This place has become my trusty companion. I have spent a lot of time here over the past few years, cramming for tests, researching for assignments, meeting with fellow classmates to work on a project together, blah blah blah. The MC Library is roomy, clean, and makes MY life easier. Yes they have books, and free internet access, and WiFi, and copying services, and mini conference rooms to meet with whomever for whatever. But what I really want to tell u about is the CAFE! =D The very cute "Common Grounds" cafe at the south end of the library offers any coffee drink imaginable. Plus milkshakes, tea, juices, milk, sandwiches, salads, cookies, muffins, and..... u get my drift. ;D

When we moved out in 1978 to the far NW suburbs, it was because my dad wanted to get out before the house was worth less then what they paid for it in 1960. Cicero has really hit the skids.

The education at this school is the equivalent if not worse than community college. I am a freshman…read moreNursing major who plays tennis so our program is one of the few that is a good investment for the school due to clinical connections as early as sophomore year, but as far as the price that students who dorm have to pay, it is extremely far from worth it. Community colleges where you can complete your prerequisites like College of Dupage, Triton, or Chicago colleges would have been more beneficial to save money. I was expecting more student involvement and local organizations and activities, but it has dimmed my personal campus life aside from playing a sport. This school places a big emphasis on sports recruitment and it is primarily the reason why I am here along with the Nursing program, but diversity, sense of community, and campus events are lacking innovation or a truer sense of university life. It is a Lutheran college with closeted beliefs so I feel like I am being put in a bubble. I am Catholic so spiritually it is not far off, but it is not what I intend to practice. I was initially going to attend UIC but because they seldom direct admit, I would have to do pre-requisites and reapply sophomore year. I am planning to transfer after the spring semester to local universities with better diversity, student organizations, and better prices (where it is worth taking out a loan). The only good majors at this school are Nursing, Music, Theology, or Education. The gen-eds are so easy they are comparable to high school courses.

A few teachers care about their students and some don't...... Good school to get your license because its straightforward with the process, but the the teachers and mainly the directer Jim are who make this school such a bad school. There were several times the school was unprofessional with their students. Lack of professionalism needs to be worked on. I remember one time Jim* the owner of the school spoke loudly to me telling him I hadn't paid the bill for the month. I was ok with him reminding me but very unprofessional he said that loudly in front of 30 other students and the whole class turning around hearing our conversation . Very unprofesional. The director constantly told me that I wasn't qualified to be a cosmetologist and that I should quit. IM attending this school to learn and am not looking for anyones approval whether I am qualified to be a cosmetologist or not. Seems like instead of encouraging students to improve them they try to put them down to get more money from them. He will try to make you feel pressured where you will make decisions where it will benefit him. There is also favoritism which I experienced while I attended this school. Teachers are only happy for you when you're done in this school because that's probably the last time they will see your face. I had many bad experiences at this school but I got my license. Cheap? yes. Will you learn much? Not really just the basics. Advice ignore whatever Jim tries to tell you whether you're not a good cosmetologist etcetera. I am not someone to judge someone else but while I attended this school I experienced very negative energy from the director. Hopefully Bell Mar Beauty College works on having a more positive and encouraging environment for students and can provide a better experience in the upcoming years.
