But during the service, something felt off. The pastor kept pushing the idea of "planting a seed," and he tied it almost entirely to giving money to the church. He didn't acknowledge that planting seeds in Scripture can also mean serving, loving others, or growing spiritually. The message made it feel like if you weren't giving financially, you weren't planting seeds at all. At one point an older woman gave over $2,000, and instead of feeling inspiring, it felt like the pastor was emotionally pressuring the room. The whole moment had an almost staged quality, like he was trying to create dramatic emotion rather than letting anything genuine happen on its own. The atmosphere reminded me of those scenes in movies where the preacher is overly theatrical and everything feels a little too rehearsed. I still appreciate the kindness of the congregation and the sincerity of the man who baptized me, but the sermon itself didn't feel aligned with the gospel or with authentic faith.

Grateful for Pastor Brad who reflects Jesus so naturally. His leadership is 1 of the reasons the…read morechurch has grown so beautifully. I love how he stands by the entrance both at the beginning and at the end of the service, making time for people in such a personal way. Today after 12:15pm service, my father and I were waiting to greet him. I dreamed about him last night, so it felt important to at least shake his hand, introduce him to my dad who is visiting from out of country. Pastor Brad was in conversation with someone else, and because of his kindness and desire not to be rude, he continued to give them his full attention. My dad grew a little impatient, and we were about to leave, but just as we were walking away, Pastor Brad noticed us and called out with such warmth: "Hey!" He greeted us so genuinely, as though he had been aware of us the whole time. That moment carried such light, humility, & thoughtfulness- it reminded me of how Jesus notices people, even in the smallest details. It may seem simple, but it meant a lot to me and my father. Pastor Brad's example is a true reflection of Christ's heart. The worship here is my fav. It's powerful, uplifting, Spirit-filled. I've also been deeply blessed by the Freedom Group. Although I haven't quite found close community yet, I still love attending service because of the worship, the Word, and Pastor Brad's Christ-centered leadership. Such a great welcoming team and praise God for the parking team.

"Keep Austin Weird" sure brings some interesting images to mind when I think of this phrase and…read morefeel that Smut Putt Heaven Holiness Church is part of that. When I think of Smut Putt Heaven, I also think of the phrase "one man's junk is another man's treasure". If you are looking for something unique and out of the ordinary attraction in Austin, consider checking this out, along with Cathedral of Junk (a few miles away from here, but you have to make an appointment) and Casa Neverlandia (also need to make an appointment). Smut Putt Heaven Holiness Church was created by Scott Stevens back in May 28, 1995, 10 years from the last Alice Cooper concert that Scott went to. It started with Scott planting some cactus trimmings that he had gotten from a local nursery and decided to add some doll heads on poles in the little garden. It freaked out a friend of his and thought what if he had a lot more, how that would cause people to react, lol. Eventually this abstract artistic art inspired Scott to continue to add more things to his backyard that manifested into the photos that you see with my review today. Today, you will see even more doll heads and even mannequin heads on poles (according to Scott, he get those mannequin heads from a beauty school. After the heads hair gets too short, they are no longer usable to practice on), golf putters, etc, crutches and so forth in the backyard. There are also bottle caps hung from a large tree, 2 large eye balls that are supposed to be Alice Cooper's eye. Scott gets a lot of his items from other people that leave random things at his door step that they think he may want to use in his backyard. But he also may get some things from just whatever leftover junk he founds around the city. If he sees something that he thinks he could use in his backyard, he will pick it up (either right then and there and later that day he will come back and pick it up). My husband, our little girl dog and I were lucky enough to check out Smut Putt last Friday evening around 4 pm. We were in the area and were lucky to catch Scott when he was free when I gave him a call (yes tours are given by appointment only: 512- 444-1239). When we arrived, Scott met us right outside his house and walked us his backyard. Scott provided us with a history of how Smut Putt came about and answered all of our questions. And then he showed us the snake he made out of blue glass bottles in the front yard. Because my husband had his drone with us, we were able to take some photos from a bird's eye view, which really interested Scott. Our private tour lasted just about 30 minutes. I found it to be very interesting and I enjoyed talking to Scott about other similar type of interesting attractions that he has been too in the US and in Texas. Just so other random facts to share that I learned from Scott is that he changes his backyard art from time to time. Scott is an ordain minister but has never married anyone here at Smut Putt. He had said that this would be the place for that special couple that likes this type of art. And he also has 3 cats that are buried in his backyard (2 of them being his and 1 being of his late father). Please note that donations are accepted and appreciated. Smut Putt isn't exactly for everyone's taste but if you are into something like this, consider adding Smut Putt Heaven to your list of things to do when in Austin.
