But that might be because we had to plan far in advance due to my friend's travel schedule. It is way out there in Tucker. But I always research where a place is before I buy a voucher. So no surprise there. You do have to pick up your piece later- so that is two trips out there. The class project was to make a mug. You don't get to make whatever you want. That's OK with me. They give you some time to play around with clay and practice the depth you need to use with the impressions. Even with the practice, I still didn't use the proper depth, unfortunately. But my piece came out ok. You get to choose from two different glaze colors- I wish there had been more. And the color I chose didn't turn out exactly as I had expected. The staff there was really nice. My friend and I both left something there. Me- my folder of vouchers. My friend- her water bottle and a ring. They held on to the lost items for us. Unfortunately, they didn't come across my friend's water bottle.

Unfortunately, when we booked his camp this year, we were notified 3 days later that I was being transferred for work to another state. When we asked for a refund, they told us there was a $60 processing fee that was non-refundable. In spite of being repeat customers, and funneling our son's friends to their camp as well, they would not budge on this, despite the short gap between the purchase and the request for a refund. You would think with how many camps there are in the Atlanta area, they'd work with us to maintain a good reputation in the community. This is a dishonest practice and we will discourage our friends in the area from using their services in the future.

My son went to Kids R Kids for a little over two years -- from the time he was a baby until he was 3 1/2. At first, everything seemed great. His teachers adored him, he loved going, and he had a little group of friends he grew up with as he moved from room to room. But things changed when he moved into his last classroom. Around this time, he was going through a lot -- a new teacher, a much larger class, starting potty training, and having to watch most of his close friends move on to another room right outside his own. It was a lot for a little boy to handle all at once. Instead of being given understanding and support, his struggles were treated like major behavior problems. We started getting constant phone calls about his "bad" behavior -- things like hitting or throwing chairs -- but when I spoke to his teacher, her version sounded much more like typical toddler behavior. Still, the administration's tone made me feel like I was failing as a mom and that my son was somehow broken. The final straw came when, after one especially hard day, they slid a brochure across the counter for an early intervention program for "special needs." I left in tears, feeling completely defeated. Out of desperation, I had a child psychologist observe him -- and she told us there was nothing wrong with our son. She even said it was wrong for the school to suggest such a program without us initiating it. It broke my heart to realize that instead of helping him through a tough transition, the administration had given up on him. We eventually withdrew him, and I'm so glad we did -- he's thriving now. I truly believe many of his teachers cared and did their best, but the administration completely failed us. They lacked the training, empathy, and communication needed to support my child when he needed it most. Our son deserved better. Every child does.

They really care about teaching to the child the way they learn best. The small class size allows for each kid to work at his own pace. My son was very excited to be able to start some algebra in the 5th grade. They get recess at local parks and lots of interesting field trips. Everyone there goes the extra mile to make sure the kids are getting what they need.

Each child is treated as an individual and learning programs can be tailored to each child's needs, as the class sizes are intentionally kept small. The kids spend plenty of time outside, where they can play and discover and interact with the world around them, instead of being cooped up inside all day. The teachers make learning exciting and collaborative, focusing on each child as an individual. My older son is flourishing at Kingfisher after a very difficult experience at a Montessori school. He is advanced in some areas and lacking in others, and Debbie and the teachers at Kingfisher have been wonderful about updating us about his progress and working with him and with us to ensure that he gets everything he needs, both academically and emotionally. My younger son is more typical and fits right in as well. Both of my children are happy and excited about getting up in the morning to go to school, and are allowed to be creative and share their enthusiasm for learning. We are completely happy with Kingfisher and will keep sending our children there for as long as we can.

I have been asked why I drive to Duluth for voice lessons. It is a bit ridiculous, I admit. The…read moretruth is that I knew I wanted to take lessons when I moved to Atlanta many months before moving to Atlanta. I can carry a tune just fine but my actual vocal muscles aren't that well trained, and I want to be able to sound nice singing solos, mainly in karaoke, but also for a cappella groups. So I used google, and Lisa was one of the few teachers with a website, and the only one who seemed a good fit for me. She teaches singing in "mixed voice," that is, sounding like you're in chest voice in high range, which is good for pop singing and solos in general. I have not been disappointed with the results so far - she uses exercises that may seem strange, and don't sound good themselves, but I've found that they work. The lessons are $40 for half an hour. You provide a blank CD at the start of each lesson, and she records it for you so you can practice with it during the week. Generally the first half of a lesson is exercises, and the second half you work on a song of your choice. But she is also extremely flexible, and will help you with whatever you want to practice. She helped me prepare for two a cappella auditions, and I made one of the groups - and now she can help me with music from that group if something's difficult. Last week I asked her to help me sing more comfortably in the very high ranges, and the CD of that lesson's exercises are a really really useful warmup for me. I also find her very likable as a person. She's young and pretty, on top of technology, has a sense of humor, and is honest without being harsh. She has definitely improved my confidence as well as my singing. I'm pretty sure Lisa teaches mainly if not exclusively women, and I think a lot of her students are kids. But I would definitely recommend her if it's possible for you to sneak up to Duluth once a week. Drop an e-mail to her if interested - she checks it fairly regularly and has been very good about getting back to me.

She has improved all around - techniques, vocal quality, breath control. Lisa could immediately tell what my daughters strengths and weaknesses were and tailored her lessons accordingly. Also, there is really no fooling around on lessons - Lisa gets right to it and makes the most of the time. Not only is Lisa a superb voice coach, she is a genuinely nice person. I would recommend her highly.
