I should have known it was a red flag when they tried to charge me $120 for a panoramic xray for the consultation visit. Xrays are covered under my insurance, but they're saying "somehow it's not covered" and I said oh don't worry, I already have an xray I took a month prior from my actual dentist and sent them the X-rays via email so they had no choice but to accept and remove the xray charge. I have the BEST dental insurance and somehow my treatment plan quote went from $653 to $770 to take out two top impacted wisdom teeth with laughing gas. Katie notified me by phone of the price increase a day before my surgery which is super unprofessional. Why did you wait literally a day to tell me before my surgery when I scheduled this appointment two weeks in advance. They had my insurance information the whole time. Also, IV sedation is covered under my insurance. I called my insurance directly and they said yes it is 80% covered for impacted wisdom teeth, but when I called back to confront Katie, a soft spoken gentleman picked up the phone and told me since they were not taking three or more wisdom teeth out, it would not qualify for iv sedation. They never even provided a predetermination to my insurance to even see IV sedation would get rejected so they were entirely lazy on their part. They pushed for me to get nitrous oxide (laughing gas) which is $300 out of pocket since laughing gas is not covered under my insurance. My family are health care professionals themselves and they advised I do not move forward because the front office tactics seem predatory to get the most money out of you. I'm gonna follow my instincts because their office staff ruined this experience for me. Updating this review because they processed the claim for my consultation and they completely overcharged me and my insurance. I was only supposed to be $12 but they charged me $58. Please avoid this place at all costs. You have been warned!

I was immediately admitted into Long Beach Memorial. Such a scary experience all the way around - my first time in a hospital that wasn't planned. I was facing multiple surgeries. Dr. Blum was the only doctor to come into my room and explain to me what he was going to do to put my jaw back together. I never saw the other surgeons. One sent an assistant. But Dr. Blum was there to ease my fears and convince me it was no big deal. Really put my mind at rest for the first time in the hospital. The recovery wasn't as bad as I thought, having my jaw wired shut for five weeks. It was at times, uncomfortable, but temporary. In the meantime, I had follow ups and got to know his staff, all very nice and friendly. Special shout out to the office manager, Wendy. Such a help during the whole process, always warm greeting and helped me with all my questions. Office is clean and easy to get in and out of and parking is free! I'm doing much better. I look the same and I'm able to eat all the crap I want now. Almost 100% recovered. Hope I never have to see a maxillofacial surgeon again, but if I do, I'll gladly return to Dr. Blum's office.

I paid $250 for a CT scan, only to be given a CD that my endodontist couldn't even open. Now, I'm having to return for a new CD to give to a different oral surgeon (since I no longer trust this office and need a new referral anyway, even tho I was originally referred here to this oral surgeon). I was told my CD with the results of the scan would be ready at 1:30 pm. I arrived at 1:45 pm, but it wasn't ready. By 2:36 pm, I was told the CD didn't even have the image on it--likely the same issue from the start. When I asked about a refund, the staff argued that what I paid for was "the scan," not the CD. But as a patient, when you pay $250 for imaging, you should expect access to your records in a usable format. I never actually received what I paid for, and the lack of accountability and professionalism has been extremely frustrating. I stayed 10 minutes after they closed the clinic waiting for a resolution, didn't get my CD, didn't get offered a refund and not even a single apology. Just eye rolls and attitude.

True, the problem could be beyond the scope of what this office focuses on but the fact that recommendation included $6K worth of surgery that may or may not solve the pain and potentially bring additional side effects before focusing on other solutions seemed a bit greedy on their behalf. I would hope practices like these can recommend all other exhaustive options in a more heartfelt, caring manner then to say this is what we can only do especially when insurance can't cover much of their surgery.
