Now, Birmingham... Let's talk Health. I have reviewed my Dentist and my Doctor, but there are a…read morehost of other places in Birmingham which are striving to keep us fighting fit. For my services which are not teeth related, I use the multiple places in Boots. Boots (as you will already know) is a chain pharmacy and beauty store - available in train stations, city centres and most places where you may need to grab a pack of paracetamol or some plasters. This boots, however, offers a whole host of other services you may need for a range of health needs. Upstairs are your beauty counters, hygiene products and gifts (the discount on gifts after christmas is particularly good - offering 50% - 70% off), but on the lower floor are it's other services. If you pop on the escalators and head downstairs you'll find an optician, an NHS walk-in, a doctors surgery, Birmingham Uni dentists and a sexual health clinic. With the doctors surgery and dentist, you will need an appointment. The optician will see walk-ins (depending on how busy they are) and the sexual health clinic and NHS centre are totally walk-in led. This, obviously, can lead to long waiting times - but if you desperately need a doctor and can't get an appointment at your local clinic, this place is a lifesaver (probably quite literally). As well as the various medical services I have mentioned, Boots offers a "stop smoking" clinic and other health led initiatives. When I first moved into Birmingham City Centre I had no idea where my local health services would be (I was dreading having to catch a bus out of town), so for all of those who work or live in the City - this place is your one stop shop for when you're feeling off or need some supplies.

There's also the more seasonal items. Currently there are sunglasses and lotions located towards the back of the store. It's never been overly busy when i've been there even at 5pm on a weekday which is perfect if you want to spend a bit more time browsing. The meal deal is a good price (£3.49 at last check) and it includes a sandwich/wrap, a drink and a snack (up to the value of £1.25 so go for the larger ones!). The service is always quick as there's never really a queue which is great if you're in a rush.

This Boots store is the largest in Clayton Square, it is opposite St John's Centre and a couple of…read moreminutes on foot away from Liverpool One and Liverpool Lime Street Station, it is a large store and is a good location within the city centre. The product range is good, they have a nice range of most products you'd expect to find in a Boots, including the Bulldog Skincare range which was the main purpose of my visit. There is an Opticians and Pharmacy area as you'd expect from a large Boots store. I did find the gift-sets to be a little poor, maybe that is because people of Liverpool seem to have raided the shelves as they are currently 50% off, but the selection is much better in Manchester, many big brands which are sold in the latter didn't seem to be sold here, but they did have some cool Twinings Tea gift-sets, which aren't sold in the former, however, they did seem to be damaged, ripped and one was even missing a tea-bag (thieves?) It's a large Boots store, the selection is pretty good, I do feel they should do more to maintain the quality of products, I get it isn't the store's fault to a full extent but they should be maintaining them and not selling products which have obviously been tampered with, prices were OK/competitive in the majority of areas. I do prefer my local Manchester - Market Street store as I find the selection to be slightly better, with more facilities overall, but this still is a good store in Liverpool. 4*

On the ground floor you have a large pharmacy area, cosmetics concessions, perfumes, toiletries, holiday items, food, and hair products. Upstairs has baby clothes and products, a large camera and film processing section and a wide range of electronics. The different products are organised into clearly marked sections and it is easy to find everything in store. If you are a bit lost the staff are more than happy to help you. There are often offers displayed for multibuys and the products are competitively priced. When I used to work in the city centre I bought my lunch at Boots for most of the week. They have an excellent value meal deal where you can buy sandwiches, wraps, salads or sushi, chocolate or crisps and a drink for about £3.50. The food is always of a good quality.

This chain of stores is pretty much like Boots selling all of your favourite bathroom type…read moretoiletries etc. But the best bit is that they seem to generally be cheaper than Boots and in some cases, the main supermarkets, but they still have the same wide ranges and varieties as you would normally find in Boots. For some reason batteries always seem to be really cheap in Superdrug. Never really understood why but I do tend to buy my batteries from here. Also chocolate and sweets are really cheap as well.

Their shops can be found normally in the middle of the high street and inside the shops items are sensibly organised so that lunch time shopping is done quickly. Superdrug stock the same sort of items as boot. You can find mens deodrants and shaving items as well as aftershave. For women they have lots of beauty products. I am not a women myself but from previous visits they seemed to have a good selection of womens things. They also sell food and drink which is also convient. I would go as far as to say that Superdrug is much cheaper then boots. They regularly have good offers on. They vary from buy 2 get one free to just plain old fashion savings. I find the staff very polite and efficient. They always seem to have the right number of people serving so that you are never queuing for long. This is a plus point for me as I hate wasting my lunch hour in a queue. I like Superdrug and given a choice out between Boots and Superdrug, I would choose Superdrug 99% of the time!

Superdrug is a brand which either has good or terrible stores based on past experiences from Manchester to London, Liverpool to Brighton and across England - but this store offers facilities I've never seen in a Superdrug store before including a salon for women, and a barbers for men - normally they just have a small area of the store for women's beauty as this is a health and beauty retailer as well as a pharmacy, but it catered for men in that department too, offering a dry cut for the low price of £14 which is pretty good for the city centre, I've paid a lot more than that back home in Manchester too! The beverage selection was also pretty large, sadly it didn't have any Lipton drinks (these seem to have been replaced with fuze tea in every branch) or Starbucks beverages (some stores have these) The store, in general, was pretty modern and had a good range of products. Service and the queuing process could have been better as well as ensuring every part of the store was modern and stood out, as if not it just appears to be a little mix and match. 4* - Really good facilities for a Superdrug store in a central location, despite its flaws it is probably my favourite Superdrug store.
