    Bench in Spain
    Kimmberley B.

We were lucky enough to visit in February of 2025. 4 of us sat on the iconic bench inspired by the original in Barcelona Spain. We were able to stay at the Gaudi Hotel in Barcelona and recreate the original bench picture minus one. We all felt her presence in Barcelona. So I'd like to share the inspiration for our trip last week. The Venice Mosaic house had way more artwork than we experienced in Spain. So I suggest you save yourself some time & money and visit Mosaic Tile House in Venice CA for the true art exhibition experience.

Great way to spend a day immersed in art with living artists in residence! It took over 35 years to create this ever changing intricate, funny, profound, and life affirming house. From the charming owners to their lively young volunteers and assistants, it is a pleasure to discover all the details all over the house. Artists will appreciate access to the studios and seeing process unfold. I bought a piece to take home as a reminder to live with art everyday!

Don't sleep on this place! You can feel the love when you step into the front yard. It has a similar vibe to Watts Towers, but I prefer this place.

What a very special, beautiful place. The girl checking in at the gate was very sweet and kind. There was a woman doing the intro who provides a paper explaining the themes of the areas. Gonzalo was very quick to respond with emails and we had the pleasure of meeting him at his home. He showed us some of his moving pieces and chatted with us which was very sweet. Definitely a one of a kind experience!

We loved the mosaic tile house!! I have been twice and find new things to admire each time I've been. It is a home built with so much love, happiness, creativity and wonder. My parents and in laws loved it as well. My toddler was having the best day ever. We recommend it 100%.

Was closed when we stopped but was still able to see some cool views! Definitely a cool place to check out.

Love all these tiles scattered throughout the property

Nestled in the middle of a quiet Venice neighborhood, the Mosaic Tile House owned by Cheri Pann and Gonzalo Duran is a visual wonder.  Since 1994, the artists have been working on the house to make it what is today, a true feast for the eyes. You can visit on most Saturdays from 12pm-3pm with a reservation.   We spent a good hour touring around and inside the house this past weekend.  Our reservations were for noon and we were two of the first visitors for the day.  Ms Pann greeted us at the gate, checked us in, and then her assistant Shannon gave us an introduction to the property with background on the house and an information sheet.  Mr. Duran was on property, as well, manning the gift shop and also wandering around to greet visitors.  He even took a picture of us with my phone in a spot that I'm sure he takes of guests often; it's a very cool perspective.   As for the artistry of the house, there is so much to see!  Stained glass, coffee mugs, pots and pans, wine bottles, mirrors, and more are used to create the mosaic in and around the house.  I loved the homage to Alice in Wonderland as well as the Mexican kitchen in the house.  The tiles with funny sayings around the property by Mr. Duran are awesome.  Be sure you stop in the gift shop and purchase something for your own home; we got a tile for our kitchen. This is definitely a unique home and we loved our visit. I highly recommend visiting Venice to experience the artistry for yourselves.

Today was my first time visiting Cheri and Gonzalo's 28 year, and counting, labor of love and I'm glad I finally was able to see it up close. I have been driving by it for years so I was very pleased to learn they offer self guided tours of the grounds for $20. Cheri greeted us at the front gate and was very polite and informative. She gave us a rundown of the history of the property and specific things to look out for. It was also nice seeing their own works of art in the studios in the back of the house. It's definitely a unique location and worth the trip to see something that took so much time, effort, and love to create.

Didn't know what to expect when I saw this, but it was worth the visit. Amazing what they've done to this place. So vibrantly colorful! Absolutely loved the work of art, time and detail in each piece of tile and other objects used... Gonzalo responded very quick when I emailed regarding reservations. Cheri was there to answer any questions one may have! Definitely a must see art house!

Come check out the mosaic tile house in Venice, CA. You have to email them reservations but they email immediately. We emailed them 2 am the same day and they replied within 20 min. They ask you a time slot you would like to take from 12-3 pm only on Saturdays. I saw if it's 2 people and you don't have reservations then they let you in. The cost is $20. They took only Venmo, zelle or cash. This is a great date or family activity. There were so many photo spots, which they give you a guide. They have guides in Spanish and Chinese too. The couple, Cheri and Gonzalo started the mosaic tile house in March 1994 and are continuing to add on still to this day. They wanted to turn this ugly house into a pretty house. You can leave ceramic items in front of their house so they can add it to their collection. In the front yard, you can see a fortune cookie and love tub. There's also a giraffe and barefoot panda. Then, on the side of the house, is Alice in Wonderland and butterfly wings. Next, you get to see Cheri's & Gonzalo's studio. Lastly, inside the house, there is a gift shop. We got to meet both Cheri and Gonzalo's. They are super nice and friendly. Gonzalo's helped take photos. Expect to spend about a hr here. Even more as there is so much details in this house. They are also accepting volunteers. Make sure to tag on their social media.

The man himself, Gonzalo, is one of the artists and owns this beautiful house. The other artist is his Wife, Cheri.

This beautiful Mosaic Tile House is located in Venice, Los Angeles, CA. A reservation is a must to visit this house since it's only open to the public on Saturdays (it's better to check their website for the dates because some Saturdays are not available). The street parking is easy. I was there 10 minutes before they opened, and I parked in front of their house. The entrance fee is $20 and free for ages eight and below. They accept credit cards, but it's better to pay cash. During my visit, they have an issue with their machine, which can delay your entrance. The house owner is amiable and will allow you to take photos inside and outside their house. I even have pictures of both of them. It took us over an hour (1:10 minutes) to see their home and take photos. Overall, it's a fun experience visiting their house. I highly recommend visiting it.

You make reservations via e-mail and they are only open Saturdays from 12pm-3pm. For adults, admission is $20. Communication with Gonzalo and Sherri was a breeze and are accommodating with times and cancelations. You park on the street and are greeted by Gonzalo and Sherri themselves. Sadly, due to COVID-19, they do not allow guests to enter the house or visit their gift shop. You only roam the exterior of the property. It took about 20 minutes to explore the place. The way the tiles and Knick knacks are placed are very intriguing. I enjoyed taking the time to explore and appreciate their art. I really enjoyed my visit here, but I think $20 is a bit steep for admission. I think no more than $15 would be decent. I do recommend visiting this place because it truly is unique.

Nice place to visit, it's different than most places, $20 entrance, free street parking.

I do not believe there is an official post about whether it is dog friendly, but I would not recommend bringing a dog here because it is a very tight space due to all the amazing art.

I love the Echo Park Time Travel Mart and wanted to give their Mar Vista location a visit sometime while I'm on the west side. Their hours are pretty limited. Google and Yelp claim Friday to Sunday from 12:00-6:00pm, but buried on their own website it says 2:00-6:00pm on Tuesdays to Saturdays. Not sure which is more up to date. But I've gone out of my way on two separate occasions when the hours overlap, and both times they've been closed anyway. Their website does warn they're often closed during their hours and to call ahead, but I haven't gotten an answer. (I guess because they're usually closed?) So yeah, if you can catch them when they're open, great! But I wouldn't advise going out of your way for it unless you can call in advance and confirm they'll actually be open.

Then I saw it on my IG feed weeks later and all I could think was how content creators over-hype all these hidden gems in LA. I just notice that influencers put an exaggerated spin on spots like these to make them seem a lot bigger or crazier than they actually are for the sake of views. Not to say they aren't worth visiting, but I think the fun part about these kinda shops is discovering it for yourself or that element of surprise. I've just been severely disappointed by some places I've visited that didn't live up to the expectations set by content creators. It's not the businesses fault, but just how social media works these days. Anyways, it's a small shop that you'll probably get through in a few minutes, but definitely worth checking out. I'm so glad I so happened to stumble upon this place by surprise, and I hope that's how you find it too :)

I love standing in front of the candle selection, smelling my way through the new brands and smells - especially if it's been a minute since I've been there. Personally, I think they have the best candle selection on the west side. What I also love, is how fairly priced the candles are - they are sold at the price you find them online. I expected a mark-up but was really surprised to see there wasn't one. Their card selection is also the best. I can stand in front of that wall for a good half hour reading all of the cards and stocking up for upcoming birthdays, holidays and thank you's. Even when the card wall is looking a little empty there's still a bunch of great options that fit what you're looking for. The customer service has always been good - I recently went in to exchange a candle (within the 14 days) with a half printed receipt (the machine had run out of paper) and I didn't bring my wallet. The girl who helped me with my exchange was really nice and while it took a bit to locate my purchase from that day due to the situation she was super helpful and I was able to finish my exchange without having to come back. I no longer live in the area so I was really grateful to save an extra trip. I'm happy to see the store's phone number is on yelp. It wasn't originally when I was calling to ask about my exchange. I highly recommend this store for fun home things and cards!!! And for what it's worth - I love the kids shop next door. Everything I have purchased for friends with new babies or kid's birthdays has been a hit! It really is the cutest store full of things you won't find anywhere else.
