comfortable right away. Saddle Mountain is a good choice if visiting the Carmel-by-the-Sea, Monterey, or Big Sur areas.

There was so much beautiful scenery, and a few things that you can do lots of walking at me in the morning. They're lucky enough enough to see some cars and motorcycles going on the track. Definitely would recommend camping here. Our family had a really good time.

I'll start off by saying this was one of my favorite spots locally to sort of "escape" and go…read morecamping but still be local if needed. This time I was going there to try and get as much fresh air as possible after leaving an abusive living situation, and moved in with my parents temporarily. My medical issues are chronic and severe, but fresh air somehow makes it feel tolerable. Well I got a voicemail from someone who sounded friendly, but on the phone I got a rather unhappy and unpleasant woman named "Wynette" saying my upcoming bookings were canceled and "refunded". She already sounded annoyed when I tried to correct her about what I complained about, so at this point she didn't care what my side of the story was. I had a stray cat spray some of my stuff on 2023 and I just cleaned off what I could and I can't smell it. I know animals can still, so when a golden retriever who belongs to a camp host named Jim, was wondering around, unattended and urinating on everything, I got nervous about him coming up to my stuff. He was having a great time wondering around and His owner was at his RV with his other dog and I was further down past the bathrooms. I asked the gate if they could get the dog so he wouldn't go urinate on my stuff, possibly smelling the cat. I never once asked with an attitude or anything but Jim wasn't happy. Jim drove by as I was starting to heat water again(I had no issue the night before) and prepare food, and said no campfires at the campgrounds. He drove by again to make sure I put out the campfire and only me, he didn't ask anyone else. No other camper for 2 days was told to put it out, even for a fire and not cooking: he only wanted to make sure I put mine out. There was a ban at the moment(besides for cooking or gas) and I respect it and put it out even though I was cooking, but he needs to be enforcing that to everyone, often. Not just cause I told on him for not watching his dog. Well that was that and I just kept to myself the rest of the stay and it was great, met great people. Fast forward, all of a sudden they have wrong notes taken down, like I said a cat sprayed myself this last time.. it was 2 years ago... basically every part with Jim written in them were gone and it was just me complaining. Wynette was annoyed and said I can't come back. That's fine, I'll find another local gem to stay at. Between pet sitting jobs and college classes. Well back to the angry and argumentative woman on the phone, I called back making sure i can get an email with proof that they refunded both my bookings, and before I can even ask she snapped and hung up on me. I called back, left a message and called again, it's like $900+ we talking about. Finally someone answered and said they would email it. Still haven't gotten that email yet. My advice, don't complain about anything the hosts might do, or their pets, because you won't be allowed back. You'll get woken up at 9 by the shooting range so don't plan a quiet vacation, but it is beautiful. I'm giving it a one because of the level of disrespect I experienced there from Jim the host and Wynette on the phone. I think both were childish, especially with management not even asking me what happened and told me not to come back. Add: my final phone call with Wynette involved me saying I'd come in and talk to someone else because she wouldn't let me speak to someone else, and told me I should show up at 5pm when she got off work, in the tone where kids in high school wanted to fight you. I was a little in disbelief that someone would say that to anyone as a full on adult. I don't care how stressed someone is.... That's unacceptable
