Jim Seibert * Did not return calls or texts in a timely manner (to myself or my agent). * Did not keep me apprised of the status of things. * Doesn't listen - I'd tell him things and when he failed to factor it into his next step and I'd ask why, he'd say, "I didn't know that." * When he makes a mistake - and who doesn't - he took no responsibility for it. He would get defensive and list all the things he's done for me, including taking credit for my credit score going up. Excuse me, I didn't realize you were paying my bills! My agent, who's been a Realtor for 20 years, said she'd never dealt with anyone like that in her career. The icing on the cake was when she discovered (quite accidentally) that my loan had actually been suspended! Apparently Jim Seibert didn't think this was important information for my agent or me to know. Perhaps because it was their doing; I know it wasn't mine because I did everything they asked and I did it immediately. My closing required three extensions and I know it wasn't my doing. Finally, after we closed I started getting SPAM from Alpine. When I emailed Jim and asked to be removed from the mailing list, I received another defensive, arrogant response. At least I got a response, right?

Unfortunately, my recent experience with Van Patten Mortgage was, without question, one of the most disappointing experiences I have had in my career. I referred two clients to Van Patten Mortgage at roughly the same time because I wanted to give the company an opportunity to earn my future business. Unfortunately, both transactions were plagued by poor communication, miscommunication, and a lack of timely follow-up between the loan professionals and my clients. In both transactions, the appraisals were not completed in a timely manner, which resulted in both escrows needing to be extended by approximately 10 days. This created additional stress and financial consequences for my clients. In one transaction, the buyer requested that my client pay additional costs associated with the extension. In another, there was confusion right up until the closing table about the amount the buyer needed to bring to close. My client was given one figure and ultimately learned that the amount was different. Both clients expressed their frustration to me throughout the process, particularly regarding the lack of communication from their loan professionals. As the referring agent, I was left trying to manage issues that should have been handled by the lender. Ultimately, the experience created unnecessary stress for my clients, affected the transactions, and even resulted in me giving up a portion of my commission in an effort to help make one of my clients whole. I understand that unexpected issues can happen in real estate transactions. What concerns me most is the lack of communication and proactive problem-solving throughout these transactions. Based on these experiences, I would not personally use Van Patten Mortgage again or recommend them to my clients. When I refer my clients to a mortgage professional, I expect clear communication, accurate information, timely follow-through, and a smooth closing process. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here.
