I am a big fan of KOA and have stayed at all of the three levels that I thought they had up till now. This one is a small KOA - the manager tells me it's the first KOAExpress. The other levels, journey, destination and resort are increasingly fancy, but generally have some kind of market, a cafe or restaurant, pools, jacuzzis and the like - more so at the higher levels. Well, this one was a fraction of the size of most of those. it was very well kept, nice level paved sites, excellent bathrooms - two full bathrooms, where you get your own toilet, sink and shower and door It's essentially located right in the harbor, there's a gate that will get you to the docks. Including all the whale watching boats . A bunch of sea lions were my neighbors on a rock on the other side of the fence. There are a couple of restaurants within walking distance as well, so that makes up for not having one on site read more

I really love KOA campgrounds. This one is a hidden little spot between Monterey and Santa Cruz, less than a 1/2 hour drive to each. Really nice staff, very clean and safe. The spots are very close to each other, but this is a small campground, maybe 50 spots. The KOA person guided us into our spot, made it easy because if it was just me and the wife... well you know! Moss landing is an old fishing town, very small, abut very historical and interesting to walk around. The ocean beach is walking distance from the campground. I will return to this place, very safe and very secluded. Nice clean laundry room, landscaping is beautiful, location is in a very secluded area in the farming community. Very tight spots, you are really close to your neighbor. But that's OK, this is a place you stay at, and go out during the day to see the sites around the area. There is no stores or restaurants in the area. Only one deli (which is really good but only open to 3pm). So you will need to have food and supply with you. read more

What's not to love? Camping next to the Moss Landing harbor, very quiet campground. Great place to stay and be between Santa Cruz and Monterey area. Go do the Eco Tour, try out Woodward Marine Market Restaurant. Employee's-Ben and Liz and Scott and Jennifer are the true gems here, they are the nicest! read more

Excellent RV campground! Very, very clean, spaces are level and have full hookups. While this is definitely a "small" campground, it has everything you'll need. Staff is super friendly. There's a small store, pet area (with real grass) and even a small common area. Super easy in and out. While the "town" of Moss Landing is very quiet with little to do, this is a great spot for a night or two. Plus, free cookies when you check in which was welcomed! read more

The facility was clean, I felt safe in this campground however, I have a couple complaints. They advertise free wifi, however the wifi does not work. Also not password protected so it's unsecured. Also the bathroom code was not on our paperwork at check in. We were told it was emailed to us, we looked through email and could not find a password. There was no emergency number to call. I feel like there should always be an emergency number for issues that arise. In response: We callled the " emergency number" on the paperwork. It went to a VM. No one answered or ever called back. The internet is not good. I Youtube and could not get any internet at all. It was late at night. Its also not password protected. I wish there were more KOAs like this around the country. Impeccable facilities and the staff go beyond in everything they do. We visit once a year and it always feels like we've "come home". My wife and I loved this KOA, and we should say we don't always like every KOA we stay at. This is a small one and we were here on Halloween night - and what a kick it was. Many RVs were decorated and lots of pets had costumes on. It's a clean campground and there's only a few spots but we'll be back! Staff were very nice and fun to joke with. Couldn't have been better except this was our last trip with our 12 year old English Bulldog. We will always remember this campground as her last. read more

Nov. 2023: Really love the location and facility of this KOA. It's very clean, well organized, and well situated. It sits near the ocean, just a short walk. The harbor is right next door. You can see and hear the sea lions from the campsite. There are a few restaurants nearby you can walk to. Very pleasant service. Enjoyed my stay here! read more

Great location. You are about twenty minutes north of Monterey and twenty five minutes south of Santa Cruz. The harbor is right behind the campground, with fresh fish for sale. The coast is only 500 feet. Great for a nice walk with the pup. read more

The smallest KOA I ever been to, but definitely one of my favorites. Checking in was a breeze. Got our complimentary cookies with an overview of the campground map and we were on our way. Because of the size of the lot and everyone checking in all at once I've received assistance on backing in my trailer to control the traffic. I typically do not like distractions while backing in, but in this case I see how it was necessary to get everyone settled in quickly. WiFi is complimentary as we were provided a user name and password. However, I had no luck. I decided to just use my cellular data instead. I'm sure the front office would have resolved the issue if I've brought it up to them. I don't put this against them. We parked at lot 4 where the rear is a chain linked fence. Behind this fence is a parking lot that gets full in the morning. This is where folks go on boat tours. While this didn't bother me much, it can be for others who seek privacy. They have two gender neutral restrooms next to the front office. These include showers in them. Majority of folks come here fully equipped and I personally didn't see this as a problem with just the two. You have the beach and a few places to grab food and drinks within walking distance. This is definitely a plus without having the need to drive far. Heading over here without a reservation is not recommended. Many were turned away. It was fully occupied during my stay. read more

Reserved a spot with another family and requested a spot next to each other for 2 nights. The day before, I called to ask about dogs on the Salinas River State beach. I called and Liz answered the phone, she said technically that dogs aren't allowed on the beach. So we decided not to bring our dogs. As we were traveling to the KOA Liz called to let me know that GPS usually takes you from 101 to 1 where you have to turn left at a stop sign. On a Friday afternoon a left turn in an RV at a stop sign would have been less than ideal. She advised a different route that worked like a charm. We got to the KOA and met Liz and checked in. She was very pleasant. We arrived at our site and the only complaint I have is our picnic table was warped and not useable. We didn't have it replaced because we were with the other family and theirs was fine. I LOVED that I could hear the Sea Lions barking in the harbor from our camp site. The next day we rode our bikes to the beach you could also walk. We spent a few hours on the beach watching the SeaLions, Pelicans and some Humpback Whales. It was amazing seeing that from the shore. Later we took a walk to the harbor to find the barking sea lions but they were somewhere we could not get to. There was an awesome seafood restaurant Phil's Fish Market that seemed very popular. Their fresh strawberry short cake looked delicious. They did close at 6pm on a Saturday which I found weird. Overall we had an amazing time. Next time I will book a whale watching tour so I could see them up close. read more

This is one of my favorite locations to camp! It's so peaceful and centralized in the middle of Monterey and Santa Cruz. The drive to Monterey is about 20 minutes and the drive to Santa Cruz is about 25 minutes. Oh and about 20 minutes to Capitola. Capitola is a must too! Keep in mind that there isn't a lot to do in Moss Landing. It's more of a place to chill and veg. There are a couple restaurants that are walking distance and the beach is walking distance too. If you have teens or little ones this KOA may not be for you. The staff is helpful as they help guide you if you need assistance banking up your trailer or RV. They are taking the Covid precautions seriously and currently have all bathrooms and showers closed. They will only allow one person in the lobby even if it's the same house-hold. All grass areas are kept up and have pretty flowers or bushes. Keep in mind there are little critters running around at night. We accidentally left a bag of trash last night and had a skunk trying to drink the left over droplets of beer! Throw your trash away. Lol Learned that the hard way at 2am. Spaces are pretty close to each other but doesn't phase us. read more

Whatta' hidden gem! It is located on the Monterey coast, between Monterey/Carmel to the south, and Santa Cruz to the north. This smaller RV camp (+/-50 spaces) is ideal for those with RVs in the small to mid sizes. It is located in a small and sleepy local fishing village Moss Landing. There are several shops and amazingly good restaurants within steps of the camp. The camp itself is one of the best run, best maintained I have ever been to. The late night check-in was a breeze. The camping spaces are generous concrete pads with a picnic table. The hookups are in perfect order and so convenient. The ground between pads are paved with river rock which is attractive and tidy. And there are plenty of blooming plants all around making the park very pretty. The staff are just the nicest and hardest working. Liz went out of her way to patch spaces together so I could stretch my 2 night stay to 7 nights (rarely possible). I liked it that much! They have a nice little store with everything a camper needs, and things I enjoy (Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey, etc.). And the maintenance men never rest. They are so busy keeping the park so nice. And they are on the spot to help direct those who want help backing in. I found myself wondering how many hours they work each day? because they are working from dawn to dark. And they too are the nicest. I live 4 hrs east at the top of the Sierras, and have tried other RV parks in the region, and have always come away disappointed about the road noise, asphalt jungle type parks, and all the craziness tourism tends to bring. But now I have discovered Moss Landing KOA, a hidden gem, out of the fray, yet so close to all the main attractions. And it is now my go-to Monterey Bay spot. We stayed five nights here and it was a nice midway between Monterey and SantaCruze. We had space 8 . You are given a spot it can't be picked out. Park was very clean. Laundry facilities were available. They only had two bathrooms/showers available and they were occupied most of the time. There were a lot of children during our stay riding bikes. We were told the wifi was very poor when registering. Cable was great. There is no view of the water. Place was very safe! Would stay again if we needed too! read more

MOSS LANDING KOA... WORST RV RESORT EXPERIENCE OF OUR LIVES!!! DO NOT EVER CAMP HERE!!! We were evicted for another guest (whom we had just met) calling the manager "old" when they told us to be quiet at 9:30 ON A FRIDAY NIGHT!!!!! We had just met these folks and were enjoying ourselves when the managers decided we were too loud. We were settling down by 10 and completely quiet by 10:30 and they STILL called the police on us!!! When the police showed up they saw a quiet campsite and immediately left. Not a single other camper had an issue with us. In fact neighbors a few sites down wondered what the problem was. Got the eviction on our door this morning without a single word from management. When I tried to speak with them at the office this morning they would not listen to anything I had to say. What a low down, unprofessional management team this husband and wife are!! NEVER COME TO MOSS LANDING KOA!!!!! read more

We stay here often. The hosts are like family to us. The park is always clean. Larry keeps the rules enforced in the park which EVERYONE benefits from. There is a restaurant or bar nearby that has loud music on weekends NOT the park's fault. The beach is about a block away. We also attend a nearby church "Harbor Chapel" on Dolan Road when we stay here. read more

Love it! Clean & mostly level parking pads - some with grass; friendly staff and a nice little general store with free cookies (!) The bathrooms are immaculate but alas there are only two which can be problematic since the shower and the toilets are in the same room, so if someone is taking a shower, the toilet is not available. A camper in the space next to us waited outside the shower/toilet 15 minutes before she could get in (I waited until after 2pm and had the whole place to myself) but this isn't the fault of the rv park, it's the fault of inconsiderate people who take too long in the shower! My only complaint is that the water pressure in the shower is a little weak, but I had loads of hot water and like I said, the bathroom is immaculate. Saturday night there was a sing-a-along "Jim Jam" in the common picnic area and it was great to see and hear all the 50-60somethings singing the old Beatles, Steve Miller Band and Beach Boys songs - picture "Old Guys Rule" types riding Harleys (my husband was a celebrity in his tie-die attire). Most everyone had a dog and amazingly there weren't any little kids running around. The place is small and one side backs up to the parking lot of the Harbor which was a little noisy this time of the year because of the chartered fishing boats and tour groups coming and going all day. But it wasn't really a problem since the sea gulls and sea lions and buoy made enough noise to drown the people nosie out (in a good way). The power plant (Duke Energy) is quiet and the white smoke seen coming out of the chimneys is steam so is nothing to worry about. We walked to the Haute Enchilada for lunch and it was a very short walk to the beach after that. We didn't see much sunshine until the morning we were packing up but that's Moss Landing weather. Really nice, relaxing weekend, can't wait for our third time soon. read more

Quite and clean and cute spots. Super Pet friendly. Great little fire pit area and dog walking area. Stopped after buying Our first camper on the way back home. Called after the front office was closed, Larry accommodated us, and met us personally when we pulled in. and made us and our dog feel very welcome. Everyone who walked by smiled and said hi. I was pleasantly surprised by Moss Landing RV Park. They offer full hook-ups and electric. The spaces are on the smaller side and your are very close to your neighbors, however the property is very clean and in walking distance to the beach and restaurants. The staff are extremely helpful an friendly. We ended staying longer than had plan because of the great accommodations. We were lucky enough to be in town the same weekend as the artichoke festival-which was full of food, fun and entertainment. read more

Just stayed here at KOA Express Moss Landing! Love how small and clean it is! Staff Very Friendly! Also very helpful with questions about local restaurants. Concrete level slabs and very nice hookups! All have a patio table with benches. Since so small only has 2 Restrooms with showers and there can be a wait. But as rest of facility Very Clean and Well Maintained! Disappointed in WIFI and Cable TV! WIFI was Very Slow and Spotty and there are only about 10 cable channels. Definitely will need a Satellite to watch TV. Don't know if it's a good Park for kids as there really isn't anything for them to do but maybe ride bikes around RV Park! As a Retired person I enjoyed this RV Park as there are several Restaurants within walking distance. I will definitely return but not before I invest in a Satellite Dish to be able to watch TV! Worst RV Park cable I have had at any facility I have stayed! read more

Mark (the owner and his wife) were HORRIBLE. Do NOT stay here!!!!! We found out afterward this location is a franchise and not part of the normal Koas with amazing customer service. We came and set up our trailer along with another family (we both have two Children) got everything hooked up and a friend came and parked in front of our campsite to visit, mark came over practically harassed everyone at the campsite and said we should have reviewed the website about not having visitors... (the paperwork Showed visitors could come with a day pass) so we said ok. Our friends left and not 5 minutes later, mark came BACK!!! This time he had paperwork highlighted and circled hat we couldn't have a pop up tent over the picnic table for shade . So we said ok and took it down. We said we wouldn't be coming back(which is our choice) and we continued minding our business. He proceeded to say he would refund us, we said no it's fine we have our kids he and we have set up we will just stay. Not more than 5 minutes he came back with 2 receipts and said we had an hour to leave or he will call the cops because he didn't like our attitude and was literally shaking like a meth addict. So we started to pack up and planned to leave. Then, the Monterey county sheriffs office came and thankfully they were wonderful and apologized continuing that not all of Monterey county was like this. My husband is a firefighter and talked to the sheriff and apologized for even having to respond to such a ridiculous call wasting tax payer money . We told them we were leaving anyways and staying at another koa but we were so disappointed we were treated like heathens and so disrespectfully. I have NEVER in my adult life experienced this ANYWHERE. NOT EVEN DURING THE PANDEMIC. whatever you do -DO NOT STAY HERE at this franchise with mark and his wife!!!!!!!!!!!! Also** multiple guests were there as witnesses that no behavior got out of hand or escalated. We did everything we were asked to do. It was simply that the owners didn't want to deal with us. The owners are very odd and it worked out on our favor... We headed over 20 min and stayed at the Santa cruz one. Luckily we did that, and had a wonderful experience and tons of stuff for kids!! We've been at this campground several times. This is a wonderful little park between Santa Cruz and Monterey. The grounds are very well kept and the staff is friendly and professional. The beach is 5 min walk. I noticed people in some mentioning skunks. This has never been an issue here before. However, in the time of COVID many restaurants are shut down or doing much less volume. And based on what I've seen at other places, anywhere that still has human activity has more skunks turning up because they're are fewer options for them to scavenge. read more

Enjoyed our stay here! We stay here during Covid-19! Walking distance to yummy food, and the beach! We enjoyed our stay here! We camped with two kids 3 and 7! They could ride there bikes around the campground and it was small enough to keep and eye on them! Staff was friendly with whatever you needed! Easy check in! They would even help you back up if you needed in these right spots! Very clean spot! Down side for this place Spaces are very very tight. You literally are so close to your neighbor. We had spot 33 in not sure how the others spots lined up but we were so close, that when we walked out our front door there sewer connection is right there so that is pretty gross! The reason for 3 stars is because there are only 2 showers WITH the toilets in each one! DUMB! For the cost this park should have more than 2 showers and have the toilets SEPARATED from the showers! SO FRUSTRATED! Besides that annoyance it's a nice park and the staff is super friendly and it's a great location. read more
