Run far, run fast! Do NOT let these people handle so much as a dirty tissue for you. Hiya McKenna was tasked with obtaining a USDA loan for my husband (in his name only). We needed a deposit in order to make the offer, so we got the money from a family friend of 30+ years so we could quickly make the offer and then paid him back with cash. We then needed about $1700 for closing, but the loan could not be processed until the money was in the bank. The money for the despoit could be gifted from a direct relative, so I wrote a check to my husband for the whole amount. It was then that Hiya decided to tell us the $1000 deposit was no good because it could not be 'sourced' and b/c it was not gifted from a family friend. Oh, and my check (which cleared) was also no good (even though I'm a direct relative) because I then had to prove where I got the money (even though I wasn't on the loan). The *best* part, though, was at the beginning of the process when Hiya asked if my husband paid rent for living with me in the house in my name. I told her he did not. A few days later, we had a lengthy discussion about how much I owe on my home b/c we were discussing a traditional mortgage rather than the USDA loan. A few weeks later, she emailed me to ask for me to prove to the bank that I own my house free and clear since my husband doesn't pay rent here. Ummmm, HELLO?! I'd already told her exactly what I owed, so how could I then prove a negative? Thanks to Hiya's incompetence, we lost the house, we lost our $1,000 deposit, and we were out nearly $1000 in fees to the home inspector, etc. Without an opinion, those are facts. a really disappointing experience at the time, but I thought it was behind me. I've just found out though that my escrow was completely miscalculated and that my mortgage will be going up over $100/month. note that this isn't from tax increases -- my insurance was completely left off calculations and a random credit with no source noted was applied to my escrow payments. I suppose there's an argument that I should have been better educated, that I should have asked better questions. that's why I'm giving these people two stars instead of one. my number one advice: go elsewhere. my number two advice: if you can't, make sure you know what every single number on your HUD means. ask a million questions. investigate your own liabilities, do some math, and if the figures aren't what you'd expect, ask more questions or RUN. read more
